Got tired of moving them (replaced with CD's & now mp3's):(
....and I had these 'custom designed' clear plexi crates, that were easy to 'flip thru' (I was a p/t DJ in the 80's)

I still have (1) crate of my favourites!! :)

This will really depend on the genre and the condition of the records. Just to let everyone know, LP's ( or albums ) are worth much less than 12" singles. There are different pressings ( UK or US ) and it's really confusing sometimes. PM me and let me know what you've got, and we'll talk.

Thanks

Interested in getting rid of them????

Before you ever throw vinyl out you should get yourself a copy of any of these books.
http://www.recordcollectorsguild.org/index.php?name=Sections&req=viewarticle&artid=35&page=1

I have records (33 1/3, 45's and 78's) that the covers alone are now worth $100.00's when I paid $6.00 for the music 30+ years ago. I have two that have been appraised at over $1,000.00 (they are 1940's era, autographed, playable and the musicians have passed away).
You may be shocked at what you have and even more so at what you tossed.
Oh yeah, little if any of my collection is for sale. :D

My father has a 2nd pressing of a Glen Miller collection on vinyl. I am pretty sure that must worth a fair bit to a collector.

I have some original runs of some Led Zeppelin albums. They have been played a lot and have a fair bit of scratches on them, but they are not for sale.

WHy is it old scratched Led Zeppelin albums sound better than the digital re-releases?

That is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. There are direct drive tables out there for $700. I've been a DJ for over 15 years and I guess if you don't know any better, this would be your only choice.

I haven't spun my old vinyl for a while now, no turn table. My father has a really nice one though, a Dual. SOmething about the sound of vinyl, makes it sound almost haunting. It is a different sound compared to a cassette or CD.

It's the difference between a Lada and a Porche or like playing top of the line golf gear. Cheaper stuff will get you there, but If you have the money, like some audiophiles have, then get what you want.

Well said, however I have to disagree. Tech 1200 ( if you have no idea what I'm talking about, why are we talking abou this ) are the "industry" standards and have been for 20 years. So perhaps the compairison is not like a Lada to Porshe, but from a Hummer to a Porshe.

Okay so the Lada to Porsche was a little over kill. :) But I understand what you are saying. I've been a collector for over 35 years (over 3,000 vinyls) and take great care of what my vinyl plays on. Out of the jacket, out of the sleeve on the table and back. I have a dry cleaning system for my vinyl in case I see dust. Yeah it's an addiction. :cookoo:
I owned my first Harmon Kardon system with Bose 901's, and Denon turntable in the mid 70's. I've been through about 20 of them since then. So I'm pretty sure I know just a little bit about systems.
Given that I was a sound engineer in the music business for 10 years, I'd venture to say I know a little bit more about sound than some people.
My current table cost me just under $1,000.00 including the important piece, cartridge and needle. The bounce free dampening system cost me another $100.00 (home made).
You wouldn't catch me with a $7,400.00 turntable unless I win this weeks Super7 :D

The 1200 is the Ford F-350 of turntables, rugged, reliable, but in sound quality, quite inferior to many others. They include the VPIs, SOTAs, Linn Sondek, the venerable Dual 704, Oracle Delphi and the best of the Denon direct drives. Others escape my fond memories of yesteryear.

Dam, 2 mths ago I put out 2 crates of everything from the 50's and up.
Was going to take them in to one of the stores down town and get some $$ for them but everytime I went to lift them I hurt my back.

I used to have a Lynn turntable I spent $3500 on and loved to listen to vinyl on. You listen to CD's for quick music and vinyl for real music.

Wish I would of known, was on a throwing out mood and my neighbours had a field day at the front of my house going through them all. Sorry, Tom.

I'm assuming you mean a Linn turntable. Makers of the timeless LP-12. Just like "normal" golfers don't see the need to spend 1K on a Cameron, normal music lovers don't understand the lure of an audiophile turntable. Technics DD tables are bulletproof and easy to setup but audiophile tables they aren't. They have great motors which make them perfect as DJ tables but I've never seen one in a true audiophile rig.

BTW, my dream TT is the Thorens Reference circa 1979. If you can find one of the 100 made it'll set you back at least 100K.

Oh and in case nobody is paying attention, vacuum tubes are also making a huge comeback. :)

Yes, sorry for the spelling, not known for my spelling.

Also had the Linn amps but sold those also and just have my Rotels left. The Linn was one of the best turntables I had the pleasure of listening to.

My buddy in Sudbury was a Linn agent and we spent many an afternoon in the studio listening to some old classics on the Ttable.:)

Linns were lovely but a PITA to keep in balance and isolated.

Another great 'table. The Goldmund pictured weighed a scant 350 lbs and cost a pittance....only $25,000 U.S. at the time, plus cartridge of course.
