I'm thinking I almost have any money to return to Canada and endure the constant schtupping by Revenue Canada. Anyone know what an equity share for Deer Ridge runs these days? Annual dues? How about Westmount? I know it'd likely be a several year wait and a lot of begging to get in, but I'm just curious. Anything ballpark would be appreciated.

At DR, you can figure about $50k plus annual of about 5K, plus bar and food minimums, plus gratutuities...
Leasing is usually an option and a good way to see if you'd like it.
Don't know anything about Westmount, myself.

don't know about Deer Ridge, but if you live in the KW area, have a look at Galt CC. In my opinion, one of the best secrets in Southern Ontario....

Galt is a bit of a gamble, IMO. They seem to get hit hard during Spring thaw, every now and then. When the Grand rises, a number of holes get flooded pretty bad.
This being said, I've never played it and have heard good things about it. Also have heard that it's a tight course and you don't really need driver out there (or maybe it was said as "it's tight, so leave the driver at home" - or something like that)

Galt CC ain't worth having a membership at unless your 60 years old or can't drive the ball out of your own 2pm shadow.
Westmount has a similarly ancient membership and its not an equity track anyway. I've never played the course but I heard its good ... years ago.
Deer Ridge is Awesome! Plenty of length to challenge anyone and conditions are perfect. Membership has lots of great players to take your cash.
Consider Brantford G & C C. Much cheaper and still easily a top 50 course in Ontario. They groom great players there ( David Hearn , PGA Tour member) and its conditioning is second to none.

If I had the cashola available, it would be a tough choice between Deer Ridge and Westmount.
I've found Westmount to be a lot more exclusive, so you may have better luck trying to obtain a Deer Ridge membership. Rumour has it that when the Toyota plant in Cambridge was built, the executives tried to BUY their way through the waiting list at Westmount and were declined. :nono:

Finally someone who has heard of Westmount. I have three shirts from the place, but have never played there. My mom's friends son use to be the pro there (and still might be). He brought the left over stock out every winter.

I was in the Wesmount area a couple of years ago and decided to check out Westmount. You say its exclusive. I couldn't find the entrance gate to drive in  . I was driving around the block in circles. Never did find the place.
The executive I work for said Westmount was the 2nd nicest place he had golfed. My son has played Deer Ridge > real nice track with a ton of good players.

Harry,
The entrance is quite tricky to find... one would expect it to be off of Glasgow Street or Westmount Road, but it's actually off of one of the little sidestreets in the Old Westmount "subdivision" of Kitchener. (Inverness Drive, if memory serves me)
My mom is friends with a member there, but alas, i've never had the opportunity to play the course. Maybe someday. :)

Hi Section31
I was down the subdivision / little sidestreet too. It sure is exclusive. I was in front of the homes with the course behind it. Never did find the gate to get in.
Thanks Harry S

Actually, they did a lot of work on those holes the past year. Completely redesigned 15, 16, 17 the ones affected by the flooding. They raised the fairways and the water can now flow through a man made stream. A much better design that should alleviate most of those problems.
And no it is not a bomber's course, but it's >6500 yds from the tips which is decent. It's got small fast greens and lots of big trees to get in your way. I hit a driver 250-270 and a 7 iron 165 and don't find the course short by an sense. You use every club in the bag and actually have to think a fair bit.
It's also very walkable, which is nice.
It also won't require a 2nd mortgage like DR or Westmount
