I know some will be pleased to read the above headline. But I was prepared as it is a tournament more bonding & drinking and other stuff then golf.... Though there is betting, cash prizes, and extras, few take it seriously as it is a boys weekend.
It is a tournament called the Bill Murray and seems especially apropos this year. Friday I read Bill's wife has filed for divorce and is saying some unflattering things and Saturday caught in a terrible downpour (lightning to boot) reminiscent of Bill caddying for the Priest in Caddyshack as we try to press on while soaked to the core.... Found out the horn had gone off three holes prior to us giving up. Anyways it clears and we finish our second 18 with everyone a little tired and frustrated with the slow group ahead (we were playing 2 threesomes a hole) as I was at the course since 11:15 and it is now approaching 8:40 pm.
So yes my spouse knew I was out and wasn't expected home 'til late Saturday and I did survive ridiculously long rounds, partners seemed to enjoy my company (though you'll have to ask them).... And yes I had to run out of there yesterday as it was 9:20 and I wanted to be back from Niagara Falls before 11:00.
So is it enough that I got those dreaded 6:30 round of golf? No, Thursday I get the call to play a Private Toronto course Friday morning and on the course Friday I get a call that I have an open invite Sunday morning at another top end course if available.... No because I am playing Niagara Falls Country Club, which is probably below Banty's Roost on the TGN golf scale......
BTW I had a lot of fun regardless....

Do you mean the private course in NY? Niagara Falls CC is an AW Tillinghast course, the same designer who did Bethpage and Winged Foot.

Oops... No Niagara Falls Golf Club...... Who's best quality to those who actually would play it and drink copious amounts is it's proximity (walking distance) to the Niagara Ballet, otherwise known as the Sundowner and Seductions....
And no 6.5 hour rounds are not fun.... Accaptable a few times a year when it is a Charity event, but that is it...

No, I somehow think he means this one.
Niagara's answer to Banty for sure. The back-up starts on the first hole!

We often play our annual tourney at niagara falls golf club. no they are not glen abbey but no they are not banty's. They have a pretty laid back attitude and staff are good and course is cheap.
They are also open yr round which is a plus.
I admit though anthony you had me confused when you said country club vs golf club. I thought i must have missed playing the deluxe version:$

Last year at an HP golf tournament. 8 hours. They had something going on at almost every hole. At one hole it was backed up 6 groups because there was a tent setup where a woman was giving golfers massages. Most holes had alchohol being served. I didn't mind because it was work related.
I went out with my wife yesterday and got caught behind some very very slow golfers. It should have taken us 3 hours to finish but we were out there for 5. I complained aboutit for a minute but then resigned my self to the fact that it was going to be a long round. No sense fuming the whole round about it.

Charity tournaments I get and expect 6 hours if they have the full 144... If they have stuff on each holes that adds to it too, but often it can be fun.... Also if a scramble it is what it is. Then you have the dinner and prizes, that can make it worse if they do the 1 hour reception, then dinner and speches and please no "live auction"....
A round with friends though and 5 hours does get frustrating.
