For me, definately putting. I sometimes have great putting days and sometimes poor days. Need to get consistent. After that, I would say my fairway woods. I dont' even touch my 5 wood.

for me... always the PUTTING! Driver I'll slice here & there but manage to scramble safely on the green... but damn putter always lets me down. I'm usually on GIR... then end up 2 or 3 putting... sucks. Definitely practising putting in the off season.

You may be using the driver too much.....trying taking a wood off the tee instead...:)

The problem is I am not a long hitter. Sometimes I have no choice but to use my driver to carry my ball over the rough.

But if I got really frustrated with my driver, like last Sat., I started teeing off with my 5 wood (I don't have a 3 wood yet).

I went to Parkview cuz I didn't want to drive to far. But I should've gone to Pleasant Run. Too bad I didn't get the email from them until Friday night.

Ridetogolf,

Please don't take this as picking on you. It's a general statement that concerns a lot of people and it may not even be the case with you.

I hear a lot of people saying this same thing. If the landing zone for the fairway is to far to reach with a 3 wood then the people should move up to the next deck. I see too many people playing the gold’s instead of the blues or blues instead of the whites. For most of us golf should be about having fun. Not frustrating the heck out of yourself.

Once we get to the right deck, then it's about course management. Nobody needs to hit a 300-yard drive. They are nice if you can do it, but 225 will do just as well. 575 - 225 (drive) = 350 - 200 (3 wood) = 150 - 150 (5 iron) = GIR. If you hit them any longer you get they’re quicker and use less club to finish the hole. I play with a couple of older guys and they will kick your pants by being straight and one putting you to death. When I play with them I move up and play their tees. It changes my management of the course and sometimes make for more difficult second and third shots.
Next time your looking down the fairway with your driver, remember if I have to hit any longer then 225 - 250 I should be at the next deck up. Might surprise yourself and find out when you think easy swing for 250 you find your ball out there 270.

well said mule56. playing from the appropriate tee box makes the game more fun especially for rec players.

i just played a round on saturday and one of my partners reiterated the same advice.

he told me a story about playing with a club pro. the others in his group were about to tee off from the golds and the pro asked them if they had mastered the course from the whites yet? all shook their heads no.

the pro went on to say that most recreational players play from tee boxes that are not suitable for their level. from then on, my friend usually plays the blues.

typically, the tee boxes reflect your handicaps and are as follows:

gold - Handicap 7 & under
blue - Handicap 8-16
white - Handicap 17-25
red - Handicap 25 & over

therefore, next time you and the rest of the ladies play, you should be playing the white tee's...hahaha...j/k

I think for most of us, it is a pride issue. If we can just forget about that, then we'll be fine. I think I'm going to take Mule's advise and play from the shorter tees next season.

I remember this one friend who played on Bradford Highlands.....he was insulted that he couldn't play the back tees because the starter told him that the back tees are for single digit handicaps.....he proceeded to play the middle tees and still shot maybe 13-15 over....which is a good score, but still not reflective of the tees he wanted to play on.....some ppl have to learn to suck up their pride..:cookoo:

Wow, I did not know this. I am a beginner and play at the Red tees all the time. But even though I've played with guys that are beginners I've never seen them hit from the Reds.

I need help in every department. haha but most of all my putting.
