Has anyone had a chance to see this course near Ancaster? I'm hearing they were asking big bucks for a green fee, but have backed down a bit. The website doesn't appear to have any fee listed -- which I find a bit odd.
However, the course was created by an associate from Nicklaus design, so I expect a degree of quality.

I've heard of this course as I don't live that far from it. I've yet to see it but I may not see it unless the rates drop a bunch. I heard something like $125 bones for one round. On a brand new course ? Not this cat.

I drove up to take a look. I was impressed with the holes that I could see.

Conditions seemed pretty good considering it just recently opened although I didn't walk on any holes to check closely.

Green Fee is $125 plus tax but includes replay round(s) if course is not busy, which it the case at this time.

I am hoping to play there next week. If I do I will post a report.

Yes, Cart and Range. I think total after tax is $134

Clubhouse is a trailer, so it appears there is no food/beverage service.

I played it for the launch of the SQ with Nike. They have cars sets up arond the course with pop and juice as well as some snack food. It will be a decent course, has some good holes and some not so good holes. Well worth the $125 right now though, esp with replay privliges. Bring cash though as they do not have debit set up in the shop. Thye have a nice range and academy set up as well

Did you happen to ask if they intend to offer memberships, Jeffy?

From what I understand they will be offering them yes. I am uncertain as to pricing of this though as I did not get into that kind of conversation with them at the time. I was more excited about hitting the SQ and new Nike stuff.

Also, I am in the midst of setting up a SQ fitting day wwith the launch monitor. Keep your eyes posted.

When I was there they gave me a sheet outlining their packages.

Best price per round was the 100 tickets for $9,000. Tickets are transferable and good for 2005/6. (50 tickets were $5,000).

It doesn't appear that they are offering memberships at this time.

Jeff, how do you think it compares to Angus Glen?

I would still prefer both the North and South courses over this course. It has some very good holes, but not enough to keep me coming back. I know that my opinion may seem a little biased but it may change after I play the course again. It is a good layout but I feel they could have the land a little better as it is one heck of a good piece of real estate. Give it another year to grow in and it will be a good golf course. As with most new tracks it still has yet to build its club house and I cannot wait to see the design of it as I love the idea of the course name and tee names as well as the look of bag tag.

Thanks guys. I've been invited to come and play it, but I have a number of great invites at the moment and have to pick and choose. Sounds like this one might be worth the drive to Ancaster. I'll report back on what I saw.

Jeff Well I played the course, 45 holes, and I agree with your assessment.

Property is outstanding, but I think the designer did a poor job. Sure there may be enviromental considerations about using the wetland areas, but I don't think that the true potential of the land was utilized.

I found it similar to the higher end Kaneff courses (Lionhead, Royal Niagara etc.) where there are some good holes and a lot of relatively plain holes.

I think the designer tried to add features to holes without thinking about the playabillity. It appears he wanted to make it a shotmakers course off the tee where every hole demands some sort of left to right or right to left ball flight to end up in ideal position. On some holes 270-285 yd drive with straight ball flight would not end up in a good position.

I found the risk/reward factor was too extreme in many cases. There seemed too be too much risk involved if you wanted to challenge a hole and that forced you to take the safe route which meant that there really was only one way to play the hole.

Osprey Valley Hoot is one of my favourite course because of the risk/reward factor on each tee shot. I think that Doug Carrick could have made a course on this property that would have been amongst the best in Ontario.

The practice facility however is outstanding, the best I have ever seen. Nike one black balls, good turf, practice greens/hole with bunkers at far end of range (about 100 yards in length but I am not sure if open to public right now). Also I believe they are opening up 3 practice holes that you can play prior to your round.

Staff were friendly and pleasant, but the lack of availablity of food was a problem particularly if you play more than one round.
