10 years ago two of us started up the employee golf tournament here at work. It was a 4 person scramble event with a steak dinner and prizes. We were able to do this rather cheaply too. The event was a great success and gained in popularity.:)

After a few years my buddy left the organization for another job leaving me to organize and run the event on my own. This is when the trouble began. :(

The first thing I noticed is that eveyone likes to play but no one was interested in helping organize it. Also a number of employees who were not avid golfers would grumble that the course was too hard and they never had a chance to win.

They had the same opportunity to put together a competetive 4some as the rest but they chose to play with their friends who were also not good players. Also I don't recall anyone complaining about the prizes they won. (the prizes where given out by lottery except for the winning 4 some and the individual prizes for men and women).

Eventually I grew tired of it and told the grumblers to take it over which they did. Their first move was to change courses to a local cow pasture of a 9 hole track  while at the same time increasing the fee and decreasing the meal.

Well the event took place this week and it has degenerated into a golf outing for WOMEN only. They didn't keep score and the prizes where given out based on "best dressed team".

So are the current organizers "happy" with their new format/venue and the eventual resulting outcome? It's amazing that there are so many people who KNOW they can do it better, and when they have to put up or shut up manage to end up with something that's FUBAR!

They think it's good but the participants don't agree.

This is when you get the highest ranking manager/executive who plays golf involved....

That sounds like whoever has taken over didn't want the tournament to happen at all. Just a day of playing (?) golf with as few people around as possible. If that's what they wanted, then just book a couple of tee times at a cow pasture course and leave the tournament alone.
