Holy Cow! I watched highlites from this tournament last night and I'm pretty sure the players and caddies out numbered the spectactors. How does an event like this survive financially?

I think they are trying to attract visitors to play the course and vacation there after watching the pro's play it. But is anybody watching?

Maybe this is one that Ernie should have gone to instead of changing his mind about the WGC.

Probably because it's new they are still attracking people and location too. Plus all top players in other event so must be hard.

The locals in the mayan cant afford to pay to watch.. those poor people there dont make any money.. .. This is purely an exposure/tourist attraction based event.

Just watched Brian gay tee off on 17th . He used a hybrid and beat the ground up like in the old days for a tee.Is this the norm for this type of club off the blocks or is this unusual. And what benefit if any is there

Somewhere in the future at the front porch somewhere in the USA....

'Grandpa once won a tournament on the Coca-Cola-Pepsi PGA World Tour in Mexico when you still needed a passport to get there. The circuit was simply called the PGA Tour long time ago.'

'How much money did you make, grandpa?'

'Roughly 900K'

'But Grandpa, you can only buy a carton of milk these days with 900K. You were really screwed huh? Anyhow, did you beat President Tiger Woods?'

'No'

'Did you beat The Legend Lefty Mickelson?'

'No'

'What about the Head of UN, the honorable Els?'

'No'

'Then who did you beat?'

'Well, grandpa beat matt Kuchar and grandpa beat Michelle Wie once in this island called Hawaii. You know, it used to be part of America until we sold it to the Chinese'

'Michelle Who?'

'Never mind, just drop it..Let's go get ready for the Rolling Stone concert. I don't want to miss Keith's opening riff'.

Laura Davies on the LPGA does the same thing.
