I was golfing a late evening round, starting at quarter after six last night. I was playing a solid round, going bogey, par, bogey, par, par, par, when I noticed on the 7th after my tee shot I was missing my headcover for a new Titleist hybrid 585.H. I'd only had the club for about 2 weeks, and to see the headcover missing in my bag sort of shook me up. I played the hole brutally, double bogey on a three foot putt that just barely snuck in the side door...

2 holes behind me a young couple (maybe in their early 20s...)not good golfers at all, were playing, evidently just for the fun of being outside and walking the course. I was prepared to go back and retrace my steps to find this missing headcover at the end of my round, when I was heading up to the 8th tee box, I see the guy from the twosome behind me running up to me, with my headcover in hand, saying it had fallen out of my bag a few holes back.

Whoever this guy was, I was very appreciative of him not only returning the clubhead, but actually catching up to me to give it back before I left the course if I hadnt' noticed it. I felt so much better, and finished my round par birdie!

I've found my fair share of headcovers on the course, and always pass them off to the marshall driving by, or leave them in the clubhouse for the person to claim later. I've also been paired up wtih people who play lower end, or wal-mart bought clubs, with taylormade headcovers on their cheap 40$ drivers, or have rossa headcovers protecting their zellers bought wilson putters..Clearly these people jsut found a stray headcover on the course and slipped it over their own clubs. In any case, thanks to the guy who was nice enough to be honest and return what was mine.

I won't be too quick to judge...you can always buy these brand name head covers at GT or other retail stores for cheap.

I know a lot of people who play discount store golf equipment but don't mind buying a TaylorMade head cover for $10. As far asa they are concerned, that is good enough for them to satisfy their vanity. This is just like why people buy fake designer hand bags; very similar mentality.

I found a nice new Cleveland sand wedge on the driving range at Ballantrae yesterday. As tempting as it is, it's not right and I hope when I lose a club, it will be returned. It was a lefty anyhow lol

Yeah good people are still out there. Just remember next time, it's people like the ones you mentioned who aren't very good at golf, that more advance golfers, like you, swear at if they hold you up at a course. I'm not saying you do, but I just noticed that it will only be the more experienced golfers who would ride my tail when I'm at a course.

Call me an optimist, but I beleive most people are good and most people would have at least given the cover to the marshall or clubhouse. I am happy you got it back but not surprised at all.

I must admit, I'm not terribly surprised either.

Judging by the piles of stuff I have seen in the lost and found at various golf courses (I have a tendency to lose things) a lot of people are turning in a lot of stuff.

Funny story...the last time I lost something it was an old shorty putter...maybe an old Northwestern or something. No real value but whenever I started struggling on the greens I would pull it out cuz I felt it got me closer to the ball etc...

So...I lose it...and I go to the proshop to see if someone turned it in...
The lost and found was a big box in the back and I wasn't allowed back there...I couldn't really describe it beyond the fact that it was short and old... (in retrospect I'm lucky he didn't bring out the cook).

So the pro goes back and grabs all the putters...and brings them out and asks me if any of them are mine...lol
At this point I could easily have looked at the 2 or 3 name brand putters that he had, picked one and said, "yep...that ones mine"...and gotten a new putter.

I didn't, of course, but I left thinking how terribly trusting the pro was and how honest I was...or maybe we were both just naive.

Ironically...I never got that putter back... although I think it's sitting in a buddies golf bag somewhere.

Played at a members club on a Sunday and was pretty much empty. There was a group a few holes behind and a group of two teens behind us. On the 7th my playing partner realizes he left his Callaway Hawkeye PW on the 5th green. We go back and it's gone. The group behind us is gone and it was never returned. This at a private members club.

Some of you guys are way too young to start thinking the world is going to hell. Okay, maybe it is, but at the same gradual speed as it always was.

There are good people out there but not enough.
My wife came out of a shopping mall on Saturday to find most of the front bumper on her car half ripped of. The head light was displaced and front fender scraped and dented. No note was left and the security cameras were pointed in the wrong direction. The car is being fixed but we are out the full amount of the deductible because there were no witnesses. To make things worse I was out of town, and our autistic son was at a friend's house 20 kilometers away. Another son needed a ride home from work.
All in all not her most enjoyable day.
So people will do nice simple things like return a head cover but when it comes to acts that cost them something giid things happen less often.

Sad but true, we hope everyone is honest, but it seems if folks can "get away with it", they'll do it & keep doing it!!!:(:$

The other day, I left my laser rangerfinder on the ground and the group behind me (2 holes back) drove up and gave it to me. Those things aren't cheap and the fact that they returned it puts me of the same frame of mind as TorontoDude and others. Most people are honest - and I hope golfers are more honest than most.

Yikes...that was lucky...

Did they know what they were returning?

I like to think that golfers are generally more honest..especially when it comes to found equipment. I think it comes from knowing full well that they will lose something at some point and don't want to mess up their karma :)
