View Full Version : Just missed a Double Eagle

Playing with my son on Friday evening. 495 yard par 5. He hits driver and mid iron. We see the ball land on the green and then disappears near the flag stick.
He is getting pretty excited as we walk faster to the hole. On the side of the green is a maple tree casting a shadow on a small portion of the green. When we get close we see the ball about a foot from the pin. Darn, a double eagle would of been real nice. Not too many guys in the clubhouse, so it wouldn't of cost too much to buy a round.
Wouldn't if of been nice to score a double eagle before his first hole-in-one?
Maybe next time he will get a little luckier ...
Thanks Harry S

That'd definitely be cool. Although better to call it an Albatross than a double-eagle. The former sounds much better than the latter. ;)

bogey is +1 and double-bogey is +2 and triple-bogey is +3, OK, OK ... so ....
eagle is -2 therefore it is common-sense that double-eagle is -4. Right? :confused:
Nonetheless, nearly holing out on 2nd shot on a Par5 is amazing!
(I'm assuming this chapter ended up as a tap-in, 1-ft, eagle!)

You should never assume :hush: Well, in this case, since TourIQ's son is the next coming of Tiger Woods, I think that's a safe assumption. :rolleyes:

man, this just reminds me of what Karen Stupples did at LPGA British Open a year ago final round....
went Eagle, Double Eagle....so -5 in two holes *shock*..and then went on to win the major...crazy

using this logic, wouldn't it be a triple-birdie? :D

no, because it is -4 .. so it'd be a "quadruple-birdie" ...
eagle = -2
double eagle = 2 x eagle = -4
birdie = -1
quadruple birdie = 4 x birdie = -4 also!

my ridiculous point was birdie -1 double-birdie -2 and triple-birdie -3. i'll buy drinks if you card a quadruple-birdie

Wow, that's impressive, how would one hold on to a moment like that?
Which course and how old is your son?

hmmm... let's see ...
Bogey [+1] to Double Bogey [+2] has a difference of 1
Eagle [-2] to Double Eagle [-3] has a difference of 1
Yes it was a tap in Eagle of 1 foot duration.

Wingham Golf and Curling Club, Wingham, ON, Canada [9-hole track]
My son is 22 years old and entering 4th year at WLU [Honours Business Adm.].
Last year this time, he shot a course record '64' with '30' on the front 9.
The course is 54-years old. Previous record was a '65 for 18' and '31 for 9'.
His ball striking ability soared after he had a 2.5 hour coaching session 2 years ago with Rob Akins from TN, USA. Mr. Akins is the swing coach to David Toms.
This year he shot a 65 over 18 and a 30 for 9. Our greens were in terrible shape for most of the season. He is a good ball striker tee-2-green, but needs to work on his short game (in particular his putting).
Thanks Harry S
