For those that have played the two 18s here, how are they? Worth the cost of initation (20k)?

Also, if you've played the other London private courses, how does Sunningdale stack up?

Thanks

it'd be tough to beat the Hunt Club. DOn't know the difference in price though, and have never played Sunningdale.

I think this question all depends on what you want out of your membership.

If you are golfer only and don't care for a high profile clubhouse my vote goes to St. Thomas with its 7Kish initiation fee. Pure golf, great golf course, nice conditions

If the clubhouse is a major selling feature to you Sunningdale's is very new. The old course is in my opinion the only real reason to join. It is a good golf course with good conditions.

If you are rolling in money The Hunt is your choice. 40K + initatiation (not sure of exact figure) gives you best of both worlds club house and golf course. The golf course is really nice with exceptional conditioning.

Try each of them out before doling out your money and see which one you like best.

I've never played it but play with a guy that plays it once and month he prefers over the hunt club. Two championship 18's (Stanley Thompson and Robinson) compared to one. I've walked the Hunt Club and I found it boring to me. I've never played it but big greens don't interest me.

Sunningdale is always in pretty nice shape, but not a hard course at all

It somewhat depends upon where you live in the city and how far you want to drive to get to the course.

Sunningdale IMO ranks after London Hunt Club.

In terms of the other private courses in London I'd rank Sunningdale below London Hunt and on a parallel with The Oaks.

Sunningdale has 36 holes and with the Oaks you also reciprocal rights to play Firerock.

After that there's West Haven (not by much).

Then there's Union (St. Thomas), the dues are low, but are likely to rise, once they finally build a long overdue clubhouse. IMO - Union is the best golf course of any of the above.

Then there's Highland and Greenhills.

Highland has tiny greens and isn't the most exciting course in the world to play.

Greenhills isn't the greatest course in the world either, but it is a challenge and of course it is a Clublink course and the initiation compared to the GTA Clublink courses is like stealing. I also prefer Greenhills over a number of the other GTA Clublink courses ..... I'm not particularly found of playing golf in someones backyard (save and accept the 2nd hole....:D)

Sunningdale is north of town, West Haven is northwest of town, London Hunt is on the west side of town, Greenhills in the southwest corner of town and Highland is in the south central part of town. Last and not least Union is 30 minutes to the south towards St. Thomas.

Have fun!

I could be wrong, but I believe you still pay a cart fee at Firerock, despite your membership at the Oaks. For myself anyway, the mandatory cart part of Firerock is playing a part in me not really liking the Oaks as an option. Part of the reason to join a club for me anyway is that I don't have to deal with the mandatory cart BS, so as nice as Firerock is, that turns me off some towards that deal.

St Thomas would be a great choice but it's just too far of a drive for me for the number of times I would be playing.

Greenhills you run the risk if heavy rains come you lose your golf course for a week or two. It floods often if it was in TO right now you would need a scuba gear to play the game.
