The Toronto Branding Project team trying to develop a remarkable brand strategy for Toronto that will create a fresh new way of communicating the city's strong and dynamic identity to the rest of the world. They want to create a new strong Toronto brand.

Strong brands are built on a foundation of truth. Speaking with the people of Toronto will help us discover what makes Toronto different, better, special and distinct from other cities of the world.

"We Are Toronto" kicked-off on November 9th and will run until the end of December. The initiative invites Toronto residents to submit answers to seven key questions each week. A new question will be featured every week.

Log onto www.wearetoronto.ca (http://www.wearetoronto.ca/) to answer these questions.
Providing answers will help them to get a better picture of Toronto today, as well as give them an idea of what the public wants the city to become in the future.
So lets all think about how we would define and promote Toronto's distinct identity.
I think Toronto is a world-class city. So lets help the world discover the real Toronto!
What comes to your mind when you think of Toronto? Are we a major global tourist and business destination?

It's all part of a larger effort to define and promote Toronto's distinct identity and to raise Toronto's profile as a major global tourist and business destination.

Toronto is a world-class city and we want the world to know. If you agree, you can help the rest of the world discover the real Toronto by doing your part!
This is neat, where did you hear about this? My prof at UofT did a Branding Canada initiative a few years back.

The biggest thing that comes to mind is multiculturalism, where people are curious and accepting of each other's different cultures... well, most people.

This week's question is: Different cities offer different experiences. What do you think makes being in Toronto a unique experience?

I had a harder time with this one. Because as a resident of Toronto I will have a unique experience different from a tourist of Toronto. I was really tempted to write about my unique Golf experiences though...hehee.

The link doesn't work anymore. Perhaps Toronto should be recognize as a World class city with the likes of London, New York, Tokyo.

Ok...just noticed that the thread is from last year..LOL

Did some research and here's the result:

As soon as the Torontonians stop suffering from New York-envy, Toronto will be a world class city.

I lived in NYC before, their spirit is to be the best NYC they can be. Rather than worrying about who other cities think of them.

Thank you Westbeach for posting the updated link and Toronto's newly branded name. According to their website it took them 13 months, 250 interviews, 4,500 contributions from Torontonians, and 14 focus groups in 3 countries. Do you think they did a good job? I don't like the new TO logo.

Just think about what Toronto Unlimited sounds like to a foregin country where the native tongue is not English. I suppose it can create some short term buzz in US and some western Europe countries. But to say that it really advertise Toronto to the whole world, I think it is a stretch.

'Unlimited' implies 'every thing goes'. Does that mean people can come here and smoke pots legally like they can in Armesterdam? Does this mean people can drink past 2 am?

This sounds more like a search for identity for the few lost and confused souls in the government.

As for the campaign. The logo looks like some sort of municipal waste management facility trying to remake itself to soften their image. It looks more like a logo design contest for high-schoolers.

Whover the brain child behind this probably would have been fired by The Donald if they come up with this in the show.

Toronto Unlimted, Duh!

Don't forget the $4million cost associated with researching, developing and implementing the brand. $1m was dedicated for coming up with the name.
