Ok, let me know if this has been done recently, but I didn't see a thread, and figured after the 'what do you shoot' thread it was time for a goals thread :)
i.e. let's here Handicap Aspirations, specific improvments (i.e. shortgame improvment, keeping that driver in bounds etc), practice anyone?, tournies, # of rounds, stats if you keep them etc etc...
try to get your top 5 in there, and then at the end of the season we can all rag on each other when our optimistic winter aspirations have clearly fallen short :p

You should have started us off since you created the topic. :D
My goals:
1) break 80
2) get more GIR (I guess doing so might help me reach #1)
3) more shortgame practice
4) straighten out the 3wood ie. keep the ball in the fairway
5) see #1

Good point :)
here they are:
1. Get the cap down...currently about a 4.5, but with my swing changes over the winter I'm optimistic about a real drop :)
2. Putting, overall I'm pretty solid, but I sneak a 3 putt a round in on average. Would like to have that down to about 1 in 4 games on average.
3. Maintain a proper practice regiment. This means rotating through all aspects of the game.
4. Increase my GIR's from 175 and out...I need to stop giving away shots on longer par 3's, and I need to take advantage of short par 5's.
5. Work on pitch shots, last year i worked hard on 90-150yrd approaches, and my chips but failed to work on the 30-90yrd range.
6. Get rid of penalty strokes. This comes down to playing to my strengths as most of the trouble I get into comes from being stupid :P
7. Drop a couple LOW scores ;)

1. Play 170 rounds this year. :D
2. Another Hole In One (In a slump, last one was in June/03)
3. Win my flight in Club C (hard to to, gotta get past some solid players)
4. Have fun as always while playing golf with my friends or anyone else I meet this summer.
5. More eagles, and Aces!
6 Bring down my index. With that, GIR's should rise, short game should improve.
7. Win the LOTTERY (Guaranteed 170 rounds then  )

:thumbs_up every round of 18 on a championship course at better than bogey-golf.
like others have said, this should be attainable if i consistently avoid those one or two holes where the ugly snowman :thumbs_do shows up on the scorecard to ruin the day.

My goals are:
More Height on my shots
Easy enough, softer shafts will help you hit higher shots:)
More Weight of my belly...this will be the harder one!;)
Easy enough, Less food :) + More golf + walking while you play :D Weight will melt off.
Stay off the carts, the chips and the fried foods. I am here to help ya Big Shooter

I want to say thank you for this post. I have been so busy with work the other life issues and have forgotten to stop and think about what I want to accomplish out of my game this coming season. I think my 5 goals are to...
1. Try and get out at least once a week
2. Try and practice at least 3 times a week more so with the short game 50 yards down to putting
3. Get more consistency off the tee less wayward drives
4. Improve on my GIR's
5. Believe in my swing. Last year I feel I suffered more then I should have because I just didn't trust my swing all the time.
Well Those are my goals. I think I am going to print them out and stick them on my wall the remind me to try and do these things.

Easy, eh?
It's not so much the Chips + fried food, but starches & dairy!:(
p.s., what does an 'Adlia' shaft look like!? (typo!):nono: :p
and what happened to your "Go Sharks" signature?!

Hey Thanks for pointing out the one mistake I have made so far this year, in the spelling of Aldila:) You are a good man :D
I know all about the starches. Tough to not eat potatoes and bread isn't it?
The change in the signature? That comes with it being close to golf season. Like I told you before, once the courses open around here hockey is a thing of the past! It is time to get out of the house and go enjoy the outdoors. :)
Go Aki Berg? Go where? Surely you do not want him coming back to Toronto! (Is Pat Quinn allowed back?):D

Golf goals this yr? :
1. Distance Driver Improvement - for a big guy (over 6ft 1, 228 lbs) I don't think $200-230 is normal.
2. Continue last yr - finally, finally, finally broke 80! Then did it 4 more times, including a 77! Funny once you break a barrier it becomes easier.
3. Enjoyment- Continue my attitude improvement. Used to be so serious about improving that I missed the point of having fun.
4. Career- Thoroughly enjoy ever aspect of golf from playing, group tourneys, pro shop etc etc. See if I can transfer my skillsets into the field I love, and thus enjoying 'work' more.

It's funny I found that too about the breaking 80 when I first started. Once I did it somehow it becomes that much easier.

3. Break the century mark
4. Break the century mark on a consistant basis

6. Get out and meet new people who share my passion (found this site and hopefully will meet you all at Copetown)
7. Sharpen my mental game on the course
8. Have fun, live life, play golf. :D

and your 'second' mistake this year....a "Tracey" putter?
Is that a Paul Tracey knock-off?;)

Curious? Mine came in the latter part of last season. How long ago in yrs was it for you? and did you find difficulty maintaining that goal the following season?

Funny you guys bring this up... I remember trying to break 80, and being the king of the double bogey 17, double bogey 18 for an 81 :P
Once I broke it, the monkey was off my back and I didn't even notice anymore :)

Go to the range at least every other week during the season (domes are too expensive for me to go that often in the winter)
Break 120 consistently this season :p
Make time to play at least 5 full rounds this year.

1. Get my gf to buy me a new set of irons for my bday.
2. Work on my short game more at the range instead of irons and driver.
3. Pitching from 80 yrds in.
4. Reduce my 3 putting to 1/round.
5. Win the lottery so I can get a new set of irons and gf! :hush: :help:

1. Enjoy the game - I'm looking forward to playing as many TGN outings as I can.
2. I'm going to give myself a few months if not the whole season, to adapt to golf here in Canada, having played all my life on Scottish Links, so the scores could be on the wrong side of 80 at least to begin with... or even 90 on a bad day!
3. Accept the bad shots - I'm going to laugh at them!
4. Savour the good shots.
5. Enjoy the game - even on bad days it's still better than working! :D

I am just trying to keep mine simple this year, in the past I have tried to do too much too quick and all it has done is set me back....
1) Improve my putting (get rid of those nasty 3 putts)
2) Improve GIR from 170-140 yds
Hopefully concentrating on these goals, will give me a little consistency in my game...

My goals this year are:
-Less than 32 putts per round (I really want less than 30....one step at a time)
-12 of 18 greens in regulation
- 10 of 14 fairways hit
-Up and down 50% of the time
- Make the cuts for qualifying in the GAO events I'm playing in.
If I can do this and work hard on my short game around the green I feel I can get my handicap lower than what it is right now, which is what everyone wants.

My 5 goals this year:
1) Play more golf
2) Hit consistent shots - driver or iron
3) Stop watching irrelevent golf tournaments on weekend afternoons
4) Improve my flexibility
5) Stick to my gears instead of buying new equipments (of course, this is after I replace my driver, my irons, my putter, and possibly my wedges)

Hey BH.....good points on # 3 & 4. 5 was funny! I started working hard on my flexibility about 3 years ago as I knew it was important as I approached 40. I had been working out consistenetly for about 10 years but had done just basic stretching. Over the last 3 years I have worked hard on flexibility and also cardio and believe me it works....I feel like I'm 25 again. I can walk 27-36 holes carrying and I don't get tired and my back doesn't hurt. If I only had an hour a day to dedicate to exercise pertaining to golf, I would stretch 30 minutes, do push ups and do cardio for 20 minutes. You will be so glad you did!!
