Hello all,
I will be in Vancouver for a weekend at the end of August. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a couple of good courses to play. I am looking to spend between 60-100 bucks per round. I am also looking to play courses close to downtown Vancouver within 1hr vacinity.
Thanks in advance!!!

University Golf Course is right in Vancouver. (www.universitygolf.com (http://www.universitygolf.com))
Peace Portal is south in Surrey. (peaceportalgolf.com has a video u can watch) Make sure you get off at the exit or else you'll be at the border.

Furry Creek may just be the most beautiful course I've ever played. Definitely worth a visit. It's just outside Vancouver...if I recall correctly it's no more than 45 minutes.

Cross the border into Washington State and play Shuksan G.C. Use the truck border crossing. It'll take 15 minutes once you cross the border and its well worth it.... great course at a great price!

I have played Furry Creek - the views are amazing, probably some of the best around, but be aware it's a got a lot of holes that some will say border on goofy.

one word - Northlands!
quite probably the best value in
Vancouver. Scenery was stunning, course was immaculate, one of the most memorable rounds on our golf odyssey (30 rounds in 30 days driving across the continent and back). There's one hill, up the side of a mountain with a huge waterfall by the green... awesome. And under $70 prime time.

Agreed 100%. Played it several years ago. It's a municipal course but you would never know it. Fantistic course and the price if I remember correctly was a steal.

Westwood Plateau ..... as the name suggests - on some holes you're hitting off plateaus to a fairway 300-400 feet below.

Right on...Northlands is the one to play out here...I play it everytime I come out here. Its in North Vancouver just across one of the bridges. We had to walk quickly past a black bear on the left side of the fairway sitting on a rockwall afew years ago and wait for a family of deer to cross another fairway. A couple of others to consider is Fraserview (an excellent muni) in south Burnaby. Redwoods is an excellent layout in north Surrey. If you can find a member to get you on, Shaunnessy (Cdn Open) is more than worth the guest fee.

Another vote for Northlands. Great course, great price.
I played here and Westwood Plateau last time I was out. Actually very similar courses. There is some sort of last minute type deal in BC, search the internet and you should be able to get Westwood Plateau around $90.

Vancouver Area courses I would recommend in no order:
University - Vancouver. Just played on the 13th for the first time and I know I will be back. Can be hard to get a time within the 5 days but you can pay $15 to book well in advance.
Northlands - North Vancouver, one of the hidden gems in the area. A little out of the way but great value.
Furry Creek - Sea to Sky, some people love it, some people think its gimmicky.
Northview's Ridge Course - Surrey. Best course in my area, former home to the GVO/ACC.
Westwood Plateau - Coquitlam. Really nice course but is the most expensive one on this list. The drive in rush hour from Vancouver or vice versa is a killer.
Peace Portal - Surrey. Oldie but a goodie, lies are never flat and the trees are huge.
Mayfair Lakes - Richmond. Flat and water filled but a nice course.
Fraserview - South Vancouver. Hard to get a time within the 5 day allotment but you can pay $10 extra to secure a time. ** I have not played this one.
