Should also have the updated sims as opposed to the old ones at the Oakville store that are crooked. Hopefully they tried to do a little sound proofing in them as well for all the people that don't hit the square drivers, just tooooooooo dam loud in there!

They will probably have some real "people pleaser" deals, to keep you coming back. I will be there.

I am sorry guys. I don't know what's the fascination of a new Golftown opening up. I mean, it the same kinda stuff in there. To be honest, right now when I walk into golf town, the most I might buy is a pair of shoes.
Maybe I've tilted away from highly manufactured clubs from OEMs. Custom is the way to go. Sales from Golftown are neither aggressive nor knowledgable. Some don't know much about golf period.
If you would like a set of irons or clubs from OEMS like Taylormade, just book an appointment to their national fitting center.

If you need new shoes or need to stock up on balls then a GO is a good place to be. If they have a decent door crasher than that would be of interest as well. I think most of us on this board know what we are looking for and if we can save a couple of $$ on the way then that leaves more room in the tickle trunk for green fees.
The add is now up on their website... nothing to really write home about

Too each his own.
Golf Town is a great social club! Get to know your Golf Town, thats my motto.
Great people, great store, great service, and I disagree most of the staff are sufficiently knowledgeable.
For me Golf Town is like nothing else.

I agree. I have found the vast majority of GT staff to be very knowledgeable and friendly.
(Except today, when I went in looking for the new Golflogix GPS-8 and no one knew what the @#*& I was talking about.)

Lol! Year, they were exceedingly courteous. The sales guy asked the manager, who immediately called head office. They couldn't get an answer right away from the buyers, so they took my name/number. I got a callback by the end of the business day.
I'll share my story about Telus another day - the diametric opposite example of customer service.

Got to know a couple of sales managers at one and are quite friendly pop in once in a while they tape a couple of new clubs a let me in the simulator not a big WOW but they did not have to give me that attention even though i know that , that is a sales thing but these guys many times that i go there usually give me 10-20% off the price of merchandise and i usually bring them coffee not to bad of a trade but yeah i also say get to know staff, not a bad thing i overheard one of the staff members inviting a customer to tournament all payed so yeah i'll say that it has it's perks to walk in once in a while say a quick hello bring them a coffee especially a dry time during the day they appreciate the visit they say the day goes by faster for them. :thumbs_up :thumbs_up for Golftown!!!

Checked it out about half an hour ago. Not much to see, didn't see any spectacular deals. Just another GT, really.... but at least it's only 5 mins away from me, as opposed to half an hour to the other nearest one. Just happy to have one in Etobicoke FINALLY! It's definitely been a long time coming.:p

I was just there, I was going to get the 07 Nike Sasquatch square head for $175, but I ended up getting the Cleveand Hibore for $200, and I hit that thing stright and 300 yards much better then the Sasquatch, the sales are only for today, and the cleveland driver was not in the flyer but is on sale

I was there at 9:15 am. Said hi to the Cleveland Rep who is an acquaintance of mine. Almost pulled the trigger on a 53* Scratch wedge...on sale from $169 down to $129. Don't really know what I was waiting for...bought a shirt instead and got outta there without much damage.

If you would like a set of irons or clubs from OEMS like Taylormade, just book an appointment to their national fitting center.
... and the OEM will refer you to a preferred dealer to place your order. OEMS don't sell direct from their fitting centres. :nono:

Like many said not exactly boxing day of sales. On other hand I saw more than I expected. I have been into other GT's lately and noticed quite a bit more on sale in the aisles as you walked around.
I actually thought it was decent. I noticed a nickent square driver that I have heard good things about and it was only $125. Anytime you can get a name brand new driver with a v2 shaft for just over a hundred that is good.
As expected the place was flooded with staff. More of them than customers. Every time I even touched a piece of equipment, even if I hated it, someone popped up saying "tape it up and hit it?". I learned not to touch stuff and bark.
However one girl was persistant and instead of saying no I tried a couple drivers. My swing needs help, I am a big guy but they all go short. I hit about 225-250 in real life and in sims was only 200 yards. I am very straight with all of them, but not long.
Only one club stood out, and it was not my preferred brand. It was the ping G10. Every other driver (TM , cally ft5 / hyper x/ nike sumo) that I tried went 197-201, but the g10 with a v2 shaft instantly jumped to 225-228. A significant gain.
Stock was the latest and greatest be it equip, clothing and colors, the shoes, so a bit of a leg up on other locations that might be missing a bit. Looks like they made sure the new store had all the latest available.
The pro there seemed nice too. They were not crazy busy so the salesperson had time with pro to record some launch monitor specs with the two best clubs before reaching a final conclusion. I have hit in sim before but not with a launch monitor. I was suprised how most drivers had so much backspin my ball ballooned just like in real life, except for the ping that was long and had some actually runout.
Check it out. Not a big store but it is a nice location. No more treks to mississauga or woodbridge.

My gawd, they were all over me like white on rice. Got there at 8:00 sharp, already at least 30 customers in the place, but what seemed like 100 staff. It got really annoying when I had two guys explaining the fundamentals of putters and putting to me within 3 minutes of each other, as if I'd just come from another planet. Good for you, you memorized the training manual, now buzz off and let me browse.
Specials were not that special at all, most of which are available at all the other stores.

sorry.....once you hit 40 the fine motor skills go and you start wandering with your line of thought. Thats why it starts as a New GT opening review, veers off into a driver review, then screeches back around into the GT again.

Don't bite. This is for the old model, which is being replaced by the GPS-8 (the $299 model on the Golflogix site). You can get the old model for ~$190 from Amazon.com

I was there from 745pm 'til about 830pm, service wasn't as over-the-top as others have said (I guess it was a long day, and prolly too many 'Suits' around all day!!!)....as for "Grand Opening Deals", not too much that I don't think are close to what they'll normally be...remember, they're clearing out a lot of 2007 product, as we move into Spring 2008....
but, whoa, was it just me, or is this location MORE about CLOTHING or what!!??:(
At least the store set-up is better, irons easier to see, etc., and the cash counters are a little better (bigger) than other stores.
Shoe section & Bags sections seemed alot smaller, but the Sims were better, tho' waaaaay off!!! :$

I agree with those that say there was nothing spectaular. They had Nike golf shoes on sale for $29.99 but they were like bricks.
As previous mentioned, if you even looked at a club a sales associate was on you like a fat kid on a smartie.
Biggest selection of clubs I've ever seen in one place though.
Would have to say that the entire "Grand Opening Experience" was a disappointment.

Yes, especially on the inner racks, where other locations are sparse!
...at least they're there, and a Future Shop next door and a Timmy's Drive Thru....Very "GUY-friendly" shopping experience....and IKEA is around the corner for Da Ladies!!! :)

We got there around 3pm and the place was busy with plenty guys gawking.
A sales rep said to us "I'm here till 5,you might as well make me look busy."lol
SD balatas were the only ball I saw on sale. Wilson drivers for $98 were a bargoon since they came with the Proforce V2 shaft($78)
Ping G2-G5 and TM425 were another bargain for around $200
