I really don't know where to begin with this post, as I am mentally/physically spent from the 2 days of battle (as I'm sure ALL members are), so I'll post what comes to mind and go from there.

First off, I want to thank Geoff Johnston from OGF who put a lot of time and effort into making this a successful event for both sides. If it weren't for you bud....I'm sure quite a few of us would have been lost with the formats and can't thank you enough for taking charge of the scoring afterwards.

Secondly, a HUGE thanks goes out to the OGF squad who came out and gave us 2 days of grueling matches, filled with plenty of great shots (some not so great) and lots and lots of laughter. It's also important to note, that Dave has now found an identical twin over on OGF that could pass as his swing double if Hollywood ever came knocking. :D Members of the OGF squad who I would like to thank are as follows:

Bouche (pls, try and hit it a little shorter next time )
Hoolio (how's the blood/alcohol level this evening? :D)
Geronomo
Lobwedge (aren't you glad it was HIS wedge shaft, and not yours? :p)
Jvincent
Ironmaster
Indio
Lance LePage
Chris St Micheal (have you found Jesus yet? :D)
Gbower
Pinshark
Wilster
Habsfan
Caddyshack04
Sakuraba
Mattchew
Paulio

You guys made this event what it was this year and cannot thank you guys enough for participating, and hope you come out next year.

And now, without further ado....please join me in CONGRATUALTING the 2008 RYDER CUP CHAMPIONS, TEAM TGN!!!! WHOOOOOO-HOOOOOOO!!!!!

With a final score of 22.5 to 16, I CANNOT begin to tell you how proud I am of EVERY SINGLE one of these guys who came out to play some stick....and play with your hearts you did. I know their was some concern with some of the pairings I had made up prior to us going into battle, but I'm happy I stuck to my guns and KNEW that you guys would pull it off!!!! :)

The following people deserve to give themselves a big pat on the back for bringing home the cup to Toronna, and are without a doubt the best group of guys I've ever played group match play with and can't wait to defend the title next year with you all.

swaaain (thx for all the work behind the scenes bro, and the entertainment on the course. Wally sends his regards, and put don't forget to ice that knee :D)
Corchard
gr8glfr (being 1 up, didn't matter :p)
cdnputter
BowmanvilleJim
Braithewaite
Luv2golow (NEVER a dull moment with you my friend, thx for keeping the team relaxed afterwards)
Golfingoalie (only you could pull off underwear like that, and still be called my friend )
ToughPar3
Mule56
Nobdyhere
Focal
Leftygolfer30
Songman (the urban dictionary is a MUST for all of our trips )
Albatross (you can have boom-boom ANYTIME before a match on my team bro :D)

Well guys...I'm SPENT. I'm sitting here at home now, wifey is downstairs and the poor thing was really sick while I was away having fun and want to go downstairs and take care of her. I've got lot's of memories from this event...and will post some pics tomorrow evening sometime...but for those who have some of their own, feel free to stick them in here. I will never look at toilet paper the same way again, and still can't get that image out of my head where Gerry knocks at my door and I answer with him standing there in some gawd-awful underwear that would make any straight man cringe.

Once again guys, I can't thank you enough for joining the squad and playing your hearts out....it means alot that you all took it as seriously as I do and hope you brag about this for the entire year because YOU guys are the best man!!!

Cheers,
Scott

Well, I had a more than a BLAST. I had 17 of the best teammates anyone could ever have.

SoNgMaN, you were a great partner on Saturday - I still don't know how we managed to pull off 1 1/2 points but we did! Also, thanks for putting up with my snoring roomie! :D

Jay, thanks again for driving - I REALLY needed the nap on the way home!

Scotty & Swainer, thanks once again for all your hard work, every single one of us appreciate it.

Scotty, the TP in your room was just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to getting you back for the "6:00 a.m." wake-up calls.

Gerry, sorry about what I did in your room on Friday night :D

And to our worthy opponents in Ottawa - better luck next time!

I think you summed it up pretty well there, Scotty.;)

The weather was awesome, the course was awesome, and the matches were; well.... Awesome. I really don't think Ive laughed that much in a long, long time.:p

First and foremost, a huge thanks to our captain Scott, and our co-captian Jeff. You guys did a great job. It was an insane amount of work to put this all together, and it did not go unappreciated. Also a huge thanks and load of respect to Geoff Johnston, of course this event could not have happened and gone off as smoothly without your involvement and dedication.

