Many insurance companies will overlook a fine like this, unless there's a history of offences. The cop should have reduced the speed, so the fine would have cost less and there would have been no demerit points.

Important to note: demerit points are not what insurance companies care about. They go by insurance points. They can drop you as a customer once you obtain 4 insurance points. Examples of insurance points: speeding 1 insurance point (even if it is <15 km/h over which would be 0 demerit), impaired equals 4 points. Basically, I would tell her to watch her driving habits and hope that the insurance company decides to turn a blind eye to this one.

I had a similar incident...

Last year I got caught for speeding in the west end. I was ticketed at 27km over the speed limit and fined $180 bucks, in addition to 3 points...I went 77 in a 50 zone.

I just went to one of those chinese ticket fighters in Scarb, paid them $200 bucks and they took care of the rest. When my court date was set, they represented me and the final judgement was the fine being the same and no points taken off. The $200 bucks I paid the ticket fighter was all the money I had to pay...

Good luck

she was caught at a speed trap..
man i hate speed traps.. on my way to work i go through 3 of them
yes thats 3.. pigs :hush:
her brother in law is a pig him self hopefully he can direct her to the right direction.
but yea i hate speed traps especially since i go through 3 of them almost every morning, there hiding like little thieves behind obstructions like poles or under bridges and there always at spots where theres a sudden change of speed limit from 100-90 or from 50-40..

YES insurance will go up...

Best thing to do is go to whats called 1st appearance, basically youre pleading guilty to probably speeding 15km and under which is what i did, its a very cheap fine, and no demerit pts...I was going 30+ over, i said i was speeding because i forgot my asthma inhaler :)

Make a court date. Go to court, cop or crown will ask whats your plea. Guilty or not. State not- cop or crown will offer reducing fine and points for a Guilty Verdict= No POINTS.

Pay the fine and learn from it.:nono:
Insurance stays the same for next year.:) :) :)

I wouldn't even go to the ticket fighter. It's not worth it and they won't help you with your insurance.

Here is what I did:
1. Plead NOT guilty. NOT guilty with explanation.
2. Set a court date
3. On the court date, if the cop is no-show, you are all good. But 99% of the time, the cop will show up.
4. Say this to the judge, "Not guilty for speeding at 80km/hr in a 60km/hr zone, but guilty for speeding at 75km/hr in a 60km/hr zone. The judge, without asking you a question, will give you a charge on 75km/hr instead of 80km/hr. That way, no demerit points are taken and most of the time, the fine will be lowered to $40.

Trust me, this is all ticket fighters will do for you. At the end of the day, your insurance company will still have your record of this offense. The only reason to use a ticket fighter is when you don't have the time to go through the trouble yourself.

ive got caught speeding once
back in my college days doing 70 on a 50 zone... this was a farm land area
cops hide in the bushes to nail college students at niagara college.
dirty pigs..
anyhow the car was under my dads name at the time and the ticket only cost $35 so i just paid it and never heard from it again.
cops are never there when they should ticket aggresive drivers or
reckless drivers.. tsk tsk tsk

Ridetogolf has it exactly !!!

Never pay someone like XCoppers !!!!

Always go to court. Cop doesn't show, it's thrown out !!!

If they do show, the prosecuter will advise to plea guilty to a lessor offence. No points and a $40 fine. However, it still shows up as an infraction with Insurance Company. They are usually good up till 2 infractions, and then rates go up.

I've heard that an insurance company has the right to hike your rates up on the first offense even.

Even if you go to court it costs you 200 bucks for a day of missed work. They always get you no matter which way you turn.
Its a cash grab and they hate to not get your cash when they reach in your wallet.

Another thing to do his check your ticket for mistakes. If it has the wrong date, wrong time, wrong license number, etc. you can usually beat the rap in court. I've beaten a couple of tickets that way - you would be surprised how often it happens.

Very true. I was lucky last time because the court that I needed to go was only 10 min walk from my work place. But I am sure most of the employers wouldn't mind giving you a free half day off.

Man oh Man, everyone is an expert.

FYI as far as Insurance companies are concerned a ticket is a ticket.

15 over is the same as 5 over. Dont pay someone to plead down because it will still show on your abstract for 3 yrs from the conviction date

ONE OTHER THING TO CONSIDER ALL YOU SPEEDERS LATE FOR THE FIRST TEE!!

A MINOR INCIDENT STAYS ON YOUR DRIVING RECORD FOR 3 YEARS FROM

THE CONVICTION DATE

NOT THE OCCURRANCE DATE.

SO THE LONGER YOU MESS AROUND WITH THE COURT THE LONGER IT TAKES TO FALL OFF.

I might have gotten lost here, did you pay the $180 for the fine as well as $200 to the ticket fighters?
