I hoping this new golf movie is better than "The Legend of Bobby Jones" movie, I found that movie a bit too slow:

hmmm, not set in 'present-day'....at least it's more 'youth-oriented'

doubt it's gonna fare much better than the Bobby Jones movie, although it WILL get a Theatrical Release in Canada (Bobby Jones didn't despite the fact that it starred "Jesus" from "The Passion of the Christ" which at the time was RENTING very well!?)

Golf is popular with the segment of the population that play/watch it, and THAT segment is VERY LOYAL, but THAT segment is VERY SMALL compared to the Greater population, so, a Movie about Golf doesn't (usually) fare as well as movies about baseball, football, basketball, and even to a lesser extent, Hockey!

How many GREAT Tennis movies have been made? (Great as in REVENUE earned!?)

What is the highest-grossing Golf Movie?
Probably "Caddyshack", and that movie isn't really "about golf!"

That being said, I'll go see it :)
(and I won't "wait 'til it comes on DVD!");)

little off topic but this might spark some discussion.
I think all golf movies are CRAP!!
and yes im including Tin Cup, Legend of bagger vance, Bobby Jones.

I think for a golf movie to catch the audience's attention, they need to incorporate the cut throat competition and intense pressures faced my real goflers i.e. President's Cup, Ryder Cup, Rivalry, clutch and realistic shot making.

so far, all the movies evolve around a golfer trying to gain respect, blah, blah, blah.

so will i see this movie, prolly NOT!!:nono:

I might rent it when it comes out on Disney DVD but would not invest my limited entertainment dollars paying full-price to catch this flick @ a cinema.

I wonder why Holleywood spends millions on making realistic outter space flicks and nothing on making a golf movie with guys that look like they could break 100.

Why not use real tour players (thinking minitour) and spend a few bucks teaching them to act. Sheesh, acting like a golfer cant be tough for a golfer.

I am completely certain that I will not go. I only go to the movies about three times a year, and there is no way I'll get my wife to see a golf movie.

I love all of the golf movies. No brainer entertainment. Bring on the fromage!

Of course, I'll wait for them to air on TMN before I see them. Definitely won't pay top dollar at a theatre to see it.

I saw the ad for this movie and told my wife I might like to go see it. She asked who it was about and I said Francis Ouimet. Of course she did not know who he was! I explained how he won the US Open in 1913 and beat two of the best golfers to do it. He was an unknown amateur and he came out on top.
That said, will I go? Well I am not a big fan of the movies, sitting for two hours at a time. But this one I might go see, as it is an actual true story. Visit the site below and maybe you will change your mind about this movie.

I went and saw the movie last night at the preview screening. All things considered it wasn't too bad. Typical disney stuff and typical disney plot line and happy ending. I couldn't help but wonder how much of it was the truth and how much was embellished to make the story into a Disney story.

Since I'm a golf nut I probably enjoyed it more than most people would. It was about two hours or just shy (we showed up a bit late so I don't know when it started exactly), yet it went quickly. Acting was done pretty well and the cinematography was a lot better than I had expected.

Is it a movie for grown adults? Not really. Is it a movie for little kids? Not really. It's one of those middle of the road Disney family movies.

These were my 2 cents.

DR. thanks for the review. Kinda expected that it would have a "Disney"-ending. :)

I just watched the trailer......looks like a sleeper movie to me.

What we need to do is organize a TGN outing like we did in Niagara and film that from start to finish...now THERE'S a movie worth watching :D

If you want to actually watch golf, watch PGA on Sunday afternoon. This is a movie which you pay to watch the actors act out a story. That's why they hire actors pretending to golf instead of golfers pretending to act.

As for golf movies, I actually enjoyed Bagger Vance, Happy Gilmour and Caddyshack.

I assume I couldn't take the family to see that one. Just a hunch it would be R rated :hush:
