Anyone out there had it done?

I am contemplating having this done but I am usure of the costs and if anyone has had any side effects from the procedure.

I know tiger has done it and many others, so why not me.:p

I am just tired of my glasses and would not mind being able to see with out them. And it would help if I could ever find my contact case as well.

I looked into it last year. I was ready to commit to the procedure but checked with my eye doctor for a final few questions. Turns out that I was suitable for the surgery (not everyone is), but my Rx would have been reversed. That is, I'd be able to see clear distances without glasses, however I'd now need reading glasses (something I hadn't needed before). I weighed these factors and decided against it. Apparently the surgery whereby both distance and reading can be fixed in one shot is upon us, but my doc suggested I wait until five years pass just to make sure there are no complications with this procedure (being a newer surgery).
As for price, I was quoted around $7000. There is a scale depending on what level of a "fix" you need or want. Ask for the latest technologies. TLC and the like offer free consultations without obligation and it takes about two hours. However, if you make an appointment make one also with an independent eye doctor. Don't mess with your eyes. Be sure.
Hope this helps. As someone who has had to wear glasses on the course since I was a kid, I think I know where you're coming from. Be cool just once to wear sunglasses...not Rx sunglasses.
Good luck...

I had it done 20 months ago and would do it again.

Since one of my eyes was pretty good (20/25) I only had one eye corrected and it cost me $1000.

I have noticed that my close-up vision has changed, not so much that I need glasses but it is a little different. I am at the age when your close-up vision starts to go but I think the surgery may have sped up the process by a year or two.

my auntie did it....after the surgery, she couldn't go out in the sun for a few weeks, and constantly had to put eyedrops for a few weeks...

like others too, her close up reading changed a little, but long distance vision is perfect..

dunno the price tho..this was like 4-5 years ago

swaain..

Best money I ever spent.
No reprecussions and even the much talked about side effect of night glare being a bit worse, hasn't bothered me in the 3 years since i had it performed.

As for where I had it performed..

My only regret... waiting as long as I did to have it performed.

Is it true that afterwards, there is a risk your eye's may eventually get worse again?

Is it true that afterwards, there is a risk your eye's may eventually get worse again?Sure, with the natural aging process.

I was told that once I hit 50, I might need reading glasses...

Much like most seniors do eventually...

But if you were asking if the eyes would over time revert back to their pre-surgery condition... the answer as far as I was told is no.

My sister had it done probably 4 years ago. She had really bad eyes (around -800 or so), and now she is almost perfect (probably under -100). Being very much into sports, there is a lot of benefit for her. I'm planning on doing it in the next 5 years or so, but I'm waiting to see if I can get a better benefits package from work to cover it. :D

I had glasses/contacts, hated them, the foggy glasses, sitting on them, dry eyes with contacts, rain on glasses golfing. Out at a bar by 1 am I wanted to tear them out. Even though my prescription wasn't super strong, so I had it done 3 months ago.

I moved from GTA last fall to Kingston so I had it done in town at LASIK MD. I am the type to do alot of research. I got to pick my doctor, he comes in from Ottawa regularly on procedure days. He was peter agipatous (probably spelled it wrong).

My research showed he was head of opthamology in Ottawa had been on various US boards as chief, had done 40,000 procedures including thousands of corneal transplants.

Only side effect I have had is some residual haze that takes 6 wks to several mths to heal. It's almost gone. Just gives me that feeling that vision is sharp but just a touch very very slightly off in distance. Additional procedure if needed is free in plan i bought but they said it would diminish and some heal faster/slower. They were right as now any night glare is gone, and that haze feeling is almost completely gone.
Near sighted people having correction will change their reading. Doesn't mean you need reading glasses, it just means I can't hold a book now 2 inches from my face, it must be normal distance. They explained that it is not that procedure makes your close vision bad, its that I shouldn't naturally have vision that allows you to put something 2 inches from your face.

My co-worker had it done, paid $6000 at bouchner eye institute in toronto.
I paid $2100 including lifetime eye coverage.
When he heard how little I paid he said it must be with a scary doctor, when I told him about the research i did, he had no answer for the $4000 difference.

I now see 20/20 in right, almost 20/15 in other.

Get it done. If you want Lasik MD I believe they are a chain and located in GTA. Their montreal location is the original and has been doing this for many years. They have a good reputation despite being one of the cheaper one's.

I must warn you of a few side effects though if I am honest!!!!!!
1) I find all my friends balls when looking in rough, darn!
2) My game has improved by approx 5 strokes, now friends won't play me straight up anymore.
3) You will experience confusion constantly trying to reach for glasses on bedside night table that no longer exist. Then realize you can read the alarm clock on the other side of the room.
If you think of doing it and want to ask me anymore questions pm me.

Hope this helped. Do it. You will not believe what freedom it gives.

TLC is where I had my eyes done about 5 months ago and it was definitely a good choice for me. I don't want to knock LasikMD, because for some people that may be the right choice for them. But I wouldn't trust them with a ten foot pole. Anyone wants to learn more of the differences between the higher end places like TLC, Bochner, Herzig etc and LasikMD feel free to PM me. There is a difference why one place is $400/eye versus $2800/eye.

BBG,

I wouldn't mind learning some more about your research. My sister did her's at TLC, and that's where I was considering going, but I'm still a few years away from doing it anyways.

Best money I ever spent. Done about 6 years ago and no issues. I would highly recommend:

He's not cheap, but why mess around with your eyes to save a few bucks?

why mess around with your eyes to save a few bucks?

Exactly. Same thing with golf gear. Why go to Walmart to get your cheap stuff. (not that's there anything wrong with that for some people) But go to GT, Angus Glen (Swaain) or where ever to get the good stuff.

Most people here don't cheap out on their golf, so why cheap out on their eyes? Your eyes are probably one of your most important thing to consider when your out playing golf.