Secondly, many thanks to our competetors. OGF fought hard and put up an excellent challenge. There were some wicked battles on the course, and many memories to be cherished for a long time to come. I'd especially like to thank the gentlemen I had the pleasure of playing against, JVincent; Lobwedge; and the man known as Hoolio..... it was a wild time to say the least. And hopefully I taught you guys a thing or two about the "Boston Pancake"..... It was great seeing and hanging out with you guys again, and as far as I'm concerned; we all came out winners this weekend.;)

Finally, thanks to the TGN team. As usual, I'd go to war with you dudes anytime. Special thanks to my first day playing partner Braithwaite ( good lookin' Matty, what a comeback!) and my singles compadre Albatross ( when it's breezy, swing easy:p) You guys rock. You guys can pop by for some cupcakes, wine and Nyquil any time. And we can talk about Tony Danza..... Never mind. Gerry, bunking with you was a freakin joke, but in a good way...kinda..

All in all, an amazing weekend followed by the ultimate prize..... THE CUP COMING HOME TO TORONTO! We played our hearts out, and we all hope we did you proud. The TGN/OGF Ryder cup is not just an event.... It's an experience. I was glad to be a part of it, and can't wait for next year to defend. Having tasted defeat last year.... Victory is sweet!

NOW LETS GO TAZEY CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I tip my hats to you guys. You played very well and deserved the win. Nothing but class all the way around.

A big thanks to Scotty. You have no idea how nice it is to organize an event and not have to worry about anything on the other end. Well played captain, congratulations.

A big thanks goes out to Corchard, gr8glfer, Fresh and cdnputter. All true gentlemen and I enjoyed every minute of it, even if I did get skunked for the weekend. I'd tee it up with you guys anytime.

A special thanks to Mule. Bob, without your legwork on the ground again, I don't think this would've gone off so smoothly. It's much appreciated my friend.

And to the rest of the TGN team, it was truly a pleasure guys. It was great to really get to know you guys a little better this year. Thanks again for a great weekend. Now like everyone else around here, I'm bushed and heading to bed.

I said it on the OG forum I will say it here. This weekend was as good as I anticipated. Great people, great weather and some outright fantastic fun. Two years in a row you people and this event have made my golf season.
My hats off to Geoff and Scott (and Jeff) for the work they did to make this possible. You deserve to stand up and take a bow. To all the participants, thank you for being what this game truly is. Your families, the courses you represent and the Toronto Golf Nuts community should be proud you.
To my team mates, 17 of the greatest guys. Laugh, smile, talk and laugh some more. To my playing partners, Manny and Gerry, thanks for keeping me sane for my first two rounds of the year.
To the OG team thanks, no I really mean thanks. :D Your are a great bunch of guys.

Day 1 match 1 (alternate shot): Nobdyhere & Focal vs. Will & Pat (don't remember screen names) All Square
Day 1 match 2 (better ball): Nobdyhere & Focal vs. Will & Pat All square
Day 2 singles: Nobdyhere vs Mattchew - All Sqaure

Man it was a grind through all my matches as i had to grind back from as much as 3 down to square the match.

I would like to thank Focal for holding the team together durring the best ball as i lost my golf game after the first match.

It was tons of fun as i knew it would be and hope to see the team together next year. To both captains Geoff and Scott & Jeff thank you very much for spending the time and effort to organize this annual beast of an event and hope we still have the same interest as we did this year for many years to come.

If you want to know the results, I gave the scoring sheets to Scott. I figured he'd want to frame them to make this win last forever. :p :D

Seriously, I could go through all the scorecards, but I believe if Scott wants to post the results he could. It would be quicker for him.

Tell me about it. I'm already on the hunt for a swap for some sort of mallet. :)

But it was good to get the competitive juices flowing. Hopefully this will help get my game a little sharper for my first club event in two weeks. It was good to have someone put some pressure on me (right Fresh????:D ). I just wished I could've matched you putt for putt. It was one of the most enjoyable matches I've played.

WOOHOO,

Well I had a great weekend, met great guys, it was a great course and the weather could not have been better. Bugs pissed me off but hey it was well worth it. Wanted to give a big thanks for the guys that made this event possible (Scotty, Jeff, and Geoff). It took alot of time and you guys deserve a big pat on your back.

