I heard from a friend that her economics prof told her you can do that at almost all retailers. Try it next time, no joke :)

I've never got an extra discount at Golftown yet other than from the Leaderboard discount. However, I have received many discounts varying from 5 to 15% off at other retailers in the GTA and Vancouver just from asking. Usually the merchandise is the last one, end of season, final sale, or has a tiny mark/scuff/stain on it. So yes it does work. Not sure if gender plays a factor or not?
hmm...interesting, i know at chinese places you can...didn't know those western retail stores you are able to also...i'm not the type to haggle tho :$

I dunno about Golf Town but I did haggle with the staff at Pro Golf in Brampton & they gave me a discount & threw in a box of Maxfli Noodles & a Taylor Made glove.... mind you I bought my irons, bag & putter from them.

Always negotiate. I used to pay full price for stuff, especially when I "just had to have it". Not any more.
Got my irons last year (current model) for $150 off. I just asked for a better price and got it, but I have been a long time customer with this one shop.
Not a golf example but bargains can usually be had as long as you don't need the latest hype ... I just picked up brand new 2003/2004 model skis that sold last season for $900, paying only $250 including bindings. Best part is the 2004/2005 version is unchanged (even the graphics are the same). Gotta love it.

I agree...smart shoppers always check out the competitions' prices and negotiate. Of course, it helps if you are a long time customer at a store and it's a smaller retail store.
Malarky, do you mind me asking which store you got your skis from? $250 is an awesome price!

Not at all, and yeah it was an incredible deal. Dynastar Omecarve 09 is the model I got.
Skiis and Biikes on Dundas west of 427 in Mississauga. They have an annual pre-season clearout in October, only at that location. They had both new and used/demo equipment. First year I went. I only found out because a co-worker of mine knows someone at the store.
Too late for this year unfortunately, if you're in the market. Next year, call the store in September to find out the dates. If I remember (it'll be a long shot, but I'll try), I'll let you know here.

We have the best slection of golf equipment in North America and will match any competive dealer's price, if they have the item in stock.
That is as fair as any business can be.

I've haggled twice at Golftown and have gotten discounts.
I bought a set of TM 320's that were the display model and *****ed about how they were scuffed, etc. Sales manager knocked off like $30.
Yesterday I bought a TM Rescue Mid for my father from the demo sale. It was in bad shape so I haggled once again and had it reduced from $148 to $98. It is possible but you have to talk to the sales manager and there HAS to be a good reason for the discount.
In general though, because of the mass quantities Golftown is able to purchase at, they are sometimes able to sell at below cost so the prices you during those situations are better than anything you can get elsewhere.

That's not a bad idea to work in one of your favourite stores and get supplemental income :) Maybe I should start applying for the Christmas season... hmm

What skills do you need to have to be qualified as a potential GT employee? I heard that it's not easy to become a GT employee.
