Nice...they should've offered it at a better price point though. You don't just waltz into the market and demand ProV1 pricing!

If you're competing with those two other companies than I think you do. Got to show you're a good ball right off the bat. If you start at a low price, then hike it up due to its popularity, it will look like you're price gauging.
Couples, Appleby and Price are using them now so I guess they're pretty good.

Hmm in your opinion do you think they will do well? I think I would stick to the companies that specialize in golf equipment and technology. I personally wouldn't buy Bridgestone balls unless I hear rave reviews by someone else that has tried it.

I obviously haven't played them (as I mentioned before, I play Titelist and I don't play high end balls) but I do know that they have pretty good visibility on the Tour, Freddy Couples amongst others has played them for a while and he just signed an endorsement deal with Bridgestone (although I must be very emphatic in saying that endorsements and whatever tour player have in their bag means absolutely SQUAT to me). But FWIW, they have had positve reviews on other forums.

I don't understand why it's a suprise, Precept golf balls have been around for years and Precept is owned by Bridgestone. Bridgestone is a big name in golf in Japan and has been for years.

2 Things
How could any of this be surprising? Bridgestone makes tires (one of many products they produce) And golf balls main component is rubber. Why not try and make golf balls and get in on the margins.
I look forward to a review and comparison of the product in the new year, and I will definitly try them out.

Just surprising to me cause when I hear Bridgestone, I automatically think "tires" not golf balls. Didn't know Precept was owned by Bridgestone and nor did I know Bridgestone was a big golf name in Japan.
If the balls say they're as good as they market them, then I think they're ok. Just because Couples, Applyby are using them doesn't mean anything. They might be just on an endorsement deal. Doesn't mean they have to use them all the time.

I didn't know this either about Precept being owned by Bridgestone. But I don't think Precept balls are any good. I've tried them and they don't feel like good quality to me. I guess you get what you pay for.

The Precept Lady and Laddie golf balls are very highly rated as are the U-Tri Tour series and the new PWRDrive ball.

They might be highly rated. *shrug* But I've only tried the Precept Lady. I don't like the feel of it at all and I find that it bounces funny.

http://www.pga.com/equipment/equipment-showcase/bridgestone122004.cfmAre you fairly new to the game? Bridgestone (Precept branding) has been making Tour quality balls since the early 1990's. When Nick Price had his reign as the world's number one ranked player, he played the original Precept Extra Spin while Faldo used the Rextar, a wound ball, during the same era.
The Precept balls have been top level in Japan and Australia for at least 15 years.

Been avidly playing for about 3 years but never followed who made what and who owned which company. Heard of Precept but never knew Bridgestone owned Precept. I guess when I hear Bridgeston, I think "tires", not Precept golf balls.

Don't laugh...Bridgestone make some of the best golf products in the world. I haven't had the chance to try out any of the different golf balls they have, but I'm sure they'll be solid. I've hit their irons and woods and was more than impressed by both. Bridgestone tried to come to the US under the Precept name, but wasn't very successful. They're using a different strategy this time around and I think it'll work.
As an aside...Srixon makes some of the best golf balls on the market, yet not many people know about them or have tried them. I found a Srixon AD333 last year and put into play on the very next hole. I was so impressed by the ball that on the way home I stopped off at Golftown and bought a dozen. At the time, I found that the best ball for me was the Precept Lady but was looking for more a little more distance off the tee. Despite the lack of distance, I loved how the Lady felt around the greens so I kept using it with success. The Srixon AD333 had the 25 more yards I was looking for off the tee, but still had the same feel around the green. Look for Bridgestone and Srixon to have a bigger presence on tour in 2005.

Btw, Bridgestone/Precept also manufactures all the Nike balls to Nike's specifications. :D

Bridgestone is for years already one of the biggest player's in golf. As others stated Precept and Tourstage which is the upscale brand to Precept belong to Bridgestone. Ergo all those balls are made by them. Including the Nike's proprietery design of balls.
