After reading a few threads, I wanted to introduce myself to this community. I look forward to sharing ideas with other forum members on how to sharpen my game, especially around the green.
Living in Costa Rica, I am able to play year round. There are many courses where you can play all day for just $25. Be careful, when playing in the rain forest, monkeys are known to steal your balls from time to time.
Best regards,
Richard

Hello RichardBlank,
Welcome to the board. Monkey's stealing your balls. It's another good reason not to wear those baggy rapper shorts. :D
I don't know about time to time. Seems it would only happen twice and you'd been done.
Ah heck this could go on for hours.
If we make it down that way, we'll be sure to look you up.

VBall,
It may 83 degrees and sunny everyday. Still, I would trade for a few days of sunshine for a couple fo days of skiing during winter.
Don't be jealous. You now have a good connection in paradise.

Hey Richard...
I'll be heading down to your neck of the woods later this year... booked to play a few rounds at the Garra de Leon course... will be down there at the local resort which its connected to.
any thoughts/experiences playing there???
if a monkey takes my ball and carries it to the green and drops it in the hole... that is considered a hole in one yes????

Make sure to play Conchal or Los Suenos. There is nothing like playing next to the ocean. To answer your question, yes, you would get a hole in one. If you have a buddy dress up as a monkey, you lose the hole and have to buy a round.

Thanks Richard... and welcome to the nuthouse...
Believe that the course i mentioned is the Conchal course... never played beachresort style golf... should be interesting...
I have heard that I will need to club up due to all the moisture in the air around the ocean... does anybody know if this is true??? I found this to be somewhat true even around myrtle beach.

Try to keep your shots low. The wind can play a huge factor.
The bright side is that the greens will stick.
Sounds like a blast. I am sure you will have a great time no matter what you shoot.

It's one of those courses you can only access by staying at the resort. My wife and I did just that the same year as your honeymoon when they had just opened and were offering some incredible deals. We booked for one night but the course was so fantastic we stayed an extra night. It was the first week the course was open and there was hardly a divot anywhere. Having never experienced Howler Monkeys, I thought it was a Mountain Lion when I heard that sound. There was a big male in a tree beside one of the greens and did he have a set of 'you know what' on him!
Anyway, there's only one other course I've ever played that even comes close in beauty and challenge and that is El Tamarindo on the west coast of Mexico. Richard may be able to answer this question but I am told that even the wealthy Ticos can't access this property as they want to keep it exclusive for foreign tourists. That's ironic as the local owners are Ticos themselves! This information courtesy of friends who live in Santa Ana.

I am not exactly sure about that. The wealthy Ticos are responsible for bringing many tourists here. Still, if someone does not want me, I don't want to be there. Costa Rica has many courses that welcome everyone with the passion to play.
"This place sucks, the only reason I am here is maybe I'll buy it" Rodney had the right idea in Caddyshack. Snobs never win in the end.

You might want to check that link as I'm not sure "new breathalizer rules" has anything to do with Costa Rica.

I read the link to new breathalizer rules I'm pretty sure it doesn't apply to Costa Rica.

We stayed at Fiesta Premiere resort ... it was great! Good food ... great rooms/amenities etc.
THe only problem is ... and it is nothing to do with the resort ... is that on the night of our wedding, we fouind out that my wifes cousin and her mom were going to be at the same resort that same week! If they weren't extremely annoying it wouldn't have been that bad, but they constantly wanted to do things with us.
We found out at a later date, they knew where we booked our honeymoon .. then booked their trip because they thought it would be fun, and wanted to surprise us by telling us on the night of our wedding. I could have killed them!

That sounds like the making of a good short film. The fiesta was a wise choice.

Jaco, one of my most favourite places in CR. It's been a few years. Is the Copacabanna still there?

Hi Richard,
I'll be down in San Jose for 6-12 weeks starting mid-June. Last time I was down, I played at Valle Del Sol in Sanata Ana (near San Jose).
Do you know any of the other courses near San Jose? I get the feeling I'm going to be really bored on the weekends and will be looking for a game anywhere.

Good for you. I hope you enjoy your trip.
You should look into the 9 hole course of los reyes. If you have a connection, the golf course in Escazu is nice and Cariari can't be beat. Still both of those are private, so you need an invite to play.
Second, try to tee off by 6am to get in a round. The rain starts early and can last all day. We just entered the rainy season for the next six months!
Good luck.
Richard