All the OGF guys sure did put up a fight. All great guys, and great golfers.

We had tons of laughs, wake up calls at 6am, me and Scotty's room covered in toilet paper. And thanks to Gerry and Dave I know alot more "meanings" now then ever LOL.

And to all the team members it was great to meet you all, and hope we can all get out there next year as well. A big thanks to Clint for stepping up to the plate when we needed another guy to fill in, also helped me in the singles matches to cool me down when I got pissed, although I lost I almost made a comeback.

To Dave for being my playing partner, we sure did make a come back. It was great to play with you and I don't think I have laughed as much as I did on a golf course.

Gerry- "You are a fine little plumpkin you are" "Thanks" LOL great times guys. Cannot wait to get out there next year.

My matches went
Day1 ( same as Luv2golow)
Day 2 habsfan def. braithwaite 2&1
I tried to come back from a 3down with 5 to play got it to 1 down with 2 to play and put 2 OB on 17

I just placed a phone call to Trillium to thank the course for their outstanding hospitality. Once again they did a great job of hosting (right Swainer???:p ). And I was pleased to hear they have received some emails from some of the players thanking them as well. It's nice to arrive and have everything run so smoothly.

Well after reading all the posts so far, I was already laughing my *** off...

All I can say is that I had an amazing time playing with all you guys this weekend. Even though I was a last minute call up and arrived sat before the first matches, I still felt every bit a part of the team and that made it awesome!

I must say though my back is really hurting today after carrying Swainner around the course on SAT joking.... Thanks to Jeff for trusting me as his partner on the saturday 2 matches we played very well together... on the front nine!LOL.. He still made the sweetest shot out of the marsh on the 4th to set us up for a net par to win the hole.

Matty was my partner on Sunday heads up matches and we had lots of fun, always sweet to watch him bomb the ball! He faired well against his rival and just fell short but with some ****** breaks... could have gone either way!

Thanks again to Scott for all his hard work setting up the event and giving Matt my poker winnings on sat night! LOL

Dave (luv2golow) we really could not have this tourney without you, I have not laughed that hard in a while!! And its no cankles it's all Muscle baby!!!!

Matches:

Day1 Swainer/Myself won alternate shot on the front 9
Lost better ball on the back nine

Day2 I won my match 1up on the 18th!

Thanks again guys!!! Looking forward to next year!

A question for the team members... what were your personal memorable shots during the weekend?

I know of one. After OG member Bouche hit his approach on the par 5 11th to within 6-8ft for an eagle attempt, Scotty then holes out from just over 100yds for eagle to put the pressure on Bouche. Luckily, Bouche halved the hole by making the putt. That would've been something to see.

Mine would probably be on saturday htting a couple shots tight on the par 3's and for the 3 down with 4 to play, winning 1 up with Dave.

Not so much a memorable shot, but a memorable moment.

On Saturday, myself and my partner Bouche faced corchard and gr8glfer. Our group flew along. I'm not sure what time we finished in, but Wally (self proclaimed marshall of the year) told us we finished in record time after our round was complete. It was at this point that he tells me he must report an "incident" he had with one of the players. I tried to get him to tell me who, but he couldn't recall the exact person.

Anyways, the story goes he approached a group on a hole, who at the time was looking for a possibly lost ball, and asked them to pick up the pace a little. At this point, said offender speaks up and says he has the right to look for his ball for 5 minutes. Wally doesn't know what he's talking about, and that, said offender, trains marshalls. Wally keeps telling me the details and I tell him I will sort it out and apologize for any trouble.

So I'm on the patio waiting for Scott to come in to relay the story to him. He finally finishes up, we start to chat. I'm describing the details, and when I get to the point where Wally told me said offender said he trains marshalls Scott stops me mid-sentence and says "It's Swain.". I ask him if he's sure and he says yes.

So Swain's group finally comes in, Scott approaches him and starts to talk to him. I can see Swain getting a little "emotional" and then I hear his voice start to rise. Before Swain even finishes his recount of the events, Scott turns to me, throws his hands in the air triumphantly and says "Told you!!" I could do nothing but laugh.

