Four-time Masters champion, 64-time PGA Tour winner and world No. 1 Tiger Woods will again skip the Wednesday Par-3 contest, he said in his pre-tournament press conference on Tuesday.
"It's changed over the years," Woods said. "It's a little bit distracting to [play the Par 3 and] try to get ready for the tournament."
Woods said Augusta was playing a little softer and slower than he's used to. Asked whether he envisions another player laying up on all the par-5s and winning, as Johnson did last year, Woods said, "It could happen this year. As wet as it is and as cool as it is, the ball's not flying. Guys are hitting wood into 18."

It should be fun to watch. Arnie will be playing, which is always a treat.

Tiger's wise to skip it ... it's got to be a distraction for anyone wanting to focus on the real tournament. I don't think the appeal of the Par 3 is the top contenders, anyway. It's just a fun, "see who can make a hole-in-one" event.

How pathetic..... I turned it on for 2 minutes and then realized how sad it is to watch the par 3 contest.....

Another reason I have this love/hate relationship with this tournament...... The ridiculous TV schedule and the elitist attitude of the tournament added to CBS's reverential over the top coverage.....

It might be a little disappointing when players don't play in it but it's hard to argue with Tiger's preperation. I bet he could do both if he really tried hard. :p

Anyone just see M Singh's caddie putt for him on th elast hole. That was great adn would be great to see him on the course over the weekend in contention.

I have to admit, that par-3 contest was pretty boring and dissapointing. I suppose it is more for kids than for people expecting intense competition.

ESPN really missed a great opportunity to announce their arrival on the Masters scene, especially for Mike Tirico. The broadcast is full of sappy interviews and praises for the big 3 - they should leave that as their eulogies.

I can't believe they said people wanted tickets for the par-3 contest than for the competition rounds - are people really that dumb or did the script writers just make that up? As viewers, we can watch most of what ESPN showed on TGC, we expect better and more from ESPN.

Given that the par 3 contest is meant more for kids according to the press conference by Billy Payne, they should have let The Disney Channel or Nickelodeon do the broadcast.

I didn't mind it too much -- I was expecting to be disappointed and was pleasantly surprised to get some enjoyment out of it. But it's important to note I PVR'd it and zipped through the boring side discussions and other things that didn't interest me, and might have watched about 45 minutes or an hour, total. I think the broadcast ended up running close to three hours -- I can't imagine I would have enjoyed that.

The put a lot of focus on the Big Three, which I enjoyed, to a certain extent. I actually thought Jack had said he wouldn't be playing in the contest this year, so I was surprised to see him. On the downside, Arnold hasn't played well in years, and since giving up playing Jack's game has really deteriorated, and I don't get as much out of watching them anymore.

The way I see it, the Par-3 contest is better presented as a sort of oldtimer's game, which is what they tried to do. But I can see how it would have been a bit tedious if I was sitting through the entire three hours.

One thing that struck me is that the announcers and players kept on talking about how beautiful the course is -- the most beautiful in America, according to Ian Baker Finch. That didn't really come across on television. Some beautiful holes, yes, but also a number that looked like they were carved out of the ravine behind someone's house, and might not look out of place at Dentonia.

I'm not going to be kicking myself if I forget to record it next year. I might not even bother to record it. But if I do manage to catch it I'll probably enjoy it a little bit.

I was pretty pumped about watching it...PVR'd it but in the end, I think a one hour recap was all that was needed. the mystery of what the par 3 looked like is over.

But I can see Tiger's point....a relaxed event with the "boys" has been changed where the kids take center stage.....I can see Tiger playing it again in 1-2 years when his daughter is old enough....Imagine the sight of his 4 year old swinging as well as he was at the same age.
