If the Senators lose against the Canadians tonight, the Bruins beat the Devils tommorrow night and the Flyers beat the Penguins tommorrow night, the Senators will be in ninth place? Unbelievable.
The leafs may not be in the playoffs. Most analysts called this from the beginning of the season. With the Leafs talent it was to be expected, evfen though most of us leaf fans denied the reality until the end. But the Sens with their talent pool have lived up to the name that they deserve. "CHOKE".

My vote is to lock this up.Different topic, really -- the other thread is about the Sens record-setting start. There's no reason why there can't be more than one thread about the Sens, in my opinion. Sens fans persuaded me of that last fall when they were posting Sens threads everytime a thought occurred to them.
I think this is legitimate, personally. Rather than dragging out a lengthy and antiquated thread, a new thread to talk about the short strokes leading up to the end of the season.
Personally, as I have said, I believe the Sens will make the playoffs and I still think they could smarten up in time to make a run, or at least get past the first round.
If they DON'T make it, I think Sens, Leafs, and Habs fans will all agree that the Sens will have re-earned the "Chokedogs" nickname that many felt they shed last year by making it to the finals.
Should be a fun few days, either way.

Let Terry have his fun for now, he really has nothing better to do!
I beleive that this is the way it as to go, the Sens need 3 points in the last for games if the Caps win their last 3 games.
But there are so many possibilities right now to really know the outcome in the east.

Alot of Sens fans have been saying there is a possibility of ottawa missing the playoffs for a while. But I never really beleived it was a possibility. I'm looking at the standings now and it seems like its a strong possibility.
It looks like both the flyers and the bruins could hop right over the Sens. The flyers have what looks like a tough ending schedule so its possible that they wont do it. One of the games is against the bruins.
The Senators finish up with the the Canadians, the Leafs then the Bruins. The way they've been playing (especially Alfredsons lacklustre performance) its very possible that the Sens could lose all these games. I beleive that out of the Canadians and Leafs they will probably take one and the way the bruins have been playing probably not win that one.
Last we have the Capitals with probably the easiest schedule finishing against the Hurricanes, Lightening and Panthers. I would much rather see Ovechkin in the playoffs than anyone on the Senators.
My vote is to lock this up.
Well sure your vote is to lock it up. Duh! Your a Sens fan.

The way I see Alfredson skating out there I really think he's thinking of the fun he can have with Sundin on the links.

I actually think the sens have a better chance in these playoffs...why? Let me explain (by the way I hate them, this is just analysis)
They had good seasons and entered previous playoffs with big expectations.
Bad results
They enter this post season with low expectations because they took off like rocket fire in beginning and now are crashing and burning. They have enough talent to be a sleeper.
(I personally though am hopeful that I am proven wrong as I hate the team with a passion....or better yet...prove I am right that they will play strong until the stanley cup finalls, 7th game....triple overtime....only to have alfredson score on his own net......yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!)

Unfortunately it's not just him, team defence has been abosultley BRUTAL!
If they don't smarten up they don't deserve to make the playoffs.

For sure its more than him. I was referring to a particular highlight in the last game where he just quit skating which resulted in a goal. Totally unlike Alfredson.

I disagree. How does a team like Ottawa, who demonstrated they were the best team in the league at the beginning sink to the depths that they have.
I like to kid about hating the Sens (mainly to bug a few Sens fans here) but I really don't hate them, except when they are playing the leafs. I realize they have a great team and this is why I started this thread. The fact that we are even talking about the possiblilty of the Sens missing the playoffs is incredulous.
I think that the Sens will have a very hard time with their confidence level in the playoffs to go beyond the first round. I could agree with your analysis if they even showed some promise in the past few games. They are showing no signs of putting it together in time for the playoffs. I don't think that they are going to step on the ice for the first game in the first round and all of a sudden turn it around. But then with the talent they have I could be wrong. With the talent they have they shouldn't be looking at a mathematical chance of missing the playoffs.

Yes it is !!! Since we have another thread going here are my previous comments..........
They might need more than just One win........................
From Monday's Ottawa Sun:
http://www.ottawasun.com/Sports/Sena...48691-sun.html (http://www.ottawasun.com/Sports/Senators/2008/03/31/5148691-sun.html)
"If the Senators don't earn three points in their final three regular-season games and the Capitals win all three of theirs, there is a chance Ottawa could miss the playoffs." (Ottawa Sun)
Reason being if Ottawa only wins (1) game and Washington all (3) games, then both teams will finished tied with 94 points. Washington could get the final playoff spot as they beat Ottawa in the head-to-head regular season games...........:( :$ :help: :hush:
They would have to go through the following Tie Breaking Procedure:
Tie Breaking Procedure (NHL.com)
If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:
1. The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
2. The greater number of games won.
3. The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.
4. The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season.
It's on Sportsnet East if you get that channel.
I am leaving for the game in a few minutes.........In a great Box Suite tonight.................I will give you a wrapup when I get back...................