That was a great match. The shot of that match was probably seeing OGF's JVincent hole out from the bunker on 4..... But it didn't take enough wind out of our sails, as we mounted a great comeback.;)

I personally don't think I hit any stellar shots, but I just played my steady-eddie game and made the shots when I had to. Even though the majority of guys I palyed with were WAY longer than me, I just played my game and didn't get too aggressive. But when the pressure was on.... I made my shots count. Thats matchplay for ya.:D

My most memorable shot from the weekend would have to be on the 8th hole on Sat. Down 1, I rattled the flagstick from about 25-30yds off a downhill, sidehill lie. My partner thought it was in to square the match going to the 9th hole. And then I almost made a remarkable chip in on 9, playing about 45-50* away from the cup.

There weren't too many memorable shots in my groups over the two days, but lots of solid shots. There was plenty of good golf played.

Saturday's round, waiting at the teebox for Hoolio to show up. I'm standing there and all of a sudden there's this shadow on me, "hi" I look up and there's Hoolio (Ryan)...I blurt out "geez you sure grow 'em big in the Valley" :D

Hoolio steps up to hit his first tee shot, hammers a drive, starts telling the ball to bite... I'm thinking the creek that crosses the fairway is 295 from the blues... wth is with the bite crap? We get up to his ball, 3 yards from the edge of the creek....:cookoo: Jim and I manage to par, Hoolio and geronamo (Jason) bogey somehow... good putting I guess ;) up one.

Next hole, Jim knocks one stiff to 6 feet, I hit mine to 4, Ryan and Jason just start laughing and drinking. Great round of golf, lots of laughs.

Last year, I can't recall who it was, but there was more than one OG bomber out there flying the creek - all they would have left was a mid iron.

A lot of long ball hitters on that team.

first off...congrats to everyone who played. I play so many member events and nothing comes close to this Ryder event.

Secondly to Geoff/Scott/Jeff for doing all the work this year. It was nice to hang up my captain's role, sit back and just play.

I know how much work there is in putting this together, but it was Scott/Jeff's focus on winning that made the difference this year. I honestly think we played better this year as a team.

To Bob, thanks for hosting again. Great course and very fair test.

thanks to Fresh for the drive...

Lastly, to my partners, first nobdyhere...it's always a pleasure to play a round with you. You bailed us out when my shots weren't there on the front nine, so it's square in the end. As a team, we made it happen and "stole" our points on the front and the back matches.

To Bruce, it was a pleasure to watch you storm back in your singles. Hate to have everyone laugh but you have to take it in good fun on 18 on that chip. That was a classic moment.

To my opponents, those were some epic matches Saturday and only fitting that we were all square in the end. Well played.... To Jason and Frank, good singles matches and it was great company also. Although, I think I recalled some "guaranteed win" that was announced by you Jason on Ottawa Golf.

I may be one of the old fogies on the team but it's always fun to recapture my youth watching you guys.

thanks again for another great year....

4th hole on saturday. Terry can share thtat one :)

Well, after hitting my drive OB, my great partner stepped up and put a shot just short of the pond leaving us no choice but for me to take the route over the pond and bunker to get to the green. So, I step up and hit a Charles (a hosel rocket for those that don't know :D ) and the ball hits two of the pond side rocks and ends up behind and to my right in the mmiddle of the fairway. Then Brad steps up and hits a fantastic iron shot to about 15 feet. I then stepped up and knocked in the par (net birdie) putt! :p

We didn't hear the conversation in our opponent's cart but I'm sure it wasn't a very happy one.

Personal highlights of "good" shots of mine were hitting a 5-iron out of the crap on 18 to just short of the green and then getting up and down for par on that hole so we could pull out a tie in that match.

Also, playing the 4th hole on my own in singles on Sunday and getting on the 4th green in 2 to have my opponent concede the hole before I even had to putt.

Overall, for me, it was my putting on Saturday (made everything inside 15-20 feet) and my driving on Sunday (only missed 2 fairways!).

Firstly I would like to thank Scottie, Jeff and Geoff for putting on this shing ding! Great job guys!

To Charles and Dixon. Thanks for putting up with me for the 2 days.

Most memorable moment had to be my 3rd on 18 in the singles matches.
Just off the green and in the rough and about 30ft away.
Scottie tells me that I have to hole it to win. I'M thinking WTF as I am already 1 up at that point, so holing didn't even factor in the equation.
So being the competitor or the silly SOB that I am, I said to myself, "self" drain this just to show them off.

