I understand that Driver from the fairway is in the bag of tricks for the pros. I tried it a couple times for fun and surprisingly got it airborne, but pushed it way right.

I read somewhere that you need a way high swing speed to make it work. Is this at all a useful shot for mere mortals?

If you don't mind topping every second one, it's a good idea.

I use my driver to punch out from under trees. :$ It works really well. I can hit a 150 yard bump and run from under trees. You don't have to hit it hard at all, just a nice smooth half stroke will do.

Vijay's the best I've seen... Although my dad's a close second even though he has two fake hips.:D

The old TMs 320 and 360 were actually designed to play off the turf. I had an XS100 shaft and hit some momeentous shots with - 270 plus that no 3W could reach.
Had to play for a big time slice while protecting against the dreaded straight ball but it was a great tool to have in the bag - especially in scrambles.

If I have a good lie I'll give it a go with the 905R.

I used to be able to do this and hit a solid 230ish kinda draw with my old r580 but ive tried it with my new driver and its not happening

it might be something to do with the lofts (11* vs 9.5)

Funny thing; played Pipers with my friends driver which he used to hit off the deck and is now hitting it so bad he just gave it up. On 18 I tried it and smoked it, it's an old 9 degree Callaway Big Bertha.

I can't hit a 905R off the deck. But I can hit my Retro Raylor 16* about 250 off the deck. I figure thats good enough.

My son tried it on the range mat and promptly broke his Cobra X-Speed:rofl:

Face on the newer drivers makes it tough (center of gravity is a long way from the sole of the club).

also i think if your hitting it from the rough or fairway it might mess up the bottom of your club..i dont think the new drivers are designed for that
