Ah come on Mok and Ego (and the rest of of ya), you can do better than that. What recordings would you have to have? Looking in your car or on your system at home may give ya a tip.

hmm this is a great topic Mule. I definitely enjoyed the challenge of trying to answer this one on the first try. But I listen to many types of music genres. I change music depending on my mood and to create a mood. So you can appreciate that I had to change this list many times. But in the end I chose the following CD collections...(I sort of cheated because the final total is 12!)

Shania Twain - all of her greatest hits!
Madonna - The Immaculate Collection
Dido - Life for rent
Andrea Bocelli - "The Prayer" - Sogno
Boyz 2 Men - Revolution
98 Degrees - Revelation
Alicia Keyes - Songs in a Minor & The diary of Alicia Keyes
Destiny's Child - Survivor
K-Ci & Jojo - It's Real
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head & "Yellow" from the Parachutes release

If I'm stuck on an island, I'll need a lot of variety to keep me sane. After about two weeks of these, I'll probably need another 10. I hardly ever remember song and artists names, so they're a bit vague.

1. Jackie Chan's greatest hits back in the early 90's
2. Usher, mixed songs, especially the one with Alicia Keyes and Burn
3. Madonna, mixed tracks, especially back in the 80's and Music
4. Hoobastank's The Reason
5. Avril Lavigne's I'm With You
6. Cranberries
7. Creep
8. Some Italian Opera, can't remember the name
9. Top 40 Hip Hop music right before I get stranded
10. ...

Ah a Gentleman after my own ears. Forgot how good Catherine Wheel was until I saw them on this list. RATM is in my discman as we speak, listen to it while working out at the gym. Love PJ and Tool as well but Soundgarden's Superunknown would be close to the top of this list. Once I get past the top 4 or 5 this list becomes really difficult. But I enjoy reading everyone's list.
Pearl Jam 10
U2 - Joshua Tree
Soundgarden Superunknown
The Clash - London Calling
Tool - Aenima or Undertow?
Alice in Chains unplugged (Layne Staley's voice is something else.)
Frampton Comes Alive
Something from Zep, preferably a large 4 disc complilation.
Beck - Mellow Gold.
After that it get's really difficult. But I like thinking about it.
Cheers.
Pud.

Okay now all of a sudden this thread was come alive. Now I wouldn't bet the farm on it but I've seen lists from Flogger, Fireice, Otis, El Tigre, King Cobra and Pudubny, that tell either age or musical up bringing. One way or another, it would make for great road trip music conversations.

It's a bit of both Mule. I've been playing guitar on and off for 28 yrs. Wanted to be a rock star for while then realized recreational golf is good outlet too. Not good enough to make a living at either :( but still have the passion :D .

Started when I was 14. You can do the math. Not a pup anymore but not too old too pound a few drives each round or impress my friends with with some chops on my Strat.

It would be a cool road trip... we could chat all the way to Myrtle Beach :D

Oh now you've gone and did it. Good taste and a player. First Martin I owed ('casue dad would not let me go electric) was when I was 15. Moved to my first Strat at 19. 30 years later 72 Gibson SG Cherry Standard , 58 Les Paul, 62 Telecaster, 1971 Martin D28 (orignial owner). Don't play as much I use to. Spend to much time with people that play for a living (like the guy in my avitar) and it can get depressing when he does so good, so naturally.

Now I'm totally jealous!! That's some sweet vintage gear you've got there and an envious circle of friends. My gear pales in comparison but I still love it (my friends are cool too).

For me, I've got a '79 BC Rich Mockingbird, Strat Plus (bought new in the early 90's) and Takamine acoustic. Bought a Traynor YCV80 3 years ago. All tube, great tone (IMO), great price - made right here in Pickering at Yorkville Sound. I've also let some good stuff go when I was younger (stupid kid I was) like a JCM800 half stack, Vintage Fender Twin Reverb (still cry every night over that one!!), and an SG (probably early 70's, sniff...). Sold stuff to pay for rent back then.

Haven't play much in the last year. I'm pretty much a basement player (hobbyist), jam with friends now and then - no pro gigs or anything like that. Love to crank it up and watch the neighbours on the street twist their heads around trying figure out where that wall of sound is coming from :D

When choosing a "desert island" shortlist, 2 things come to my mind: lasting and varied. Even though I too listen to a wide variety of music from progressive rock (Yes, ELP), post-punk (Clash, Joy Division) to Rap (Eminem, Roots), I find the Beatles fit this remote situation more than anyone else when you have to listen to it for years and probably won't want anything either too heavy or too shallow. :)

In no particular order:

Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Beach Boys - Pet Sounds -- I can believe no one else has mentioned this yet
-- drop some of those Zeppelin, Floyd or Prog/Corporate Rock albums and add this to the list :D

Sloan - Navy Blues
Of Montreal - Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies: A Variety of Whimsical Verse
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
The Beatles - Very hard to choose between Sgt. Pepper, Abbey Road and the White Album...it would depend on which day you asked me
Destroyer - Streethawk: A Seduction

Trying to decide on the final few would be very difficult, but some contenders would be:
Radiohead - Ok Computer
Jeff Buckley - Grace
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Stereolab - Sound-Dust
The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulliten, Clouds Taste Metallic
Ben Folds Five - Whatever and Ever Amen
Beulah - When Your Heartstrings Break
The Beta Band - Hot Shots

And I feel guilty for the numerous albums that I have neglected...
