Does anyone have info on Shawneeki in Newmarket?
I'm there on Saturday. Strangely, I don't know anyone that knows it.
I see on the card that there is a 600 yard par 5 from the golds.....

I played it a couple of times last year, but haven't played this year so can't comment on current conditions. I know they were during some construction on the course, not sure if complete yet.
I always found the course a tough test, greens were always lightening fast.
Yes, #8 is a monster, even playing from the Blues (probably 550-560 yards). Downhill tee shot, but a watch out for the stream at the bottom. Then back uphill into the green.
If you want more details, let me know...

How would you rate its "walkability"?
One of our group is an older gentleman, who prefers to walk.
(even though he shouldn't on some courses).

Shawneeki is Walkable for me....
...that would be Walkable for just about anyone else! ;)

Funny I was just about to start a thread on this course. I've never played it either but a friend of mine just down hwy 9 wants to play a round next week.
It does seem like a longer course than I'm used to but is the length and fast greens the real challenges? Anything else? Tight fairways? Lots of water?
EDIT:
I notice they have really cheap green fees after 6pm. Possible to get 18 on this course in before the dark? Especially now that the days seem to be getting shorter already :(

It depends on which 9 you play as far as "tightness" goes. One of the 9's starts off with a "very" tight fairway and the rest of that 9 isn't much more open.
Personally, I haven't played it in a few years so I can't comment on the conditions.

I played there a little over a month ago. It was in pretty good condition from what I remember. Some holes are definately pretty tight, but for the most part I believe the fairways are pretty forgiving. Outside of the fairway, you have a lot of mature trees to contend with.
From a walkable perspective, I don't see any problems. There's about 2 or 3 holes that go into a valley and back up, but other than that... no problems.
My only issue with the course is the cost, which is a bit overpriced IMHO.
Enjoy the round.

Very fast greens.
Some holes are a bit mickey mouse.
Some holes can be very tough from the gold tees
Very walkable.
Good value for the money

$68 is too expensive?
Where else would you suggest in the Newmarket area?
Silver Lakes? Pheasants Run? Both are around $90.

I find Shawneeki more comparable (course wise) to Cardinal then it is Silver Lakes or Pheasant Run.

I golf Shawneeki quite often.
Definitely walkable.
The big par 5 is a great hole... just don't go right or you're done.
The last 3 holes are STILL under construction and are a bloody mess.
Great course otherwise though.

Has anyone been to the range here yet? I noticed on their event board it's now open. Grass/mats? Bunkers?

If I recall correctly, they've got a few mats and grass on the range, not sure about the bunkers.
That course should be primo right now, just like all the rest.
The rain has really helped out courses like Shawneeki which don't have the maintenance standards that the higher end courses have because mother nature has been doing a lot of the work for them.
