So I just bought a new driver, and I wanna test it out. Thing is, wen I get off work tomorrow it's about 4ish, leaving me only 3-4hrs of play time. All i'm looking for is a longer 9 hole course, that can test my driver out. I jsut wanna see how far this baby goes.:D the range doesn't work for me, since none of them are really accurate, and the balls are only 1piece crappy used balls. You angus glenn boys have 9hole prices?

The BEST 9 hole course in the GTA bar-none is PARKSHORE (located around Albion & Steeles-area...can't remember exactly...3500+ yards!

Markham Green Golf and Country Club.

It is what remains of the old IBM Big Blue Country Club after they sold off most of the land to homebuilders. The remaining 9 holes which made up the 'valley' portion of the old course are still mainly intact. ... on of the holes has an 30' elevated tee-deck that overlooks the fairway. ... go with a 4-iron or you'll risk driving into the creek.

Flemingdon park 155 St. Dennis Dr. (just east of the DVP, south of Eglinton Ave. E.), 416-429-1740.

Flemingdon is a little short to test the driver. I would recommend Markham Green, good price and a fun course too, some really goof golf holes on it.

exactly what i'm talking about ... the tee deck that is next to the sidewalk up there by the swimming pool. i think the 'golds' are on the front lawn of 117 Rouge Bank Drive. :)

u suggesting a free round is possible?
yeah, sort of ... maybe 5 holes .... just hover around the back-tees of #5 ... wait for a gap and you can play 5-6-7-8-9 over and over again.

One v. cool thing about Markham Green is that water is in play on most of the 9 holes .. #2 (right), #3 (front of green), #5 (right AND front of green), #6 (left), #7 (left and cuts across middle), #8 (left), #9 (long left of green).

never been. it's private and i've never been invited.

also ... to the AG guys ... does AG have a 9-hole rate?
(there might be because I've heard of the Nine-and-Dine specials @ AG)

Markham Green is not a private course, anyone can play it.

http://www.markhamgreengolfclub.ca/

From what I remember it's not a bad track. The only thing bad about is there's only 9 holes left and if you want to play 18 you replay the holes again.

To the poster....you should consider playing Rolling Hills Classic or Challenge (freebie plug for me: I have some certs for sale in Buy and Sell). You can finish 18 in around 3 hours. The course is pretty open so when you spray that new driver you'll still be able to find the ball.:D There are some short par 4's which can be quite fun if you can power that new driver...might have a look at a eagle even.

Unfortunately Angus does not have 9 hole rate. We do however have some 9 and dine night with special pricing for golf and dinner. These can be found at www.angusglen.com (http://www.angusglen.com/)

markham green, carruthers or riverside?

which one do you guys prefer?Markham Green, Riverside or PARKSHORE

Parkshore's probably the best 9-hole track around.
Markham Green (the old IBM course) would be 2nd best in my books followed by Riverside for those days where you don't care.. you just want to golf somewhere.

how are parkshore's conditions? They've always been pretty decent whenever I've dropped in to play a quick 9 after work.

In fairness though, I haven't played there since the beginning of July due to working later..

Here's what others have had to say...

Not exactley GTA but Calerin in Erin is the best 9 hole course I have played,

Doug Carrick design and they have alternate tees for second nine that make a few of the holes play completely different.

Watson's Glen has a nine hole rate. I think it's after 3pm. Great course to test out a driver. #2 hole is almost 600yds from the tips.

Not really a GTA course either but in the Barrie area. Allandale ... 3250 yards, an originally Stanley Thompson course. They have 3 par5's for you to bomb the tee ball.

Re earlier comment on Rolling Hills I am not a big fan of it either and I haven't played there for almost 2 years. But running a golf course is a business and follow the basic rule of supply and demand. For the price, location and the product they offer I am sure there is a demand to it in order for them to survive. Whether they survive well or not only Clublink will know. All I am saying is every course has its position in the market. If the product/price they offer is not demanded, sooner or later something has to be changed or will be out of business.

heather glen

riverside no tee times needed, but usually a painfully long round, if you want a long course, play from the tips,

one thing i don,t understand is when people want to play a long course and then play from the whites.

play curruthers from the golds and you have a pretty long course.

never played either

played heather. imo, short and too hilly.

carruther is so bland. imo.

any opinions on parkshore or markham green?

dont forget Carruthers Creeks new 9. Plays around 3600 from the back. It has a couple of short par 4s (around 300-320yds)

but if the wind blows its a great track for the dough.

Markham green could still be outstanding. The valley was the best part of the old IBM course, and thats what they kept.

Ah I miss the old days of playing there for $6 as a junior for all day, and the Coke, burger for 10 cents after 18.

AND THAT WAS IN 1986!!

Try STONEHENGE near Bowmanville. A little on the outskirts of GTA but it's a GREAT 9 hole track!!! Opened in July of 2004. I played it a month after it opened and I swear it had been there 5 years. Fairways and Greens were great...ll the rough had grown in...none of the bare lumpy patches you get at most new courses (Watson Glen when it opened, Carruthers Creek, Lindsay etc..). This course is in awesome shape...and a great layout..it really is a shame that it's not 18 holes...yet...

Peel Village in Brampton is my favorite 9 hole course that is close to the GTA. Stanely Thompson designed the 18 hole course it in 1926 and I think a couple of the holes are still original. It's mostly in a creek valley so the condition is very lush with mature trees. The only downsides are the recent change to the 7th hole (the green was quite elevated and someone living in the subdivision complained about too many balls - so they moved it down beside the fairway) - and it can sometimes take to long to play. If you get the course to yourself, there are a few great holes to empty your bag of balls on practicing your tee shots.

Definitely parkshore....havent played there this year so dont know about the condition, but I do know that every par 4 and 5 is a driver, no lay up irons....perfect place to bring out that shiny new stick......... So I just bought a new driver, and I wanna test it out. Thing is, wen I get off work tomorrow it's about 4ish, leaving me only 3-4hrs of play time. All i'm looking for is a longer 9 hole course, that can test my driver out.
