Maybe if FIGJAM showed us who he really is, through interviews and TV Appearances, he would be more likeably. The only time you get to see the real Phil Mickelson is when he chokes coming down the stretch.

I love Phil. I think he's a great guy and a great golfer, and a class act from start to finish. He's awesome. If I wasn't already older than him, I'd want to grow up to be just like him.

Phil Mickelson is a phoney. Heard this from many people who work on the PGA tour. He's a very media-savvy fellow. But that isn't the point of this thread. Just because a player is losing or faring poorly this week, doesn't mean he sucks. We have to admit that some players just aren't clicking on all cylinders this week. It rarely happens that a player wins week in week out. Even the best golfer of all time - TIger Woods - doesn't win each week. He does seem to be near the top regulary, but even he falters sometimes... But hey he is the GREATEST to play the game... :D
I expect Phil to be ready to win the green jacket... He has established a great connection wtih Butch Harmon - things are looking very good.

I think this is a bit of a ridiculous thread. The fact that you "hate Phil Mickelson" because of the fact that he "can't compete with the field at the Shell Houston" is a pretty mindless comment. How can you say he's a phoney? A phoney how? That he acts nice in front of the cameras but secretly is a gutless child abuser in his free time? I wouldn't say he's a phoney in that he acts and talks like he's an incredible golfer but doesn't content all that much...he's #2 in the world. You have absolutely no right to say anything negative about him seeing as you, or any of us on here know him.
To be honest I don't feel the need to defend him seeing as I'm not obsessive about him or anything, I just see that comment as colloquial, needless, and just plain dumb.
Don't take it wrong...I'm not trying to start an arguement or anything...it's just my 2 cents.

I have a source that tells me its hard for him to find people to play practice rounds with.Who's your source? For the record, anytime someone on the internet says "I have a source", people roll their eyes and say "sure", because generally the "I have a source" people are making up that source.
But I have a source says otherwise. My source is Fred Couples, who plays practice rounds with Phil and has said publicly that they are good friends and often play practice rounds together. I think Chris DiMarco often plays pratice rounds with Phil, too.
Phil's the best. If I had a son, I'd name him "Phil the Thrill" and tell him to model his life after Phil Mickelson -- hard worker, good family man, generous, classy. I don't have a son, though, so I'm just going to recommend to others that they tell their kids to pattern themselves after Phil.

I completely agree. Dumb thread. Why are people more concerned with who they don't like then with who they do like? Does it make us feel superior to talk trash about sports stars that we will never have a chance to be as good as?It is a dumb thread, you're right. People love to say "Phil is phoney" ... but they can't REALLY back it up. They just don't like him, so they claim he's a phoney.
I don't care if he's a phoney or not. I don't know him personally, neither does anyone here. Unless we think he beats his wife or tortures his children, who gives a damn if he's rude or arrogant in private? (Not that he is -- that's just the sort of thing people like to say.) We don't know him "in private". We know the public figure, and that public figure is classy, respectful, generous, and a good family man.
So what do you recomend, we talk about public golf courses and used 9-Irons on here? Have some balls, start a thread of you own. He has started many threads of his own. What point are you trying to make? Should he start threads saying "I don't like this player?" He may not have that much time on his hands.
Because you think its a "dumb thread" doesn't mean everyone thinks the same way.
He didn't say they did. But some do. He does, so do I, so does the other poster, and we've said so. Shouldn't we be allowed to say so? In your own words ... I thought this was a forum.

Hey Longball, Phil has 2 Masters titles and a PGA title, has shot 59, won his majors with Tiger in the field. Do you hate him because he's fake? Who cares if he's fake, I watch becasue he's a great golfer that makes tons of birdies. Oh and this "jerk" has paid for 3 teenagers college educations, is known as the best tipper on tour ( and Tiger is the worst) and gave away Superbowl tickets!! Do you honestly think he cares about the Houston Open? Maybe a little, but he's already in Augusta in his head.

I find it a little more interesting to hear from people about who they like and why. If you're going to start a negative thread about a golfer then at least supply some fresh information instead of regurgitating the same old crap thats been said a million times before. I think the 2 most boring mindless statements made on this site is #1 "I hate Phil" and the #2"Leafs suck", #2 is true and takes the clueless without anything better to say to state the obvious an #1 could be true or untrue and is usually stated by the ignorant that really have no idea what Phil is like. Don't believe everything you hear in the media. There are those that simply want to hate someone for the sake of hate.

To some it wouldn't matter what Phil did. If he was a cheapo tipper they'd hate him for that. If he tips heavy, he's just doing it for the camera/media and is a phoney. When someone hates you for whatever reason or no reason, you can't win.

Nope. I think it was actually quite generous to call you a "hack." Unoriginal hack would be more accurate. Sure, there are lots of threads bashing Phil, for the same, unsubstantiated crap you're spouting here. You could have just added to those, but nope, you thought it was an original idea to cut up Phil.
Have you met him for more than a few seconds? Did he sleep with your wife, or your dog perhaps? Is that why you "hate" him? Because professing to hate someone you don't even know from Jack is pretty vile behavior. . .
No facts to back up any of the claims you're making, and many of the points you've made here have been refuted by others.

No you didn't explicitly say anything !!!
But what you did no by entering a discussion someone who dislikes Phil was to argue that the other person "couldn't know" anything about Phil's personality, character, etc. But what you did do is make an IMPLICIT argument for Phil. You came to Phil's defence.
Let me quote your first post -
