I've always enjoyed playing Tangle Creek. This course is always being trashed aroud here, but I've never seen an explanation as to why. Forget the fees. I only want your opinion about the course.

The PEOPLE don't like #7, I don't mind it! ;)

I too enjoy the course - I don't mind 7 either...though it was the end of a great round for me my first time there - was 1 under heading there (my previous best round ever had been an 82).

not bad, not great...couple odd holes...given the competition/collection of courses these days no real reason to go back IMO for this GTAer.

Too many really bad holes . like 7 and 18. Also a few so so holes. Today there are many many courses that are better and better value. in Barrie Heritage Hills is a nicer course than Tangle Creek for less money

Whats wrong with #7 and #18/ Nice cut the corner Par 5s...who wouldnt like the opportunity to get to a Par 5 in two?
Havent played there in a couple of years but thought it was a good course...

Always enjoyed the course, can't please everyone. Good deal on now for $65 cart in.
Don't listen too much here, spend the $$ and see for yourself. I've been going since it's start and the condition is always good.
If you don't go you will always wonder what you missed.:)

18 is a drive and a sand wedge for a PAR 5 if you cut the corner enough. That is wrong

I do agree that 18 is a bit of a letdown, but aside from that, I like the course a lot. Would be nice if they could redesign 18 to make it a more picturesque and challenging hole. I do not really like finishing on that note.

Don't mean to jump on you here leftyflamingo (as I come here a lot to read but rarely post) but you've made some interesting comments that aren't fair to those who haven't played Tangle Creek.
Firstly, if you can drive and then hit a sand wedge to #18 then you are playing from the wrong tee decks. I don't know a single person who can do that now from the new back tees (two years old?). I guess if you can hit your sand wedge 200 yards you can do it.
Second point, Heritage Hills is a decent golf course but in no way would I rank it better than Tangle Creek. Tangle's conditions are much better (older than Heritage), the clubhouse and facilities blow Heritage out of the water (if you care about this), Tangle has GPS and Heritage has loud gas powered carts, Tangle is much more demanding (again depends on the tees), and Tangle requires you to use more clubs than does Heritage (again depends on the tees).
I have to agree with hannah try it for yourself and be the judge. I've played them both and they are both good golf courses.

well said and I agree
nothing qrong with TC , yes 18 is a short par 5..
many people who dont like it are the ones who were eaten up by the numerous hazards..........which means that they just found it too hard for their game
it is a good challenge, in good shape, okay value wise and can play tough if you are not wise
I always play well there so like it
and I have never seen driver wedge to 18 and I am a 7 cap and have played with several similar cappers there....5 iron yes.....if the wind is from the North maybe a 7 to a front pin.

AQnd if you live in Barrie you will realize that the wind is generally with you on that hole. i have played with many people on that course who can hit it with a driver sand wedge. I find heritiage Hills a much better course than Tangle. Terryfox I play the golf course for the golf course, and could not care a less about the clubhouse.
Tangle Creek would be a much better course if they reversed the nines. 10 would make a nicer starting hole.
And I have not played the course in two years as I refuse to go back due to the 18th. Further, there are lots of people on here that have problems with Tangle Creek. I think there are much better value course in Ontario for the money. I prefer Lora Bay as an example and I paid the same money to play it as people pay at Tangle.

changing the routing would be an idea so as to not leave you with wtf after 18
I have not played Tangle in a 1.5 seasons but yes it is not in the same class as Lora Bay... but Lora Bay is 2x as much to play
checked the rates at both and
Lora Bay is $150 7-11
$120 11-1
$105 1-3
$65 after 3
Tangle is $75 prime time so 1/2 Lora Bay
$65 after noon
and $45 after 3:pm
lets not represent the facts just because you dont like the course...........I bought 4 passes for Eagles Nest off ebay last year and it only cost me $75 a round........same as Tangle Creek:nono:
but prime rate is $185
Also if Lora Bay were as close to the GTA as Tangle it would be a $200 course
as for driver sand wedge on 18.........mayve if you play the Ladies tees.......the hole is 552 from the back tees where we play and some of our guys will play gold at 514.....I have a driver ss of 110-115 mph and can hit the ball pretty long ( 270 or so average) and have guys I play with hit it further than me and cannot recall having hit anything less than a 5i in.........although I will hit 3 wood when it is down wind to not go through the fairway.
I suppose if you were playing the white or ladies tees and aimed well right to cut the trees (and got lucky) to clear the trees.......maybe a shorter iron.
having played there enough and with some guys that mash the ball, one guy even drove it on 10th green from the golds ( believe it or not) and we regularly drive it on 2.....I would have to see it to believe that somebody hit driver sw on a hole well over 500 yrds down wind or not

