I want to know if anyone has played golf in the Phoenix area in Arizona? Do you know which courses are highly recommended? I am looking into the Scottsdale Link Resort, which is next to the TPC Desert Golf Course. (I know that the TPC Stadium is where they have the Phoenix Open. But the TPC Desert is the shorter course and only $56 during high season ($50 for Arizona residents) And I've been told that there are more than 100 championship courses within a 30-minute drive of Scottsdale Links Resort. I don't think I can go during the 2005 FBR Open since that is in less than 2 months but is it worth it to golf in Arizona? :help:

Although this is not in Phoenex, but is in Tuscon Arizona. I was there for a research conference and did not play a round. It was certanly very beautiful though, thought I'd share some pics.

http://www.tucsonnational.com/

This was where the Tuscon Open was held. Maybe I stayed in the same room as Tiger Wood once did!!!:D

I did get a chance to hit the range, which was free! and comes with free powercart as well! even though the range was literally 30 seconds away from the club house.

Hello jsunsun! Thanks for sharing your pictures with us. They look very professional. I hope when I go on my golf trip I will be able to take such nice pictures as yours. It is soo cool to play next to a desert with cactus instead of trees lining the fairway! I haven't decided if Phoenix is better or Tuscon. But I think there are more resorts in Phoenix based on my web research so far.

Thanks jsunsun. According to this website I think there are more top rated courses in Scottsdale, Arizona than in Phoenix. I guess I'll have to do some more research before I decide. I don't plan on going until the summer so I still have lots of time.

I don't plan on going until the summer so I still have lots of time.If your not going to Arizona until the summer you'll want to pick a course with lots of trees. 110 degrees is not uncommon at that time of years.

I was in Scottsdale a couple of summers ago and stayed at the Scottsdale Princess. Here are a couple of Courses you should check out: the first one is Sunridge Canyon. It is one of the most beautiful courses so make sure you take a camera with you. Another one is Grayhawk, I think it was the Raptor course that I played. And Troon was another nice course.

I also played the TPC stadium course which is nice to say that you've played but it was not as beautiful as the others. All courses make you take a cart in the summer and most have coolers or will let you take a small cooler with you.

And always check out the cactus by the tee off boxes - they will always be full of golf balls.

I have pictures of the above courses so I will try to post them at some point.

So, you're going to Arizona huh? Well, so am I. I'm going in March. I've got my flight and hotel booked and now I, like you, am trying to find some places to play. Here's are some web sites of golf courses that look interesting.

I've also found several web sites that have reviewed some courses.

scottsdale is next door to phoenix
more like a suburb ala toronto/mississauga
phoenix being the original city

scottsdale is just wall to wall golf courses
mostly along scottsdale road

in the summer, green fees will be cheap
also consider the muni/public courses like mc cormick
or university of az, etc

I think I've found two courses that I want to golf at in March.

1) Sunridge Canyon Golf Club. http://www.sunridgegolf.com/ (http://www.sunridgegolf.com/)

2) The Golf Club at Eagle Mountain. http://www.eaglemtn.com/ (http://www.eaglemtn.com/)

I've also found a good site to check out some courses.

Sunridge Canyon is an amazing course. I loved it and if I ever go back, it will be one of the courses I play. Watch out for wild life though. When we played the course, we played it with a guy who lived in the area and said that the day before one of the greens had a rattle snake sitting on it! Just wait unti you see the 17th hole.....it was so much fun!

Grayhawk is also a nice course, I played the Raptor course. Troon was nice too, some beautiful homes line the fairways.

I figured that if I'm going to Scottsdale to play golf, I'd like to play some different or unique courses. As a result, I've decided to golf at the following courses.

http://www.sunridgegolf.com/
http://www.eaglemtn.com/
http://www.sanctuarygolf.com/index.html
http://www.gcgr.com/dino.htm

As far as the last one goes, it's called Gold Canyon Golf Resort and the web site doesn't do it justice, so, here are two web sites to help describe it, one with pictures of the course and the other one a review of it.

http://www.golfcoursepics.com/southwest/southwest.html
http://www.golfguideweb.com/arizona/goldcanyon/d.html

What do you think?

