Never thought I would ever ask this question, but after hitting my new irons...nnnaaaaawwww, there cant be such a thing as too much distance!! These new sticks are amazing! They go high, and looooonnnngggg. I picked up approx 1.5 clubs on my irons! They are super easy to hit to boot! Could it be the shafts?

I compared my old faithful Armour 845silverback combos which I could hit fairly long to begin with...8 iron typically 150-155, etc, etc. Now I took the new 8 iron out side by side and would knock it stiff on the 150 flag at the range with the old iron...and the new 8 was flying the green. What gives...pulled out 9 iron and they hit off the back half...PW on the front half! My 6-iron USED to be my 180 club....but this new thing goes forever on a nice high/flat trajectory. Absolutely amazing clubs...never thought I would own a set of Taylormades. But these irons, R7 TP's pimped out with KB Tour shafts from swainer are rocket launchers!

Sorry, I just cant get over how easy, high, long this set is. Just to check...my gap wedge fits pretty good in there as it was fairly close to the old PW, just have a half decent size gap from GW to SW.....guess you cant have it all.....or could I?:cookoo:

I've noticed the shaft makes all the difference. I'm the same way, my instructor said i'm loading my new shaft allot better. Same loft and i'm getting a 5-10 yard more distance.

Lol...glad to hear you're enjoying your new irons. Are you sure they aren't bent to have less loft?? ;)

But as for the answer to the thread title....No...there's no such thing as "too much distance"...only poor course management.

Maybe the markers were a little off at the range... Just kidding, I wish my 6 iron would be my 180 club...I'm taking my set back to Jeffs WTF!!

Shill!!!!

LOL, actually, I bought the clubs from another member...who had the work done by Swaain. Your just jealous because you have to hit a 7-iron where I hit a PW. :p

All kidding aside, its the number of strokes on the card at the end of the round that matter...not how far you hit the ball. BUT, being able to hit the ball a little farther and less club into the green cant be that bad.

I believe the actual lofts of my OLD set are stronger than the lofts of the R7 TPs, they were the last time I had them checked anyway...which was 2* stronger than standard. Now the R7's are going significantly farther.

I'm just happy with the new sticks....

There is never a such thing as to much distance, you just have to used to them. Were you Amours fitted for you?? I know when I got fitted it added 15 yards to my sticks

I suggest that you think about this post next time you are short on your approach shot to the green :)

Yeah there is such a thing as too much distance.
TGN'r Albatross and his stats:
driver 300-400 yards.
7 iron 200 yards
1-120 yards ? ? ? no club, his lob goes 130

mongo no likes the awkward distances....

Oh I know, people like him hit it a long way, but you need to learn how to hit those shorter shots. I can see if someone was hitting their sandwedge 200 yards then it you can say that, but until then I disagree, also who says every shot has to be hit at 100%

The R7 TP cavities are known for being an extra club longer Samick....so you aren't nuts.

Ask Scott about Bouche (his opponent in Belleville) and see if he thinks there is such a thing as too much distance. :)

actually I've seen "too much distance"... I played in Singapore with a guy who used to be on the PGA tour (albeit at the bottom end and lost his tour card) and we were playing a course we didn't know. At the first tee, he asks the caddy, "any water or bunkers?" ... she says no. He kills it 350 yards down the middle, caddy nearly pees her pants in shock, and off we go. finally once we get up there she explains there actually IS water, but it was 340 from the tee and she's never seen anyone hit that far, ever, so she never mentioned it. So it's in the lake. Same thing happened to him all day, he lost 6 balls and shot 73. So yeah, if you don't know the course and you hit like that, too much length can be a problem. A problem I would love to have though. the guy was hitting 8 irons while i hit 3 irons from the same distance...

Ummmm, yea, thanks for the advice....I think I'll be ok though.;)

Thanks....they are pretty hot, for an iron. Hard to believe your eyes at first though.

In a word, no.

As for your new sticks versus old, make sure you're doing a loft for loft comparison. Also, thin faced irons should be longer than thick faced, loft for loft.

Hmm...yes and no. Distance is great IF you can control the short game. That being said, if I had Bouches' distance I'd be a +1.
