Based on your occupation when can you typically golf?
Note, not based on your choice of when to golf but what your job
or business can allow.

I picked 3rd option because of two primary reasons:
I. business-related golf
II. lots of vacation days that I need to use up or lose them
Does that mean I actually do it? Yes to I. A few times per summer for II.

I'm self employed with absolutely no boss to rag on me, so I play during the week. You get spoiled with the super pace so crowded weekends aren't on the schedule.

Self employed so I play whenever, wherever I am when I pass a course that strikes my fancy. And wallet!!:p

Ditto....I tend to just practice on the weekends though I might play late in the day on a Sunday as my course is generally vacant.

I forgot to mention that I have a system with my secretaries. They tell anyone who calls while I'm golfing that I'm on a course today. My golfing clients know the truth and don't mind, and my non golfing clients think I'm the most educated Realtor in town.:D

I had to pick No. 1, with an *. I work for an engineering firm and with construction season going full bore from spring to fall, I work 7:30 am to 6:00 pm and golfing thru the week doesn't work. Usually too late and too tired to get cleaned up and go golfing. Weekends only for me. So far this year, with crappy weather on most past weekends, I have managed to get my golf down to $400.00/ round. I usually play lots in September and October and probably end the year with 40 rounds, which equates to $60.00/ round. So that's not too bad.

Im lucky enough to work shift. 4 days on 4 days off so I usually get out 2-3 times a week. Avoid weekends most of the time.

number 1 was the most applicable to me. However, as long as I work 8 hours a day my client/boss doesn't mind when I work them. So i show up really early some days so that i can break out in the early afternoon and go golfing.

There are a surprising number of #2 (play whenever I want) choices? My only guess, since most of the mainstream people I know work 9-5 is that this forum is not visited by casual fans of golf who only play once or twice a season, but diehards.
I think diehards whether by design, personality or default have fallen into businesses, self employment, or career decisions that allow them to pursue their passion in the limited season we have for golfing.
Has to be something along those lines when so far more people can play whenever they want vs your typical 9-5.

When I consider my career at IBM versus my current self employment, it's like night and day. The feeling of absolute freedom is fabulous. I didn't think of golf when I chose my current job, but in retrospect I might have , knowing what I know now. I think I'll go ask my boss if I can tee it up at 2:30. Oops never mind, I haven't got one of those.

Choice #1, weekends only for me with the exception of weekdays when I am on vacation.
