View Full Version : ***2008 RYDER CUP PAIRINGS***
racmbs

Folks....it was a long deliberation, and after much thought....I have completed the 2008 Ryder Cup team. There were several requests from those to play with familiar faces, but I had to keep playing strengths and weaknesses in mind...so please understand that my decision had nothing to do with being someone's buddy. Some know I spent a bit of time playing some rounds with certain people to see how their games stacked up together....others I already knew as I had played many, many, many rounds of golf with them.
I feel confident that this years team will give the OGF guys a good fight and will come out victorious, as I'm sure Geoff's stacked his team with the same type of shooters they had last year and are not going to roll over and die as easily as we think.
So without further ado, I present to you the 2008 Ryder Cup team that will bring home the cup to dirty Toronna! :D

Looks like a strong team you got there Scotty. It's going to be tough to repeat. But we have the advantage of getting strokes on our side. Although we saw last year that doesn't always work to the advantage.
It should be lots of fun as usual.
RR, I'll speak up now on behalf of OG, if we happen to repeat we won't be playing in September. It takes enough planning, organizing and spending to do one of these a year, I won't be doing a second.
Besides, we've got alot of other forum outings and events going on throughout the season, so most of will be busy as it is, let alone with our own club events.

Just out of curiosity, is there a match results/scoresheet from 2007 posted somewhere here?

I don't think we ever posted the individual match results. But we did post the scores from the end of day one and the end of day two on OG. I'll try to find the thread and post the link.

+2 on my end from the challenge...as fun as it is, it ate up alot of my time and just wouldn't have the patience to do it again this year. Coupled with the other stuff I've got going on, events, tourneys....there just isn't time.
Thanks for the offer Ron, maybe next year.

Don't see a lot of work on TGN's part. TGN already has there team put together. All the work is done.
We don't have to travel for this, could be at Ballentrae, Osprey ( Hoot ) or some other local track.
It would be a fun day. TGN would just sit back and show up, wouldn't have to be formal just a bunch of guys getting together for ONE DAY of match play and the most pt's buys the beer and wings.
What is it 12 guys on each team. I'm sure we can find a format that is suitable for the day. Group hug now:D .

all hail our captain RACMBS! :hyper: I appreciate you taking up the role of captain this year and relieving me of the work.
Like last year, the matches are just one part of what makes this a great event. The travel, the camaraderie, the chance to play a couple rounds of golf that have some bragging rights and just playing a team event. It's hard to even duplicate at my home club events.

You did a great job last year bro....I came to realize very quickly this year that juggling this with everything else going on in my life was a tough task, but am glad I took the challenge as it's shaping up to be a great event.
If we win, any member of the 2008 team that wishes to step up and organize a match against TGI are more than welcome to do so, but it will not be me.

What also makes it great is the fact most of us are regular members on both boards. Although we may call one forum our "home" forum, the fact we've gotten to know one another over the years via this method of communication makes it great.
Even though I've only met most of the TGN guys once, I feel like I've known them for alot longer. It makes getting together real easy and relaxing.

Here are the pairings for the Ottawa team. I wouldn't call any of them TGN regulars. I'd refer to them as TGN visitors that are regulars on Ottawa Golf. :)
ironmaster and Indio
Lance LePage and Chris St. Michael
hoolio and geronamo
Paulio and Mattchew
Wilster and gbower
LobWedge and jvincent
Sakuraba and Pinshark
habsfan's friend (habsfan hasn't told me his friend's forum name yet) and habsfan
Geoff Johnston?? and Bouche
I'm not sure how many of them also have TGN accounts. I believe we had more guys on last year's team that frequented both TGN and OG.

I have some unfortunate news Scott. Despite my constant pestering to get it done sooner, my fiancee and her mother have decided to choose next weekend as the weekend to start the building of the new deck. So this officially means I won't be playing at the Ryder Cup. You can imagine what I'm feeling right now.
Now for the even more unfortunate news. If I can't find a replacement for me, I'll have to cut the last player that signed up for the OG team, and I'll have to ask you to cut two guys from your squad. Otherwise, the event just won't work. I am so sorry for this, and feel absolutely terrible about it, but it's the only way it will work.