So with all the players as a gallery I proceed to hit a "Tin Cup" o hosel and the crowd breaks up in lafter. Boy did I feel a little sheepish at that point.
No worries though, I halved my match and had the BEST time for the 2 days.

To the Ottawa players, thanks for the spirit, competition and friendship displayed. It made the matches spectatular!

Thanks to the rest of the team making me feel welcome and part of the team even though I was and still am fairly new to the forum. A great bunch of misfits, screwballs and all around good eggs.

Okay (I'm going to post this in the OG forum too), as much as I love the name Ryder Cup, this tournament needs it's own name, if for nothing else, because of the general lack of sanity of it's participants.:D

I have a few suggestions (mainly due to the comic relief and antics provided by luv2golo, swaaain, hoolio, etc. :cookoo:). Chime in with yours, and maybe we can organize a poll between the forums to decide a name. JAT...

1) The Slumpkin Cup
2) The OG/Nuts Cup
3) The Snapstick Cup (swaaain knows what I mean)
4) The GOGO Cup
5) The Mosquito Cup
6) The Jailbait Cup

I'm sure there are plenty of others, so drop another "pellet in the hamster cage" and throw some ideas out there.

Cheers

Same thing happened to him (different marshall) on the 11th tee on Sunday, just after we had nearly run over the starter at the turn who had already told us we were about 20 minutes behind.

I'm standing about 5 feet from the marshall explaining that we had already been informed by the starter what was up (and that it was mainly my fault for playing so sh**ty ), when swaaain, from 30 feet away belts out "THANK YOU!! WE'VE ALREADY BEEN TOLD!! THANKS A LOT!! OKAY THEN!! THANK YOU!!" Then the marshall starts chirping back at him. I'm thinking "okay, here we go..." :D

Just so that everyone doesn't think we're shooters all the time, in singles play our 4 some lost between us maybe 15 balls.

Shot of the day came from jvincent who on the long par 3 8th had pulled his T shot in the long junk on the left high above the green right beside his partner. His partner blows his chip over the green. Showing great touch which ultimately defeated me he chips the ball to within a couple of feet. My 25 footer come up short and I miss my 5 footer for par.

A special thanks to Toughpar3 who held up his own with the Ottawa guys at the gentlemen's bar while we we're nursing our pasta hangovers.

I must thank Scott, Jeff and Geoff for putting on one hell of a show.

Ok, lets get the story straight here for good,

We were waiting all day long for the group ahead of us. Get to 11 and I block my tee shot right into the sparce fescue. Hit a provisional, which I know where it is. The group has just gotten onto the green which is a par 5, and our group is about 230 out from the green.

I am now walking up to my provisional after taking 1 min to look for my tee shot. And the marshall drives up saying to me "How much longer do you plan on looking for your ball?

I respond, "Well I can take up to 5 mins if I chose."

He then says to me "Not at this course, your group is out of position and I need you to pick up the pace!"

Need I remind everyone, I am standing at my provisional, with a group on the green!!!!!

I respond "What are you talking about?"

He then gets out of his cart and up in my grill. "You are taking too long to look for your ball and you are out of position, pick up the pace."

I then lose it, as 1) This guys has the nuts to get out his cart to tell me that I am out of position

2) He is giving me attitude

I then Respond to the clown, "I have trained marshalls for a living and you have no clue what you are doing!!!!"

He then leaves and we proceed to wait 8 mins on the next tee for the green to clear as it is a par 3.

I like "The Snapstick Cup"...brought to you by, "SWAAAIN", makers of quick shaft replacements on the course by simply snapping it over your knee.

I wish I had a camera for that one...it was classic.

The story behind this is that I was becoming very frustrated with my very poor putting coming down the stretch. I 3 putted the last 4 holes where I could have closed out the match.

So on 17 I left my first putt 8 feet short on a very fast down hill putt, so in my frustration, I went to snap my putter over my knee. Now in my quick thinking and reflexes, I realized that I am putting with a Scotty 009 and quickly turn, pick up my already dead L wedge (see Bwadds story about the 4th hole) and quickly snap it over my knee before anyone can realize what has happened i say "Now I feel better"

I then proceed 1 up on 18 and drop a 20 footer for Birdie to win 2 up. The putt fallig felt like crap as I was still fuming over my lsat 4 holes. It was just like, ok now you work you piece of junk!