Sunridge is a great course....here are a couple of pictures from the course.

This is the 14th hole - me at the tee box! Nice little par 3!

The second pciture is the signature hole the 17th par 3. The picture doesn't do it justice. Its tee box and green and then valley inbetween....

I'm jealous that you are playing this course!

Here is another cool course in Arizona...troon North. The homes on this course are amazing!

Enjoy!

The Cactus with all the balls in it can be seen all over courses in Arizona.

The house is one that they were building when I was there. It is huge! I couldn't believe that it was one house!

Hey, I just noticed that you're a fellow lefty. It's tough finding lefties on this site. It seems that everytime someone is selling something, it's always a right handed club. We lefties have to stick together.

We were there the summer of 2002. We stayed at the Scottsdale Princess and had a great time. We had to tee off pretty early because it would be too hot to be in the sun for too long. Thankfully carts were provided at all courses.

Well, there's no backing out now. I just made the final golf reservation for my Scottsdale trip. Unfortunately, I won't be playing Sunridge, but I will be playing:

1) Eagle Mountain: http://www.eaglemtn.com/
2) Sancuary at Westwood: http://www.sanctuarygolf.com/index.html
3) Gold Canyon Golf Resort: http://www.gcgr.com/dino.htm

Can't wait until March 8th.

Unfortunately, I had to postpone my Scottsdale trip. I will now be going for 10 days instead of 7 days and I'll be going on June 18 - June 28. It also looks like my golf courses have changed as well. I'll be golfing at:

1) Eagle Mountain: http://www.eaglemtn.com/ (http://www.eaglemtn.com/)
2) Sunridge Canyon: http://www.suncorgolf.com/SunRidge.asp
3) Gold Canyon Golf Resort: http://www.gcgr.com/dino.htm (http://www.gcgr.com/dino.htm)
4) TPC Scottsdale: http://www.tpc.com/daily/scottsdale/stadium_01.html

The TPC has a deal to play 36 holes of golf. You get to play both the Desert and Stadium courses and get lunch as well for only $85.

You'll love Sunridge Canyon. Take a camera along because it is beautiful. One of the gentlemen we played with has a house overlooking one of the holes. It was amazing! Lots of wildlife along the course too!The TPC was a fun course to play just to say you've played it but overall it wasn't one of my fav courses.
The other 2 I haven't played so I can't give you a rundown on them!

I've stayed and played out there, lots and lots of wildlife out there.
The Sidewinder 18 is the original course and Dinasour has some awesome views, especially if you play later in the day.. sunset etc..
One thing you'll really appreciate about it is that you will truely feel like you're golfing in the desert.
Gold Canyon's about 45 minutes east of Phoenix on 60. Just look for the Walgreens at the traffic light (Kings Ranch Road) where you'll turn left into the Gold Canyon entrance road. The resort is about .5 miles down on your left hand side.

Since it appears that you're playing TPC at Scottsdale, don't be fooled by the relatively easy first couple of holes.. it does get harder as you go.

Troon North is another must play if you're down there.

Two questions:

1) Which course at Troon, the Monument Course or the Pinnacle Course? and

2) Which is better, Sunridge or Troon North?

Thanks.

I played Troon North and for the life of me I can't remember which one I played. I can look it up when I get home.

For Interesting courses, I liked Sunridge better. It was a nice course. The 17th hole was a lot of fun (You'll see what I mean if you play it).

Well, the time has come to go to Scottsdale :) . I am flying on Saturday June 18 and I'l be playing:

1) Sanctuary at Westwood (with my 10 year old son)
2) Sunridge Canyon (with my 10 year old son)
3) Troon North - Pinnacle Course (by myself)

I had to cut it down to 3 courses, so I choose these three. I'll be taking lots of pictures, so I'll post them when I get back.

Have a great trip!

(yes, with the 'clown' outfit!!:D )When I was in Scottsdale, I tried to play at courses that you can't play here, like the desert courses. I'm going again in June, so I'll be playing Sunridge Canyon and Troon North again( because they were great courses) as well as We-Ko-Pa, Gold Canyon Golf Resort and The Golf Club at Eagle Mountain.
