if there's such a thing as "links" style courses in the GTA... I would recommend Hockley Valley in Orangeville & Whistle Bear in Cambridge. The winds are always howling at these courses & the fescue is really thick! I guess those 2 combinations make it "links" style???
3.5 out of 5 stars.

Hello Hoz-ay...I have not been to those 2 courses you mentioned. Actually I haven't played that many courses but there was one course I played this season that seemed to me like a 'links style' course. Have you ever been to Tangle Creek? It's near Barrie. The scenery was beautiful there and it was almost enough to distract me from the tall fescue around the green and fairways. haha but there were quite a few times that I lost my ball in there. :(

Watson's glen is a mixture of links and a normal golf course......

Grey Silo out in Kitchener is another "links" style course. Check out the "course review" forums for a description.

Yeah played Tangle a couple of times this year. Good course & will only get better in time, hopefully they don't raise their price next year. I actually held my golf tournament there this year. Great customer service... all the players had a good time!

My own tournament! I hold one every year. Last year we did a food drive. This year we did a toy drive. Just a bunch of my friends & their friends & their friends come out. I set it up with the course of choice. Tell them I have so many ppl coming to play & they give me a price per player. At Tangle I managed to get the practise range, a hamburger lunch & Chicken buffet dinner for $100 per person I think... will have to look at my invoice. I also ask for $10 per person that shows up for the pot... see the "Official Introduction Thread". I do it all for fun. I also try to get give-a-ways from different companys... the company I work for gave a whole bunch of balls, tees, golf towels & hats. TD Bank gave the same, a wine company gave 2 cases of wine. My friend's startup Bartending school gave us a coupons for a free class, another buddy gave us coupons for free oil changes at his garage, Pro Golf gave us knick knacks. Its a lot of work... but a lot fo fun too.

Definitely sounds like a lot of work but a lot of fun. Btw, did you find it difficult to find sponsors? Just wondering how difficult it would for me to organize something like that. thanks.

definitely hit the company you work for first & have your friends hit their company's. also talk to "start-up" companys. good way for them to advertise for cheap. I had friends that started their own business & I hit em up for stuff. also helps if you tell these "sponsors" that you're doing it for charity, ie. food drive or toy drive.
good luck!
cheers!

Agree 100%. It's a fabulous course, and absolutely tough from the back tees (the tees I dare not play...).

Grey Silo is a good choice, but the hands down winner is Hunter's Point in Welland. Not really the GTA, but neither is Grey Silo. It's like someone was able to scoop a course out of Scotland and drop it untouched into Welland.

hwy 25 milton just north of 401, opened june 2004
looks like you're in scotland
with a byrne, fescue, pot bunkers, a railway and a huge clubhouse
only criticism is that the practice range is only 225/250 yds long
a great director of golf, John Finlayson
and cute cocktailers in mini skirt kilts.............................:D

Hunters Pointe is a fun course, and next to insane when the wind is blowing. Another links style course is Devil's Paintbrush which has an amazing view and is tough as nails when the wind is up. (Link (http://www.devilspulpit.com/html/paintbrush00.html))

Devils Paintbrush is private is it not? Or is it part of ClubLink? Looks like an amazing course. Looking at these sites just makes me want to play so badly now.

There is a new course opening in Mississauga that promises to be a great links style course, it's where the old Britannia Hills used to be and it's now called BraeBen, I play the 9 home executive that they have a couple of times a week and you can see some of the holes. Looks nice, they will open to the public this week (wednesday) I'll be checking it out and letting you know
