I got introduced to this forum by the most knowledgeable equipment dude I've ever had the pleasure to meet. Jeff rocks! And I'm glad I checked it out, cause you guys are one helpful bunch.
I started playing golf back in university..'93?? I still shoot in the mid-high 90's, but love tinkering with new equipment (it's like a sport all it's own.)
After 6 years, I've just now given up my Steelhead II driver for a Ti model... but no 460cc's for me - too darn big. Just replaced my Founders Club irons with 845's yesterday... looking forward to a little more forgiveness.
My buddies and I are planning a trip to South Carolina in March, so any tips you guys have to offer about courses, accomodations & driving routes, would be greatly appreciated.
Thx
Thomas

Welcome to the forum Wormburner :D
I'm not sure if you received our email ad today from Toronto Golf Nuts regarding Myrtle Beach golf packages, if not, here it is again:

Are you going to Myrtle or Hilton Head? If you are going to Hilton Head I can give you plenty of help there. My gf's family lives there and we go visit.

Early discussions suggest we're going to either Myrtle Beach or Santee. And due to cost considerations, we're driving. Anyone ever done that trek before? How long does it take?
And thx for all the welcomes.

The drive from Toronto to Myrtle Beach can be done in 16 hours. Just to let you know your Santee golf package may end up being $20-30 cheaper per golfer than a Myrtle Beach golf package, but when you're done your golf game in Santee, there is not much to do in Santee at night, no nightlife at all. On the other hand, Myrtle Beach has over 100 golf courses (regular, mid-premium and premium courses), lots of nightlife, the beach and hundreds of restaurants.

We were in MB November 2004 & 2005.
We drove to Buffalo, then flew from there.
We drove all the way in 2004. (Too much driving, for the other guys)
Courses we LOVE:
Pawley's Plantation *
King's North #
Prestwick
Caledonia Fish Club
Tidewater
Litchfield
The Witch
The Wizard (looks hokey, but much better than Man-O-War!)
* Our groups favourite for 2005
# Our groups favourite for 2004
also, check out Golf Digest (not sure which issue, sometime last summer July or Aug. I think), they had a list of the Top 50 in Myrtle Beach, and that's what we based our booking on last year, and we were Very Happy!!!

Thx Big Shooter... but tell me, honestly, how painful was the drive. I'll have 4 guys sharing the duties... is it tolerable? Unfortunately, flying is out of the question.

Wormburner,
Hafl the fun is getting somewhere.....it wou;dn't be cool if you could just teleport yourself to the location...it's the road trip, the bonding, going into a Denny's and being looked at strangely by a restaurant full of toothless wonders.
If you can't play left handed, at the very least, do a roadtrip. :p

Trip to South Carolina.
I've made that trip several times.
We found the route -
Toronto to Buffalo, then east on the interstate toward Rochester, Near Batavia, we cut south or go closer to Rochester then south to Corning, New York, Hook up with Hwy 15 south. takes you toward Washington DC and we felt it cut a few hours off the trip.
Hwy 15 is a great highway, very scenic. some small towns so you can stop and stretch. Some Perkins restaurants along the way. BEST pancakes ever!
One of your drivers may like to drive. But Switch drivers every 2 - 3 hours. So no one is overloaded and mesmerized by the highway lines.
Enjoy the trip!

I have driven it a few times from Miramichi ,N.B. It took 26 hours ,4 drivers straight through. 16 hours sounds like a piece of cake.. The drive down is not as bad as the return trip, but no matter how long it takes it will be worth it.
