Do any of you listen to music on the course? I use to belong to a golf course and I would go out by my self after work at about 7pm and play maybe 7 or 8 holes and I would carry my mp3 player. i found it so relaxing. I would not think about my swing or my temp I would just go out and hit the ball. I also do it on the range. I also find that it helps me when I am playing in tournaments the littlest noise use to bother me when I was swinging but now I don't hear anything I just get up and swing.
I don't agree with people listening to music when they are playing with some one else. I knew a guy that listened to music in a optimist Jr. qualifying round an no one said anything. Is it legal?

Richard Zokal used to listen to music while he played on the PGA years ago. Fellow players called him Disco ****

Tried it a couple of times but found the earphones coming off distracting...oh, and the fact that a ball may be heading my way and don't hear someone call "fore!"

I have tried it once at the range, but I found the same as rockwalls, the headphones werent easy to keep on for any length of time. I was tempted to take along a small portable radio with speakers, but maybe only if I'm the only one playing.

I've used one at the range on many occasions. I find it relaxing and keeps me from thinking too much about my swing. I do however had problems with the headphones not staying in place so after a while it got annoying.
I don't think I'd ever wear one while playing. I'd rather ear someone yell "fore".

I would like to try this as well but I am pretty sure its illegal in tournaments. The message I posted below is directly from the GAO website regarding tournament rules. I still may try it on the range and see if it helps with my tempo.
As a condition of the competition, the use of cellular phones, electronic devices, noise-making pagers, radios, walkmans and any other similar electronic noise making devices will be prohibited during competition play. Clarifications and special requests regarding this condition should be directed to the GAO Rules Committee in advance.
Players in breach of this condition may be subject to disqualification.

I wear headphones at the range and I'll also hook up some portable speakers to my MP3 player and keep it in the cart basket when I ride. No one seems to mind.

You seem well on your way to a stellar career in the shade of Richard Zokol.

I've tried a few times with my iPod and have noticed that it keeps me in tempo. The Apple earbuds that come with any iPod seem to stay in well and don't move around too much. I usually play with other people, so taking it out on the course has never been necessary. I usually like to talk to playing partners instead.

I've used the Ipod on the range as well. It's nice; blocks out the screaming kids and rowdy teenagers.
In-ear buds don't work well if you're in motion. I've used the Ipod standard and Sony sound-isolating buds.
I recently picked up some Nike buds that have a swivel hook that goes over your ears. They are stable, and they're sweat resistant.

Listening to music on the course or at the range doesn't really appeal to me, as I find it distracting.
For those that do like it though, I could see a pair of Shure or Etymotic earplug type headphones being quite suitable as they fit pretty snug and won't fly out of your ears mid-swing. :D

I understand that this is from the GAO, but i played with a guy in the Canadians two years ago who asked an official, and was told that it was okay to wear them. Perhaps this ruling is new.
On the first post, i love listening to my iPod when on the range and will bring it out when i am playing by myself at night, but i usually only have one of the earphones in when on the course.

Tried it, but could not "multitask", enjoy the music and concentrate on golf. I'm a one track mind male :D

tried the sony's, they stayed on the ear, and the cord wasnt much of a bother, i had it tucked under my shirt. but from time to time, i needed to push them back into my ear (they have an in ear design which makes them sound great). overall, they were very nice. just need to keep my head more still :)

Music and golf...two of my favorite things....What kind of tunes would you listen to while golfing?? Hmm...maybe 'Swingtown', or 'enter sandman'. Lemme see....3 dressed up as a 9? Fly like an eagle?
Maybe there's a whole genre of golf music out there that I"m missing. If not, perhaps we should form a band and start composing some golf tunes.....or not.

I would think that calming music such as Bach organ music or even Mozart that would even out your brain waves. Come to think of it, maybe that environmental nature sounds like beach waves or a warbling brook might do the trick.
To play good golf you have to empty your mind and fly on auto-pilot .... nothing chaotic like rap or hip-hop .... and absolutely no scientific swing thoughts .....

How about a small blurb on repeat... "I am Tiger Woods... I am Tiger Woods..."
