Did anyone watch Stuart Appleby threepeat!?!

It was down to sudden death. VJ couldn't make the putt to continue the play off. Appleby made an awesome sand save and clutch putt to put it away. His daughter is soo cute.

I always watch the Sunday finish for this tournament every year. Even though Tiger wasn't playing this year. Someone even got a hole in one and walked away with a brand new benz!

The ESPN story on Appleby just before the finish was very touching. I was rooting for Vijay right up to that point. Nice to see Vijay come on so strong and drop some putts, but is was great to witness the three-peat.

Gotta love those sudden death playoffs.

Was a great finish. Hats off to VJ:cool:

To play in those conditions and be 8 under for the day is awsome. too bad it might be the last Mercedes Championships.:(

It really is odd feeling to see the pga season start up again in beginning of Jan...it felt like the season just ended.....great for the viewers to see golf almost all year round, but still odd.

Came down to VJ's biggest problem, putting from 6-8 feet. I think he was ranked 188th from that distance last year. Still an incredible round though to shoot 66 on such a tough course and conditions. His chipping and sand play was amazing too. Good for Appleby, nice guy, don't mind seeing him win a few. Funny how an analyst from GC last night said he would win a Major this year because of his play at the Mercedes. Yes, he won but he won without a full field. 28 guys and 4 of the top 5 weren't playing.

Yes...the Stuart Appleby story was pretty emotional. Good for him to rebuild his life. I too was voting for Vijay, but kind of felt guilty after hearing that strory. Anyway good for Stuart, he's a good player and deserves to win. Vijay looks good again, but putting looked a bit shaky. It also appears Sergio has not exercised his putting demons yet either. I like Sergio but am finding it harder and harder to support him with his inconsistent putting and his inability to compete outside of Europe. He is not a kid anymore and if he is going to live up to his potential he needs to secure his first major in 2006. I mean Sergio is what like 25-26 now, and still no majors? I don't think Sergio has enough competitve spirit to go to the next level. With all the money out there these days it's hard to compete at the next level, because your existence is not necessarily dependant on winning like it was in the past. He seems to be happy driving his Ferrari's and splitting his schecule between Europe and the States, and if that is what his goals are that's fine, but that type of attitude does not win majors.

Appleby is a great person, good athlete, has personality and is humble... I am glad he won and think he is ready to capture a Major. Watch him at the Open in Liverpool this year.

it was great! i agree that appleby made an awesome sand shot on the playoff hole but i'd say the 'clutch putt' would've been the one that forced the playoff hole ... not the three-footer for the win (which again was set up by the AWESOME sand shot .. THAT was 'clutch')

who'd thunk that Appleby-from-the-sand-with-little-green-to-work-with would win it over Singh-putting-from-the-fringe-from-where-he'd-putt-from-before?!?!?!

Yeah that's what I love about golf. It doesn't matter who has the better odds sometimes. It comes down to if your putter is with you or against you.

yeah, what a start to the season. hats off to Veej for coming on strong but just a tad short to win. however, congrats to stu; he played solid and like everyone was saying, he owns Kapalua. i felt bad for michael campbell stumbling in the end though. i must say i was quite surprised to see jason gore at the bottom of the list. never expected it.