In the event that OG is a player short I suggest that 1 OG player play one on one match's against two TGN players (Tavistock cup style). That way no one else will be forced out.

I like Jim's idea....as I'm honestly not too keen on having to cut 2 players that have been looking forward to an event that's been planned for quite some time now.
I hope you guys over at OG can get this sorted out.

I'm positive it can....and am positive OG will be able to find someone to fill Geoff's spot. I just can't bring myself to have to choose 2 players to cut as we are all in this with our hearts.
If it really boils down to that, I will honestly not play at all.

My question is, how do you determine who doesn't play in the team portion each day? It throws everything out of whack. Score tracking wise, etc. We'll see what happens.

I lived in kingston for two years and played a couple times with geoff...does that count as a former temporary easterner:confused:
of course the OG team would go from a guy who changes his clubs between the trunk and the course yet can still shoot par to a guy who 'looses' his clubs on the way to the course and passes par at about hole 14:p
PS for those that think I can't suck it up in the rain....this was our ottawa fun forum day

Let the OG player play 2 TGN opponents in lieu of the team portion. All it means is an extra point being played for. Let's remember this event is a fun event so no one should be dumped just to satisfy the scoring method.

Jim, I'm not worried about the points. I know it's for fun, but I just don't think it's fair to ask a guy or guys, to play alone when they were planning on having a OGer by their side both rounds. Part of this is to get to know some fellow forum members, then we send this guy out alone against two TGNers. Not saying you're bad guys or anything, but I know I wouldn't want to be in that position. It's a team event, yet he's out there alone. Just my point of view. Let's not give up on it yet, I'm searching for an 18th.

http://www.wildanimalworld.net/animals/mongo-lg.jpg Mongo was orphaned by his parents and had to be hand raised. We were more than happy to do it! This silly little vervet is such a great monkey, we never get tired of having him around. And that's a good thing because little monkeys need lots of attention. Mongo will ride on your shoulder all day long- he'll even fall asleep up there. How they sleep and hang on at the same time is a total mystery, but he manages to do it. Like most African/Indian monkeys, Mongo has blue skin. If you look closely, however, his skin is actually patterned with some pink throughout. And we'll never mistake him for another vervet because he has a hell of a drive!

Is everyone up to speed with the rates for this event, at the course? I'm talking about the practice round Friday I've setup, and the 2 days of golf for both Saturday and Sunday.
As for the costs, Geoff and I will be skimming $5/player off the top to cover the costs of our expenses for the weekend, and to take home a nice souvenir for the wives as we've promised them and have put more time into this than we can remember. Couple that with all your b!thching and complaining about hotels, tee times, pairings, HDCP's, gas bills, car pooling, practice rounds, etc...etc....etc......I think $5 is pretty damn fair, don't you!
Hope you are all OK with this...because you don't have a choice.

Maybe for some people, but not for all :)

Gentlemen, the calculations are in.
Day one match ups:
Geoff Johnston & Bouche vs. Golfer40 & Swaaain (TGN gets one stroke)
Hoolio & Geronomo vs. Corchard & Gr8glfer (TGN gets one stroke)
Lobwedge & Jvincent vs. Cdnputter & Bowmanville Jim (straight up)
Ironmaster & Indio vs. Braithwaite & Luv2golow (straight up)
Lance LePage & Chris St. Michael vs. Racmbs & Golfingoalie (straight up)
Gbower & Pinshark vs. Toughpar3 & Mule56 (TGN gets two strokes)
Wilster & Habsfan vs. Nobdyhere & Focal (straight up)
CaddyShack04 & Sakuraba vs. Leftygolfer30 & Songman (TGN gets one stroke)
Mattchew & Paulio vs. Albatross & Fresh (TGN gets one stroke)
Day two match ups will be determined on Sunday morning, but here are the team rosters, with indexes, split into the appropriate groups:
Team Ottawa Golf
Ironmaster (4)
Hoolio (4)
Lance LePage (5)
Bouche (5)
Geoff Johnston (7)
Lobwedge (7)
Jvincent (7)
Pinshark (8)
Geronomo (9)
Gbower (9)
Habsfan (10)
CaddyShack04 (11)
Sakuraba (11)
Chris St. Michael (12)
Indio (12)
Wilster (12)
Mattchew (12)
Paulio (12)
Team TGN
Luv2golow (4)
Racmbs (5)
Gr8glfer (6)
Golfer40 (7)
Swaaain (7)
Cdnputter (7)
Bowmanville Jim (8)
Corchard (9)
Mule56 (9)
Focal (11)
Golfingoalie (11)
Braithwaite (12)
Leftygolfer30 (12)
Nobdyhere (12)
Albatross (13)
Songman (13)
Toughpar3 (13)
Fresh (15)
As you can see, I've made three groups of six. For the singles on Sunday, a player can only play another player from the opposite team in the same group (1, 2 or 3). This way, no one has to hopefully give up too many strokes. For instance:
Leftygolfer30 could any of the following players on Sunday:
Sakuraba
Chris St. Michael
Indio
Wilster
Mattchew
Paulio
But he won't have to play any of the other 12 players on the OG side. This new change will hopefully bring a new level of excitement to the event.