Fair enough leftyfamingo... I also played Lora Bay and would rate it better than TC but the greens fees are MUCH higher. I would prefer to play on Kiawah Island than Myrtle Beach but that isn't a fair comparison.
It is too bad that you won't go back and try 18 again. Yes it is a birdieable hole but this isn't guaranteed (even with the wind at your back). Some of the pin placements (back or middle left) can make putting difficult. Not many can cut the corner anymore if you are playing from the correct tee decks.
I do agree that starting on the back would be a good idea as I find #10 a better warm up hole. That being said it is easier to birdie #1 than it is #10 (IMHO). They've done this in the past and I struggle more with the back than the front.
Weirfan. I too am a low handicapper and agree that people that don't like it struggle to play well there. This course can kick you in the butt if you don't think out your shots. My only compaints would be #5 and #6. If you are playing the back tees you'd better hit a long ball to carry the creek here. I hate laying up as it leaves you with a looong iron to two tough greens. Every course has to have a challenge or it can be too easy/boring (e.g. Horseshoe Valley - Valley course - too many irons of the tee and then short iron to greens).

I am a Tangle Creek hater. It is a course that shows well but disappoints you in the end. As a disclosure, I played one of my BEST rounds ever there, scoring four birdies (for those who know me, they know this is an amazing feat). And yes, I played the proper tees.
Here are my issues:
Hole 5: always plays into the wind and can be a very tough carry when the wind is blowing -- again, this is at the proper tees.
Hole 6: ridiculously short if you cut the corner. If you aren't familiar with this course, this is pretty much a "tee it up and guess" in terms of yardages (end of fairway straight plays a lot shorter than advertised).
Hole 7: the mother of all dumb holes. VERY difficult to cut the corner in the right place. It doesn't reward good tee shots. If you hit a nice drive 280 straight in the fairway, you are forced to lay up with a sandwedge to a a flat landing area. This will give you more club to the green than what you would want to hit.
Hole 11: second dumbest hole on the course. You hit it long and you are either in fescue or a valley with a downhill lie. Too short of a lay up (where its flat) and you have a super long approach shot.
Hole 13: 600 yard par five. Impossible to reach in two with the green being tucked away.
Hole 15: driver is too much, lay-up leaves you with too long of an iron.
All par 3's are pretty unforgettable.

Well said Neltron, and you left 18 out the equation. I played Lora Bay two weeks ago on a Monday. We teed up at 2 p.m. and they only charged us 65 bucks

Honestly...Im at work and dont have time to read all the posts but....I find Tangle Creek an exciting mix of holes..yes it's tough , but some of those elevated tee offs are exciting...the only basic hole is #2<<kinda dull..the greens are great fun!!!

It never ceases to amaze me how such heated arguements rise from such a simple posting. I get a real kick out of some the banter that goes back and forth. Opinions do very with each person and that to me is all. An opinion. I have played Tangle Creek a few times but not in the past two years. I am not sure what the conditions are like now but when I have played, the course seemed to be in decent shape. As far as the holes go, they really do not inspire me. Nothing really stands out but then again if I was asked to go back and play it again, I would given the right circumstances.
I guess for me, it is really up to the poster to decipher the madness and make a decision, play or not play.
It's been my experience that seeing is beliving so go play. Worst thing that can happen really is you find a track you do not like. I don't think that is all that bad. You are playing a great game, experiencing some place new and who knows you may even like it.
Just my two cents...

Don't get me wrong, I've played far worse courses and continue to play worse courses than Tangle Creek. A bad day there beats a good day at work.
The price point in my opinion is too high, especially considering the location (all specials excluded). For the distance from Toronto, a course like Copetown is less expensive and is much better value.

I felt the course is set up to hard for the average golfers. This is the reason why it is playing so slow. I played there 3 times the past couple years and haven't had a round that is under 4.5 hours. Couple of them were around the 5.5 hrs. Otherwise, it is a very nice course but a bit too far from the GTA.

I think there are enough easy holes to score well on that course. I've posted one of my best rounds there and I'm having trouble breaking 100 this year.

Don't get me wrong. Every golf course has some easy scoring hole. What I meant was there are too many holes where it would be hard for average golfers to hit their tee shot. Examples are three or four par 4's where you have to hit 200+ from the tee to carry the creek. Couple par 5's are blind with your tee shot. I found people were spending too much time looking for their balls on those holes.

Holes 5 and 7 are the only ones where you really have to carry it 200+ yards. Hole 6 you can hit a 5W 220 out and have less than 100 to the hole.

I think the course is great :) Never heard anyone trash it. the Juniors on the Bags Tour enjoyed it greatly!
