What is the proper rules or even etiquette to take if I hit my tee shot and it lands on the fairway of another hole? Can I play the ball as it lies, or do I have to take any penalties or re-hit my shots?

I believe you may play as your ball lies if you're on another fairway because its not OB or any type of hazard. In terms of etiquette you should make sure there is nobody about to tee off or hit their ball on that particular hole. Just wait till they hit or if they wave you on then go ahead and play. If you pick up your ball then obviously you incure a penalty. If you re-tee your shot you would incure a 1 stroke penalty.

happened to me before also. just make sure you call fore when your ball is heading towards the another hole's fairway. also, take a look around before you walk onto another fairway, getting conked in the head is not a forgiving experience :S

If there are no OB stakes, then you can play the ball from another fairway.

definitely have to be careful when your ball lands on someone else's fairway.....esp. if it's someone else's ball who probably is jumping for joy that they got it on the fairway and then someone picks it up....

Thanks GP64! I hope that after taking lessons before the start of next golf season I will hit straighter shots that keep me off the other fairways. :$

I have actually played a course that has a local rule that if you hit your ball onto another fairway you get the option to bring it back to the point it left your fairway penalty free. I think it's Ironwood in Exeter but i'm not sure. Sounds great in theory except that all day long people try to kill balls all over the place cause they no they get a free drop. This makes for a pretty dangerous round.

You know you're a wild player when not only do you hit it into an adjacent fairway, but you've done that so many times that you know the exact yardage from various points in the other fairway back to the green you are playing to! Certainly there are a few holes at my club that many members (including myself) know the yardage from adjacent fairways quite well :P