Well, we've arrived in Belleville.....played a practice round.....ate some dinner.....caused a scene at the local DQ and disrupted an elderly couples evening out.....showered at the hotels, and are now relaxing to be ready for tomorrow's matches.
Trillium Woods is in GREAT shape, with exception to the greens being just a touch on the fuzzy side due to them being punched last week. Bugs were a little bit of a nuisance today, but with the abundance of Deet in our bags (sprayed so much damn juice on that my lips went numb ) the bugs weren't as bad as they were last year and pressed on.
Some great scores were shot today, and a few struggled and will leave it at that. TGN is ready to do battle tomorrow, and will post updates as the rounds are completed.
For now....I leave you with a lasting photo of the night after the practice round, a couples first drink and hopefully, not their last.

what's with the sissy drinks?
The EXACT question posed by the majority at the table, when Jeff and Charles ordered them....and the main reason for me having them sit next to each other when drinking them. :D

Just back in the hotel after completing todays rounds...and am PROUD to report that TGN is currently leading the 2008 Ryder Cup with a score of 12 to 8.5
Lots and lots of well fought matches...plenty to report but we are tired, hungry and all in need of a shower as we are doused with bug spray. :D
We are off to dinner and if I make it back in good time to write up a report, I'll do it....if not, you'll hear back from us tomorrow and hopefully the end result will be TGN bringing home the cup!!!

As usual...crazy things always happen during Ryder Cup that rarely get posted. I've got some doozie's on my camera, but thought I'd share a pic of Gerry's outifit for tomorrow's match against OGF.

I will just say that I had a great time. It was everthing I expected and then some....see the photo of Gerry.
Cdnputter and I had a great match against Ryan and Jason (I don't know their screen names at OG) where we put a wuppin on them. Cdnputter's putter is awesome.
Today I went down swinging to a very long hitting Lance. He started the round by going driver, 5 iron to 12 feet on the opening hole (Par 5). He was 3 under thru the first 5 holes and had me 4 down. I was able to fight back to 1 down a few times before he finished me off 3&2 with a great par on the par 5 16th hole. This after he hit his drive in the pond.
I have no bug bites that I know of but I did get a blister on my big toe. All in all it was a great time and I WILL be back next year.

Hey guys...
I JUST walked in the door.....if you can allow me to grab a bite to eat and post the results in a bit, it would be greatly appreciated! :)
I do want to thank ALL of the 2008 TGN Ryder Cup members for taking the time out of their busy schedules, to come join in the fight to try and take home the cup. I hope you guys all had a blast, because I know I certainly did and would do it all over again, if offered the chance.
Cheers,

Great weekend of golf, fantastic course, nice and sunny, buggy Saturday but fine Sunday. Very enjoyable matches against the OG boys. Quality pairings from our Captains, racmbs and swaain.
Can't wait till next year boys!
Thanks to bowmanvillejim and fresh for being my partners, I'd take either as a partner any day of the week.