Nope, they'd be in eighth. For the Sens to end up in 9th, they need to be caught by the Caps or the Canes. The Caps have to win two of three, and have the Sens lose all three in regulation, or win all three and have the Sens gain no more than 2 points from their last 3.
All that assumes that the Caps don't catch the Canes, who are also behind the Sens on points (but ahead in the standings by virtue of their division lead) and would need at least two more to knock the Sens out.

Well just got back from the game tonight.
Sens were totally dominated by the Habs. The fairly even shots on goal (Montreal 32, Ottawa 27) was not reflective of the shot quality. Montreal power play passed at will around the helpless Sens. :( :$ :(
Actually thought I was in Montreal watching the game as there were so many Habs sweaters. Seemed like half the attendance were cheering for Montreal. Have to remember many made the trip down from Montreal, but there are many longtime Montreal fans across the bridge from Ottawa in Gatineau, Quebec. Lots of Ole.....Ole......Ole.......cheering.............
Here is the Ottawa Sun game recap.
http://www.ottawasun.com/Sports/Senators/2008/04/01/5166821.html
So the Leafs can help shove the dagger deeper on Thursday night.
After the performance in the last two games its going to be very tough to get 3 points in the last two games..............:(

The funny thing is, a year ago, and in the fall, it was Sens fans starting threads about how great their team was and how much the Leafs sucked, and when Leafs fans complained, Sens fans said, "I didn't know this was a Leafs-only board. If you don't like it, don't read the thread."

If you look at the Capitals remaining schedule the 2 teams that they are playing (Panthers, Lightning) and the fact that those 2 teams will have hard games the night before they play the capitals, the likelihood that Washington will win their remaining games is very good. Between the remaining games that Ottawa has (leafs and bruins) they have a good chance of getting 2 points. But, if the capitals win their remaining games, that isn't enough is it. Of course the flyers have to do something to, don't they? Last year the leafs were creating exciting end of season regular season hockey with their bid to make the playoffs. Who would have thought that this year the Sens would be doing the same thing. Although, still the Sens have a much better chance than the leafs of last year, that chance is slowly eroding with each game they let slip away.

As much as I despise the Sens (from a competitive standpoint :D), I'd still like to see another Canadian team with loads of talent in the playoffs.
Anyone see that goal by Ovechkin last night, through the legs? This guy is the complete package in a hockey player.....more complete than Crosby if you ask me.

As hard as it is to admit this, I am a Sen's fan, been one from the start. They down right stink right now, and have for most of the season. People are saying this team is choking. Thats a little crazy, since they have been sub .500 since November. Not really a choke when you have been below .500 for 75% of the year. If it weren't for the amazing (now I think fluke) start, they'd be below the leafs in the standings, and I might consider ending my life :). Truth is they don't deserve to be in the playoffs right now. I'd much rather see teams like Washington and Buffalo, who are battling hard and playing good hockey, get in and provide some entertainment once the postseason begins. I'm not jumping off my team's badwagon or anything, I'd just rather see good playoff hockey between two teams who are flying high, not my team that has been in the dumper for the last 6 months.

You can see how the Pens have suffered without Crosby can you imagine what would happen to Washington if you removed Ovechkin come on there is no comparison. Ovechkin is hockey, he is amazing, his energy is worth more than Crosby. Now compare Malkin and then maybe you got yourself a close comparison.:hyper:

IMHO, comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges. Ovechkin is incredible, I totally agree. Very European style, incredible hands, amazing speed and top shelf acceleration.
Crosby, on the other hand, sees the ice better (makes him a better passer than Ovechkin), and has more power (watch him in the corners). Quick player, but I don't think he accelerates as fast as Ovechkin.
That's just my take. Frankly, I'm glad we'll have both of them to watch for years to come.

"About 200 rabid Senators fans traveled to Bert's Bar in Barbados to take in last night's game against the Montreal Canadiens with Ottawa team owner Eugene Melnyk (pictured with Bert's co-owner Bert Inniss). Winners of a team promotion, they'll also watch Thursday's match-up with the Toronto Maple Leafs from the same spot. With his squad sinking fast in the standings and in jeopardy of missing the playoffs, Melnyk urged supporters to keep the faith. 'We have a dream, and let's not forget we have the best team in the league,' he told them. 'We're going to show it.' "
