I received the same letter. Did you see your current useage by month included within the letter? If it's correct, I'll be fine. With a 15 & 18 year old, I'm barely pushin' those bars!
But, how can you actually verify what your using? When the bill arrives? How do you disprove useage?????
Well, I suppose Mr Rogers has to feed his children too,... I suppose.:help:

They actually always had a limit. If you were using to much bandwidth for to long or whatever the proper technical term is, they would slow you down to a 'snails crawl' I knew a guy who used to get threatened with lawsuits or so he told me. Of course he starting stealing bandwidth too.

That bandwidth is extensive to begin with and very difficult to go over 60, unless your constantly downloading videos and music, day in and day out.
You can go online to my Rogers and it shows your monthly data usage, even broken down by days.
Apparently ,The net is congested and unless hardware can be upgraded in the next year or two its the only way to slow it down is to charge for people who go over the limit. I dont buy into that explanation and see it as another cash grab from the greed mongering telecommunication companies.

Not totally true, I frequently go over 60gigs, and they only slowed me down ONCE about 3 years ago.

Yes, absolutely. What's the sense in advertising "Unlimited", then they change it...for all the people like ME who use more than 60gigs (fwiw, I will be changing to Extreme, so it goes up to 95gigs), there are MORE people that use 5-10gigs a month....this is simply a CASH GOUGE/GRAB in my books!!!

Yes i got the same letter, if you look up this web address it will give you a complete detail of what is covered under the 60GB, if you reach 75% of your usage you get a warning banner, and when you reach your limit you again will recieve a warning and an email sent to you. According to the specs i don't think anyone should have a problem, when i called the technical support rep told me that 2% of the rogers internet clients use more then there limit. Here is the web address www.rogers.com/keepingpace (http://www.rogers.com/keepingpace)

Once you are at web site go to usage notifications scroll to the top and click on what is a gig? It will further answer any of your questions.

Here's how your online behaviour adds up.

We (like pretty much everyone else) measure usage in gigabytes.
A gigabyte is approximately 1,000 megabytes (http://www.hispeed.rogers.com/bband/content/keepingpace/howbigisagig.html#). In short, a lot of information.

Can't get your head around it? Think of it this way.

Each of these activities represents just one gigabyte of usage (http://www.hispeed.rogers.com/bband/content/keepingpace/howbigisagig.html#):

View 26,000 Web pages OR
Send 105,000 e-mails OR
Attach over 2,000 Microsoft Word documents (of about 10 pages each) OR
Receive up to 1,000 digital photos OR
Download more than 200 songs OR
Stream 18 hours of music from the Web OR
Download 1.5 movies (or 2/3 of a movie in high definition (http://www.hispeed.rogers.com/bband/content/keepingpace/howbigisagig.html#)) OR
Play games online for 240 hours (or 10 days)
Rogers has the Internet service to match your needs. Compare the speed and usage allowances of our various services:

Actually the least amount under the ultra lite is 500 songs so if this is the service you have then you are ok.

Well I know I'm going from extreme to express. Express used to be 5 gigs and the time difference I won't notice because I never even got close to 10mbps on downloads. The savings will pay for a round of golf. Thanks Rogers for the letter

Some of you already know my dislike of Rogers so I won't go into that but the problem with Roger's highspeed is that they seldom achieve the speed they advertise. The problem is even more apparent during "peak hours" which is usually the time you would use the Internet (except BigShooter of course).

I have the extreme and I must say.. for practically everything I do, I never hit the speeds that I'm suppose to hit.

However, when i'm downloading from certain sites, I constantly hit 1200KB/s so files come down extremely fast.

But 99% of the sites don't even come close.

Maybe you see it when you download multiple things at once.

FWIW... for the ultra lite and lite services, I think the usage limitations are only for new customers as of this particular service change. Any new subscribers will have to deal with the new (lower) usage limitations. I believe the old limit was 60GB, as someone mentioned already.

I wish I could find the article from a couple months ago... but I know this is a common occurance for all ISP's. Based on my recollection, there were some tests that indicated that Rogers was able to target 70%'ish of the suggested speed, while Shaw was in the 50% mark and Bell was under 40%. Don't quote me on it, but it's definately frustrating!

Maybe it depends on the time of day. It has happened to me atleast 3 times in the past 6 months or so.
