how come in Golf fans/pundits etc... scoff at a player ranked 300th meanwhile best MLB,NFL,NBA or NHLer would seem to get more respect? Let alone being ranked 300th in the world at a normal profession or 300th richest person in the world.
Anyone get that feeling when hearing about a golfer ranked say Top 500 or better in the entire world? What am I missing?

The 300th-ranked golfer in the world is Lee Janzen.
Who's the 300th-ranked MLB player? (Just picking one sport.) I don't even know -- there is no ranking. They're likely riding the pines, though. But they get more attention than a Lee Janzen these days because they actually get meaningful at bats every now and then.
I'm not sure, though. You're going to have to establish who the 300th-ranked football/baseball/etc. player is and then demonstrate what you mean by "respect."

Well, I was under the impresion Jason Wagner was ranked around 300th. Alot of golf fans and writers/bloggers scuffed at being boring adn not a great player or who cares etc.. Even Zach Johnson. I felt ashamed reading th eoutcry here.
Regarding the other sports, say football, there are large rosters and 22 starters atleast (not incluing kickers, special team specialists...)
Say for ranking, the NBA could probably come up with a combunation of stats/starts etc... that could help determine players ranking though they already have best rebounder/scorer/assists etc... I would think pro management have somehting that resembles rankings. Like how they rank yearly draft picks.

I know its not easy to compare to team sports but maybe something like that. But does he get treated poorly in the press or by fans when he scores a goal to win a game in overtime lets say? I realize not the same but.

A friend of mine rank more or less inside top 100 in world curling ranking. He had beaten a lot of national curling teams in the last few years, and could potentially represent 99% of the countries in Olympics or world curling championship should he be willing to change his citizenship, but he is not exactly out there enjoying being one of the top curlers in the world. Instead he is here working in the same office as me....

Maybe the sport will be big enough to support the lifestyle your friend would like one day.
