read an article recently about how the lack of caddie programs at clubs has DIMINISHED access for a lot of youngsters to the game. It was a way for youngsters to learn the game, the etiquette and gave them access to courses and make some good pocket change/tips.
the arguement also was it would HELP speed up the game compared to power carts.
your take? and would you use a caddie if offered in your club?

Yes, yes and yes.
I plan on getting one when I go to Settlers Ghost.

I had a buddy of mine caddie in a GAO event and it was great. It felt like we were a team against the course.
I think it is a FANTASTIC way to introduce juniors to the game. I'd pay a little extra to have a caddie.

I'm too damn cheap, but if it was a choice between a caddie and a cart it would be a caddie hands down

if i had to chose between $17.50 for a power cart
or $17.50 for a caddie, i'd chose the caddie.
Although, that might be illegal since he'd be paid below minimum-wage (approx. $2.92/hour)
However, I'd tip him a buck for every birdie and a toonie for every eagle
I knock in.
i have made use of the kids @ Don Valley who'll clean your clubs for you after your round for a quarter.:)

I'd use it for the same price as a power cart, but I don't use power carts. I had a friend caddie for me once as a joke, it was great walking around with no clubs!

I would use a caddie at times, never done that, I think it would be a nice experience.

Having a caddie is the best way to play golf, especially in a tournament. It gives the whole experience a "professional" feel.
Reinstate caddy programs asap.

It would depend on how much the caddy looked like GRT's avatar
Honestly, I've never played with one. I don't think I'd know what to do, but it sure would be nice to have somebody else carry my clubs. I know they do more than that, but I'm almost certain I couldn't benefit from most of it other than knowing the greens.

remember the thread about sexually suggestive sport? you should re-read your post...starting with "GRT's avatar" and then following up with "I don't think I'd know what to do..."

If they reinstated the caddy program which they do have at some courses, I would use one for sure at a course I didnt know. I think the course knoledge is so important and would be very usefull, not only on the greens but where to lay up and where the hazards and such are located.
I have had soem in past OVGA tournaments and like someone else posted, it is nice to walk to your ball without clubs and have someone else offer advice to better your score. It helps if this person knows your game (mine was another member and we played often together):D

That was probably me raving about the caddies in Asia. What great service, hopefully make another trip in Sept/Oct.
I think the cost is a real problem but some courses are trying to get these programs together. Settler's Ghost and Bond Head are trying, Coppinwood is talking about a full caddie program, but with annual dues of $6900.00 they can do what they want. As somebody said, at minumum wage, that's going to be $30-40 plus tip.
Ever have the chance to play with caddies, I highly recommend it.
Cheers.

Focal, you are one sick puppy. I like that.
A caddy would be for making sure I had a nice smooth stroke, of course ;).

I'd definitely give it a try again. I had a caddy when I played at Half Moon Bay course in Jamaica. I think it was mandatory. It was a few years ago. Really cool to have someone chase down your errant shots. Especially after all that rum and a few of the island's more popular intoxicants :D .
