Hi Golfer,

I saw a new toy at Golf Town called the Golf LaunchPad. This is a Golf Simulation tool that allow you to practice and play golf indoor and outdoor... I am curious to know if anyone has tried it.

You may take a look at the product at http://www.golflaunchpad.com

Thanks,

Teck.

Wow, never seen it before but after reading up on it, sounds pretty neat. Not sure how precise it is though. Still would prefer going to an indoor range though.

Golf Town doesn't have it for Demo yet. I email the the support for Golf LaunchPad... the response is as follow:
Yes the Launchpad is available at select Golf Town’s in the GTA area. These are the following stores: Woodbridge, Markham, Scarborough, Whitby, 2 in Mississauga, Toronto and Hamilton.

Still waiting for someone to buy it and give a review on this forum...

I live in a brand new condo with high ceilings but I'm still affraid to swing anything more than a PW inside. I mean, I'm 6'3", but that isn't that tall...If I could find a space where I could swing a driver indoors I'd buy this thing tomorrow. Anyone with first hand experience yet?

I'm a little late in coming across this thread ... but I have a Launchpad.

It's a fun thing to use. I would consider it more of a toy first and a training aid second, and probably a distant second.

You can get a free download that supposedly analyzes your swing. It does ... but all it really tells you is if your clubface is open or closed, and how open or closed it is. The flight of a ball will tell you that. It also tells you your clubhead speed, and how far you supposedly hit the ball.

Important note: it is not accurate. I have never, in my life, hit a ball 150+ yards with a 9-iron. Yet with the Launchpad, I do it on almost every shot (provided my clubface is square at impact). It also measures my clubhead speed at 120 mph and up, which does not seem right to me. However, as long as you don't take those numbers as accurate, you can gauge how changes in your swing are affecting your clubhead speed by comparing whether the speed goes up or down ... so there IS some value there.

It SEEMS fairly durable, and you can buy replacement parts. It's worth noting that you don't need the ball in place to use it -- you can swing at the air over the sensors and get the same on-screen results. You just don't make contact with anything. That's comforting to those of us who have visions of the tether breaking and the ball banging around the living room and through the front window and/or television set. I use the ball a lot ... but I check the tether frequently.

If you're going to get it, get it for the fun of playing the Tiger Woods EA game with an actual club instead of a mouse -- that's the joy of the Launchpad. But if you're looking for something that puts a driving range in your living room, you may find this a minor disappointment. Or to put it another way ... it won't make you a better golfer, but it will make the Tiger Woods game a far better game.

At $260 it's a bit pricier than it's worth, in my opinion, for what I get out of it. I'd be happy with it at $150. Those with money to burn may be fine with the price tag.

Thanks alot Golden Bear - that helped put things in perspective. There is a tiny spot in my new condo where the stairs go up to the next floor where I think I might have room to swing a driver. Food for thought anyway.

Sounds like good fun in the winter to swing the club and be Tiger... hmmm maybe my laptop in the garage with this will do. :)

Actually, if you wanted to take it and your laptop to the driving range, you could do that, too. The launchpad will work just as well if you put a real untethered ball on it. I'm not sure it would have much value as an information source ... as I said, the only thing it really tells you that the flight of the ball might not tell you is what your clubhead speed was (though again, I think it reads that inaccurately).

However, if you wanted to play Tiger Woods at the driving range ... you can do that. It might be a good opportunity to measure the accuracy of the device, actually. My guess is that it tacks roughly 30 yards onto every hit, but that's just a guess.

You should really consider Real World Golf, which is a game for the XBOX console. It is a miniature club that simulates you hands, swing speed, and swing path. I was very temted to buy it before I moved out of my place with an xbox. Has anyone tried this one? I know the graphics aren't the best, but the reviews online are surprisingly good.

I was reading Score Golf the other day and it mentioned real world golf - I think it said something about picking up bad habits pretty easily though...

FWIW, I have the gofl launchpad....it's a blast to play with, if your ceilings are high enough. Like the above poster said though, it's not entirely accurate. I'm an awful golfer, but the launchpad doesn't pick up on a lot of my flaws, so it's pretty enjoyable.

You don't need to hit driver. Since you chose the club in the game, you can play with an iron. You may not get the same reedings, but it should allow you to play in a tighter space.

I know I can play the entire round with a wedge - but it was my hopes to be able to swing more than just one club. If I were to use the launchpad I'd want to "use" it, and not limit myself to only hitting my wedge. Thanks for the suggestion though jmr73.
