Now is the number one time of the year for leaky basements. The number one cause is plugged eavestroughs. With the big meltdown and the rains this week, your foundation can't hold all the water if it's not flowing down the downspouts. Clean them out asap or spend most of your 2008 golf budget on foundation repairs.

being an insurance adjuster, I actually encourage all to ignore this thread, as that will mean more golf for me!:D

also remember that home depot rents a Sewer Snake so if water comes up from your floor drain you will save a bundle by renting one.

Just remember not to stick that snake in a old basement drain. It will not survive, and you will wish you had never done it yourself. The camera is worth the $200.

It also helps with Dave's tip if you eaves are draining at least 5 - 6 feet from the foundation wall.

I love being a home owner but the effort and expense of home maintenance makes me think maybe life is better in a condo.

I put a one way valve into the floor drain. Hope it holds!
