So what does everyone think about Paul Casey and his comments about "hating" American's and them being "stupid"?. He's in some hot water right now and is actually a little concerned when he returns to the US to play full time on the PGA next year. He says his comments were taking out of context (which they were in some tabloids) and he's received nasty emails and calls. I also heard one of the wives of a fellow Tour player approached him and told him off. He even lost his sponsor with Titleist and his management company also ended contracts with him. Read about it here:

I personally think Casey's a nice guy and wouldn't or didn't mean to insult the American people. He lives in Arizona and went and played on their NCAA team. His girlfriend of three years is American. Tabloids always make things worse than they are and the media is also to blame as well. There's an interview with Casey on Thurs night on the Golf Channel at 730pm with Jennifer Tillman? (spelling?)

Yeah, I'm pretty positive it was taken way out of context when he was speaking with the media......darn media always has a way of skewing things.......it's just like saying I play basketball and this 7 foot guy blocks me.....and I say "I hate tall ppl!"....

He's in a very public position and should learn to keep his personal feelings personal. He's a young guy so perhaps this will teach him something. His management company should have made sure he had some media training to give him the ability to deal with them. Vijay learned after his comments on Annika to just talk about golf, I suspect Paul will no longer shoot from the lip either.

If you have ever viewed a press conference held before or during a major golf championship and listened to the kinds of questions reporters ask the players, it soon becomes apparent that they aren't the sharpest tacks in the box. When Paul Casey makes some comments about Americans, it is understandable that his words get taken out of context, or diliberately distorted, just for the purpose of sensationalizing the issue.

It has forced the players to avoid interviews or take the route that Tiger, VJ, or Annika, have taken, and that is to babble on and say nothing. "Yes, it was tough out there, today." "My swing is very close," or "Yah, I hit the ball well today and putted well, too."

I like the expression, "Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear."

I agree that press conferences and such get blown out of proportion and sports stars get misquoted. We can't believe everything we read in the papers.

So true. The number of people who think that of it was in the paper or on TV, it must be true.

Just compare the conservative and liberal newspapers, or TV networks, and you will see incredibly contrasting "interpretations" of events.
