Have you even come across a situation where you're on the green but your ball is right up against the first cut of the apron or your ball is on the apron and up against the rough? Here's a good tip I read in a magazine. Instead of using your putter try using a wedge or a wood. This lessons the chance of grass catching your putter and slowing it down or directing it off your putting line. If you're using a wedge, aim the bottom of your wedge to hit the equator of the ball and if you're using a wood, use it like a putter. I tried this a few times this season and it helps. Might save you a stroke or two!

done both of them and would have to favour the wedge. due to the extra length of the woods, it makes the putting stroke very awkward.

I've also used wedges in situations like Focker explained....works very well for me.....most of the time...:$

Good tip. With a little practise this works great. Any good pro will tell you the faster you can get the ball on the ground the more predictable the roll. Using a wood does just that. I play occassionaly with a couple and the lady loves this shot. Her husband can't hit it. She practices the shot, he doesn't.
If the distance from the ball is effecting your feel, don't be afraid to grip down on the shaft. Try it for 20 minutes 5 times a week for a month, then put iit n play the next time your faced with a chip with nothing between you and the hole but green. Surpirsed the heck out of me on how well it worked.
