I would like to hear some opinions on the drivers currently on sale at Sportschek (as per their flyer this week):
Featuring:
Nike Ti Driver 400cc $199 (regular price $399)
How good/bad is it? Worth the $199? or less?
Also available:
Wilson Fireball 450cc $59 (regular price $99)
Includes headcover and sleeve of balls

Both sound like good deals to me.
Hey Golf 4 Fun,
if you are looking at a driver, i suggest taking a look at the Cleveland driver (http://www.torontogolfnuts.com/showthread.php?t=454) in the B/S/T section, really good deal! and price dropped down to $300.

That's exactly what I was going to post. The Nike Ti IMO is junk. I hated it, but that's just me.

I'm a hater of most Wilson golf products.......just my own personal preference regarding that brand.....especially their crappy balls......as for the Nike Ti Driver, I would be weary of that, I didn't hear too many good reviews for that product and for $30 more from Sportchek, they're offering the TM Burner 420.....would rather get that.......
but nothing beats that Cleveland Launcher 460 selling for $300 (no taxes!!) on this forum......it's the newest driver by Cleveland, so ur getting their best driver they have out there right now....definitely worth considering....i saw that it was mentioned some on this post already too :D

As the 420 Burners...you can get those for cheaper than $240. Right now they can be had for around $150. IMO they're the best driver for that prive. You're getting all the Taylor Made R500 Series technology for cheap.

Laxgolf, this TM420 for $150 - It is new? used? in-store? or eBay?
Thx

Anywhere you can find them. They're kinda hard to come buy, but I saw a few this past golf season between $150 - $175. Try ebay. I bought mine as a demo. Switched out the POS shaft and wouldn't ever consider change drivers. It's like cheating.

I used to own a Nike Ti 350cc, it's a very nice driver, and I regret having got rid of it. It's one of the MOST underrated drivers out there, particular because Tiger stopped using it. For the most part, Tiger stopped using it because it was a driver built with specs more geared towards the general public, not for the pros (but we are not pros, thus why stop using it cuz Tiger doesn't anymore?). 199$ is a very good deal for Sportchek, however you can get for cheaper on Ebay, prob ~100$cdn.
The only downside for the Nike driver I can think of is it's sounds. This driver is not for you if you're looking for the loudest sounding drivers.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. The loudness (sound level) of a driver is not high on my priority list. I may not want to draw too much attention teeing off when my swing is still a work in (much need of) progress. :D

Golf 4 Fun, did you end up finding a driver to buy?
If you did not I would suggest looking here Golf Smith (http://www.golfsmith.com/cm/index.php?PHPSESSID=ec947bb22277a639c5212797183860 12) for the prices you are quoting here from Sportchek, you could get a higher quality product from them.
600T (http://www.golfsmith.com/cm/ppage.php?stynum=SE3661&cseq=~C284663&fcst=GSI_WEB&lcode=cm_284663_tn)is a awesome driver for the price. Remember those are American prices, and for the compotents only.
If you are interested in these products let me know. If you would like I can hook you up with someone.

I think the equipment you use in any sport depends on your skill level. Brand name doesnt really make a difference if your an noob. Like Alien said get some lessons first and see how you do. Dont go out spending a bundle of money on clubs because of what someone said. I've seen someone who had a driver they bought from Sears hit it farther than some guy who had a "brand name club". It's all about the skill level. FYI Wilson might not be as popular as the other golf equipment but hey if its good enough for Padraig Harrington its good enough for me!

How do you know he hasn't already gotten his lesson? Regardless, this individual wants to get a good product for a good price, it doesn't seem like he's out there to buy a $400+ driver anyways, so everyone here is trying to give him suggestions on decent drivers......

When thinking about new drivers, I would suggest you read this article about loft (http://www.golfsmith.com/cm/display_page.php?page_num=cm_loft&rn=N&lm=cm_blank&lcode=cm_loft_hp) from Golfsmith.

Good point, Ego Woods. That is exactly the purpose of my thread. I was not asking for an opinion whether my $199 is better spent on lessons to improve my game or to buy a new driver. I was only asking if anyone has any opinion on the particular Nike driver on sale, and whether the $199 is a good price for such a driver.
Also to Mikejb, thanks, I will keep your suggestion in mind.

Never liked the Wilson Fireball, too much flex in the shaft, mind you the huge head is something not to overlook. If you want to try a decent driver with a 440 cc head and a stiffer shaft, I recommend the Dunlop Loco Driver - $150 at Golf Town.

why buy retail....you can get those nike drivers for about $35-45 US on ebay and with their weak dollar its time we exploit the Americans (they have been golfing cheap up here for the past ten years).....that may sound a little bitter, but i want cheap golf ;)

Yeah, $35-45 on Ebay will buy you a less then wonderfully slapped together knock-off either blatantly labelled Nike or on close inspection labelled something like Nikee. Buyer beware! Why anyone would spend $199 on a Nike driver (or any other "brand name" for that matter) on sale at Sportcheck or throw away $35-45 (or C$45 - $60) on Ebay is completely beyond me. For me they would be great for staking some plants in my garden! (and don't get me wrong, I am far from an accomplished or scratch golfer, so therefore I do need the best tools available to me).
For approximately the same amount of money as the "sale" price at some sporting goods department store, you could go to a reputable professional golf fitter who will build you a stick that will suit you and your game to give you a chance to produce the results that you are looking for. Oh, I get it, it couldn't be any good because Tiger or Weirsy or Anika don't have the same label on their clubs! I just shake my head sometimes :cookoo: Okay, time to get off my soapbox now!

I used to have a similiar philosohpy. When i finally decided to leave canadian tire clubs behind about 7 years ago, i went to a reputable club fitter to have some clubs made. The clubs were okay, but somehow i hit 8-pw all about 140 yards. This made it difficult it difficult to score because i had nothing to hit all out from 140-160 or 100 -140. I finally replaced that set with some taylor mades and ever thing got much better. The lofts were actually correct on the irons. Last year i got a set of ping i3s (off of ebay) and have never played such a wonderful set of irons.
You might argue that i should have taken the component irons back, which i did try. However, as with most retail golf shops, the arrogant owners refuse to take any blame. I understand that it is a game where we hit our tools into the ground , but i dont swing hard enough to bend an 8 iron into a pw or vice versa. For the same price as retail component clubs you can get a lot of OEM equipment online (from ebay or this very fourm). You do have to be careful buying online, but check ebay ratings for reputable sellers. Just because its cheap, doesnt mean its fake. Retail golf clubs in the states are much cheaper, so it stands to reason that their used clubs will be cheaper as well. Time for me to get off my soapbox, although if you wish to retort, i'll keep the seat warm on mine.
