already read that Funk ruined Annika's chance to win a hole (she hit to 2 feet)...by sinking a birdie putt from 20 feet....then Annika took out funk's ball from the hole, and threw it into the nearby lake before she made her gimme put to concede the hole

Well Freddy Funk quaranteed himself a return trip to the Skins Game next year, after cleaning the table on Sunday.

Nothing personal against Annika, but she really didn't bring anything to the party. I know she is the #1 Lady golfer in the world but she just can not compete against the big hitters, even the medium hitters like Funk.

Now I would love to see a guy like Jason Gore invited if he has a good season in 2006. He would liven things up :D

I think its great to see how players that don't hit it as far compensate to compete. It certainly didn't hurt Funk.

After getting shut out 2 years in a row, I think Annika's invitation is pending on how she performs on the LPGA tour next year. If she performs strongly, she might get an invite back. Or else, it soulc be Creamer/Pressel/Wie.

I really appreciate Fred Funk faced the challenge head on, put on the skirt, and got it over with. He made light of and put to rest the embarassment of regular Joes being driven by women golfers.

Making the Eagle putt and winning it all is simply icing on the cake.

Other than the skirt incident (which was Funk's idea the way I understood it) what did Annika bring to the table? Sure she had birdie putts, she also got shutout two years straight.
As for the distance factor, she hit a fairway wood into one par 4 on Sunday, while short hitting Funk hit a 5 iron. Big difference in my opinion.
I would rather see someone who could come out and compete better, that is all I ask for when watching The Skins Game. I reealize Couples was shutout, was that the first time in his SKINS Career? Pretty sure it was, as he is the King of Skins.
Don't get me wrong, I like watching Annika play, against the women of the LPGA. No doubt she is the best woman golfer in the world right now. However it is like watching Wie once again fall short in trying to make the cut in a Men's tour event.
Like someone said, let's have a Women's Skins Event next year. Problem is I doubt any network would cover it, other than TGC maybe. So it just won't happen.
Now what would really make the Skins Game entertaining is this. Each of the 4 players drops $250,000 of THEIR MONEY on the table, then they go out and play!:D

I would have to agree with Golfbum to a certain extent. I just hated the fact that the "big issue" with the skins game was about when/if Annika could outdrive Fred Funk, one of the shortest hitters of the PGA (besides Pavin that is).

Dont get me wrong, I love watching the women play, but no Annika isnt my favourite. I like watching the "young guns". If they did have their own Skins Game I would certainly watch.....some names for candidates would be Paula Creamer, Grace Park, Michelle Wie, Morgan Pressel (when she starts her pro career), Annika Sorenstam (again not my fav, but the sponser would want her there), Natalie Gulbis (hate the show by the way), just to name a few.

I am one of the guys out there that believe that the women have a womens tour, so they should play there. Playing with the men on the PGA proves nothing except for the fact they (and I'm going to catch flak for this) get to have their cake and eat it too. As far as I'm concerned, its all about the "girl power" movement. Wie is still just a kid and I believe she is taking the wrong path to her professional career, I would just hate to see her burn out way too soon (ala Ty Tryon) by playing the men and continuing to miss cuts. It has to wear on a person.

Its going to be interesting to see what the R&A do about the women playing in the mens British Open. Even though he made a rediculous statement saying he wanted to play in the Women's British, he did make a valid point. The women were outraged at Augusta National for having an all mens club, they seen an opening to get women into mens events.....yet they have a specific clause to keep men out of their tour? My personal take is that these people are very hypocritical wanting it all.....and giving none. After all...doesnt the LPGA now consider themself a sexist group for banning all men on their tour?

Away from the ranting and raving, and take what I said as one persons personal opinion. Did anybody seem to think that Tiger was using a different driver on Sunday? It may have been me, but it looked like the shaft was shorter for one but I couldnt get a look at the driver head. Couples is STILL using the S2H2 3-wood...and from what I could tell.....Annika was using a Penly Caliente shaft in her driver......

All sports telecasts are aimed towards the general mass market. i.e. casual fans (read TV rating), not neccessary towards hardcore fans.
Annika and Wie are the two most well-known female golers at this moment, as long as they remain popular worldwide, they will keep being incented ($$$) to partake in the men's events.

Similarly, for people who continue to criticize ABC/NBC/CBS for showing Tiger Woods even when he is not in contention. That's because he draws people to their TVs. If the broadcasters do not show the popular players, there will be no rating, no advertisers, and golf programmings in general will be suffer (and we will end up watching re-runs of Shell Wonderful World of Golf).

My wildest dream is to have Hootie extend an invitation to Wie to the Masters, so that they can put the rest of Wie's goal to play in the Master.

......and there lay the catch 22. When they do offer exemptions to the ladies, most of the coverage is on the female golfer to see if she makes the cut so the people who want to watch the mens best in battle, get comentators drabbling over the woman trying to make the cut with countless speculations on what she has to do to make the cut "......birdie this one.....and that one.....and par the rest and we will see her this weekend, how great would that be!" Yadda yadda, some even purposely shange the channel to get rid of this. I for one am one of those people. If I want to watch a womans event (which I do), I'll tune in.

Sure the ratings go up when a woman (Annika or Wie) tries out on the mens tour, and its a shame the spnsors play on the spectical to get higher ratings. But I dont think that mens golf as a whole will suffer if the ladies arent there.

Personally, I think somebody should stand their ground on the issue, especially Hootie. Its an all male club (not to say that women can't play, they just don't have a membership), and I think it should be kept that way. Hootie did say that if Wie qualifies he will welcome her into the tournament.........but I guess time will tell..... It just drives me nuts that the "womens movement" tried to force a private club to change their prerequisites (aka the trouser snake), but yet, women all over the world have their private clubs, excercise facilities and whatnot.....

Love the idea of the players putting up their own money for the skins too......now theres pressure!
