Anybody hear this story? I believe Rob Ford broke the news on 640 last week. Someone called in a confirmed that he uses his expired card to park. I think there was a couple calls to that effect. Anyway to save money was the excuse.
Rob thanks him for the call. What the heck is that all about? The guy is commiting fraud adn Rob and Oakley are thanking the guy for calling in?
Little ironic or it was a 'scripted call' so to speak. If so, not thought out very well.

there was no way to verify the cards are good, untill they are charged back to the credit card company, you may be still on the hook for the charges imo.

Possibly. What I've heard other people doing are using expired AMEX prepaid cards in the same manner, no way to trace back.

That is exactly what people are doing. The prepaid cards can only be purchased across the border.

I have seen it done. A guy at my work called a card in stolen and has been using it for free parking about once a week for at least a year. Also I remember earlier on in the school year people duping the university credit card parking machines. I know it is not the same machines/ systems but in the end of the day students will spend countless hours to save a few bucks.

I just spoke to someone who is aware of this for years...
He said it does not accept 'expired' credit cards, only 'cancelled' credit cards.
Apparently the meter only check the expiration date.

Would the Master Card Gift Cards you can buy at Shoppers work? It is just like a credit card but has no expiry.

give it a shot. I know there used to be machines on York UNiversity that accepted future shop gift cards but then they updated the software or something.

The Fixer in the Star had a write up on this. In fact it is the problem with the company that the Parking Authority bought the machines from. It cost Toronto about $1.3 million a year. It is a shame that companies that sell machines etc to Govt. do not seem to pay any penalties for faulty equipment i.e. voting machines.

Very sad but we don't hold gov'ts responsible for their own doings so why should a company that sells them (us) something be held accountable?:( The system is broken.
:(
I don't mean to offend anyone here for saying this but I assume those who do this purposely wouldn't be to upset when, for example someone sells them fake brandname golf equipment? Well, maybe upset about it but kudos to the guy who frauded you correct?

toronto parking authority makes enough cash on their rediculous fines for parking tickets...$30+, are you kidding me. the Government makes enough money off its citizens. As for York University, i went there at one point and to say that students are scamming them based on parking, thats a laugh, all that school cares about is the bottom line. just a terrible school.
I say keep it up.
some one should start a poll on this
