Impressive by VJ, but I should point out that cash purses are more than what they were in 2000 when Tiger held the money list record...:D
Also I was right about VJ just barely hanging on on the 3rd and 4th round....after a 64 & 68 in the first two, he had 72 and 69...

i agree with ego about breaking tiger's record but vj HAS been the best player for the last 2 years. the ranking/points system is very weird and doesn't accurately reflect who is the best player is.
maybe they should rate them based on a combo of different categories like lowest scores, GIRs, fairways hit, birdies, wins, etc.

I'm not too sure if trying to find the best player in the world can be accomplished by ranking an individual based on certain categories in golf....the best players are usually defined by simply their wins and their finishes in tournaments...that's almost a given in any sport....
just look at the US who was statistically much better than the Euros in the last Ryder Cup, yet given the Euros record over the last 10 years, I'm sure they're considered the favourites now.

Records are made to be broken!! True the winner's purses in 2000 were smaller than they are now but you can say the same that the purses in 2000 were much greater than they were in 1995!!! Vijay has won I believe 13-15 tournaments in the last two years. Yes, he has also entered the most tournaments too but so do a lot of other guys but you don't see then on top. Regardless, Vijay is being rewarded with his hard work and endless pursuit to keep his game on top, which he has. He is in great shape and swinging the club better than any point of his career. He's just doing it at age 43 or so and not 20 something like Tiger.

i have to agree with focker...in 2000 the purses were probably smaller, but I think it's more difficult to win a tournament today than 4 years ago since the popularity of golf has increased so much in recent years the competition and level of competitiveness has increased significantly also
