Yes I have nothing better to do at the moment but to officially file a complaint for the recent overuse of "LOL" on this forum, especially for comments that are not funny. Please stop, it drives me nuts!

You must have more pressing needs in your day to day life than worrying about the use of LOL in an online forum....LOL!

What you've got to realize is that the members on this forum are somewhere between Baboon and Orangutan on the evolutionary chain. Tell us not to scratch our butt and not only will we immediatly give it a good rub but we will probably smell it too.

You obviously need to get outside and do something, if LOL bothers you that much. I can think of a lot more annoying things to complain about, like starting a thread that complains about the overuse of the acronym LOL.
LOL!

My conclusion is that for these people, "lol" functions in place of a period. Just read it as punctuation and you'll be fine. (Alternatively, "Just read it as punctuation and you'll be fine lol")

I only dislike "LOL" when it's used after something that really isn't all that funny.
And I dislike "rotfl", "lmao", etc., since they all represent extreme reactions to humour and, in general, are WAY over-the-top, and not fitting the joke that has been told.
My reaction is, "Really? You're rolling on the floor over THAT?"
Actually, if you've said something that's genuinely funny, you don't need to tell me that it's funny.
I do, however, find it useful if someone is saying something in jest and wants to be sure that others take it in jest, or if they want to get across a sarcastic tone.
But in general, I dislike internet/texting short forms.

Man, I wasn't even thinking about aged cheese with my comment, but I bet with a good glass of wine it could be a fun evening.... now to find the likely companion, I'll have a look here (http://www.dateacougar.com/?aff_id=influxgroup&aff_pg=2&aff_tr=1&s=free_db_search&aff_cp=GOO).... LOL

That's exactly what I was thinking....
Howie in his Safari garb and with a thick Aussie accent: "Here we are folks, in the dangerously lethal Cougar's domain. They're everywhere, if we're not careful there could be a feeding frenzy. Look there! There's a good example of not being careful around this many cougars." Howie points to some young dude getting assaulted by cougars his mother's age.
